The price for making custom companions is ridiculous at higher level. I imagine they will nerf that in the future. There is really no reason to set it that high.
really doesn't seem that high to me
what else are you guys spending your gold on? The only thing to buy is build points.

I'm level 7 and I can't afford to build a 6 man party using custom companions.

I only has around 25000 gold at the moment. Probably because I buy too much equipment and trinkets from the vendors.
It is probably set high to encourage you to use the premade ones. That is what I would do. Only the most hardcore veterans would try it with the self-made tricked out ponies and gimped equipment.

Anyone get through the Lonely Barrow dungeon? In the sub-level there's an energy field that when you approach tells you to go find the key at the shore of a lake between two rivers (or something like that). I figured it meant Lake Silverstep Village since it's exactly as previously described but I haven't been able to find anything there.

Candlemere island !?

Nope. If you find the place then please share.

Custom NPCs are priced by your level so get em early or not at all
Yeah, something is definitely crazy about that. At lvl 5, they're 12500gp. At lvl 1 or 2, they're 500gp.

I don't even want to imagine how much it'll be at lvl ~10.
Formula seems to be 500 * n^2 where n is the PC level. Curious to know if delaying all level ups till Oleg's lets you recruit 4 level 1 characters for 2000gp instead of 1 level 2 character for 2000 even if your total experience means you could go ahead and level.
can you recruit a level 1 character when you are 5th level for 2000? Or is the cost based on your current characters level?
Just replayed the starting dungeon and Oleg's trading post without ever hitting the level up + ... cost of new recruits is dependent on MC level, not on MC total experience, so you can purchase companions for 500 at level 1 and then immediately promote to level 2. It is also not dependent on your companion's level, so if you promote them to level 2, but leave your MC at level 1, all new hires are still only 500 gp.

Gonna quote my link in case anyone missed it

Also, I wanted to make my main character a Crowd Control speciliazed wizard or sorc. Anyone have suggestions? I was thinking maybe a Enchantment-spec'd Thassilonian Specialist. Someone mentioned Fey-bloodline Sorc had a +2 DC for compulsion-skills, but I dont see anything for that in the game.

So, heard what people who already did 90 hours in game - in last chapters game is pure bugfest - NPC that stuck in NPC that not react, broken quests increasing in arithmetic progression.
So take your time and explore previous chapters and don't fear to restart.

It looks like the random encounters are linked to the areas. First area will always have the weakest random encounters and so on.

Wizards tend to have the broadest control abilities thanks to the different spells they can take as required. That said, in a cRPG, my bet is always on sorcerers for the simple reason that most of the spells are not in the game in the first place.

For God type casters, enchantment is not where the key spells are. Conjuration and transmutation tend to give a better bang for buck. Of course, they took out Grease, the premier level 1 CC spell, so your mileage in the game may vary. Go do a search for God wizards in a search engine and see what pops up.

I'm almost lvl 10 in chapter 4 (I think). I only want to say one thing: the story gets better. Holy Shit! :)

B3F54DDAAA9DE0B6388DB25A44D1280546024ABB
That's still chapter 2.

Not if you count the start new chapter screens :)
I assume we're supposed to go based on the source material when referring to chapters
http://pathfinder.wikia.com/wiki/Kingmaker_(adventure_path)

AFAIK they also added some original content too, no idea how much though

Then the entire game is one chapter:

Enter the Stolen Lands, a wilderness claimed by nobles, bandits, and beasts alike. Into this territory the fractious country of Brevoy sends its emissaries, tasking them with subduing the lawless folk and deadly creatures that have made it a realm of savagery and shame. Beyond the last rugged frontier stretches the home of voracious monsters, capricious fey, wily natives, and bandits who bow to the rule of a merciless lord none dare defy. Can the PCs survive the Stolen Lands, bring their dangers to heel, and lay the foundations of a new kingdom? Or will they just be one more fateful band, lost forever to the ravenous wilds?
huh?
the first chapter goes up to killing the stag lord
http://pathfinder.wikia.com/wiki/Stolen_Land
Rag-tag armies of mercenaries from the northern nation of Brevoy have turned their attention south to the region of the River Kingdoms called the Stolen Land, and hope to reclaim control of these lands to expand their power. Yet the dangerous denizens of the Stolen Land will not give up their lairs quietly. The heroes are one of four groups sent south to explore these wilderness realms and establish colonies, yet the dense woodlands and rugged hills of this region are far from safe. Will the heroes be able to wrest control of the realm from the monstrous bandit known only as the Stag Lord?

Skimming through the second book, props to owlcat for sticking so close to the source material.

I don't think it works like that.

chapter 1 - stag lord
chapter 2 - troll invasion
chapter 3 - season of bloom
chapter 4 - ??

guys does the DR bonuses of the barbarian archetype invulnerable ranger stack with thsoe fo the rpestige class stalwart defender?
In the original game (i.e., DnD 3.5) all DR of the same type from different sources stack.

For example, a Barbarian 7 has DR 1/-. A Dwarven Defender 4 has DR 3/-. A Barb 7/DD 4 will have a DR 4/-. Fear the Barb 7/DD 4 with Adamantium Full Plate...

If Paizo copied that part wholesale, then it should stack.

Note that if the DR are different, they do not stack. For example, a Lich (DR 15/bludgeon and magic) Barb 7 (DR 1/-) will have DR 15 vs anything except magical bludgeoning weapons where it would only have DR 1.

I just started this and wanted to have Valerie in the Team. I helped the Guards she tried to save and then the dimwit decided she doesnt like me she rather goes with the evil guy who just argued I should have left them to because.. she didnt like some of my arguments. Wtf is this shit and how do you get her to join you?
Valerie is the lawful choice, the dwarf is chaotic, so it's about whether you stole the money or not. Neither really care about the guards' lives, lol. The evil vs good check is for the other pair.

Is there a lot of use for the persuasion skill? I always prefer to play character who can use dialogue skills, so I wonder if I should pick the class which has it.

Lot's of them. Your persuasion skill also affects certain battle skills as well.

holy fuck are the quests that your special craftsmen give you the worst quests in the game so far. either literally fedex crap ("deliver this item for me and then come back and talk to me.") or are super vague and expect you to waste a ton of time ("go find [x] in the narlmarshes. i know there are three regions that make up the narlmarshes and have like 50 maps spread throughout them but, eh, you'll find it eventually.").

also, i only just figured out a few hours ago that you can actually visit the towns you create. they don't have a label on the map (at least for me they didn't) and they're only (barely) identifiable by being a small cluster of trees on a single access point on the world map.

Does anyone know how the alchemist surgeon works? I can sort of guess the other two (one throws bombs, the other sneak attacks), but what does 'healing other npcs with infusion' mean in practice? Sitting down and brewing herbal teas?

Afaik alchemist beneficial potions (and/or mutagens) work only on himself. Surgeon can use them on other teammembers.

Seems like if you want to get maximum mileage out of persuasion you should make sure your PC is the face, too. When the party's together adventuring persuasion goes off of the party member with the highest skill, but when talking to companions for example persuasion checks are based off the PC's skill. Wouldn't be surprised if there are kingdom management parts where you have to deal with someone and can't just fling your bard at them, too.

Bit more fapping over the game, blew way too much time playing with the stag lord's final encounter. Not only are there 5-6 different ways you can influence that fight, the tried and true standby of better tactics and preparation works wonders too. Tried just running in and got a TPK in short order. Did some things more cleanly and won with some party members KO'd and the rest in rough shape, and finally changed my tactics quite a bit and ended up wiping the floor with him and only took 5 damage to the entire fucking party. On a completely unrelated note, I see why Regongar uses a scimitar. As it turns out rolling a crit on someone with a weapon with a 19STR orc with a 4d6+4 shocking grasp attached being doubled so you do some 58 damage in one hit is pretty good, and scimitar's large crit range makes that fairly likely. Even without crits he can shit out damage pretty hard, and with self buffing he's pretty tanky. :bounce:

Did the stag lord with something like 65 days left on the clock so I've been spending the rest of my time exploring as much as I can and soaking up XP. Around 800 shy of hitting 5th level but I haven't turned in the quest at Oleg's yet so I have no idea how much I'll get from that. Looking forward to getting my greasy hands on some 3rd level spells.

Well I just tried one, he managed to nearly kill himself in the first tutorial fight with his own bomb...

edit: turns out apparently they are bugged right now and you can only target creatures with bombs, but not the ground
