Another reddit gem:
Only 4 and 5 are fairly valid. 5 isn't even as bad as some RPGs (Lookin' at you, Bard's Tale 4 and PoE2) even though it'd be nice if it was faster. I do wish it had the speed controls of PoE though, that was the one thing I absolutely loved. Cranking the speed up outside of combat and running in slomo during combat (Which I know Pathfinder can do, but you have to hold down a key for it rather than toggling an option to always leave it that way). Even BG has the teleport to cursor cheat to reduce the time spent on backtracking.

Well, my party got eaten by a cat. Lets start over, maybe an Eldritch Knight build this time. Shame alternate racial traits are not in, without them half-elves are just a poor choice compared to humans. Or aasimars. I noticed a racial feat "Wings" for aasimar that gives +3 AC and immunity to terrain effects. But more importantly, does it actually grow wings on my character? Did anyone try it?

One thing I really wish the game would tell you: what feats other feats work as prerequisites for. For example, when mousing over Power attack it would tell you that Power Attack is a prerequisite for both Cleave AND Sunder Armor. I don't remember all the Feats and their prerequisites anymore (was Sunder Armor even in D&D 3.5?) :negative:

Haven't gotten it myself but I've heard you don't get visual wings, no. If that cat in question that ate you was a leopard (I think that was it) it's kind of a bastard. Gets a bunch of attacks per round, and has high enough to-hit that even parking Valerie's fat ass in front of it it can still deal some damage. May not be worth dropping a run over depending on what level you are/were.

Will Chris Avellone make any comments on the game's success so far?
Since he just wrote the one companion and apparently was also a consultant I wouldn't be surprised if he's done and already filed his potatoes away at the bank.

That would be pretty nice. You can sorta get that if you toggle showing all unavailable feats and then take the time to look over them, but it's still a bit of a hassle and it'd be handy to see what "Fightery" feats lead to later "Fightery" feats, etc.

Can someone tell me what the hell are the time limits in chapter 2-3, I keep seeing people getting their kingdoms destroyed by events after a while, so I ask because I bumped the difficulty to Unfair and I spend most of my time resting after every fight that has more than 4+ enemies and now I'm afraid to do any side-quests, because I might get buttfucked by some shitty events. Fucking timed quests man:negative:

and that final fight was lmao.

POISON DRAIN DAMAGE POISON DRAIN MORE SPIDERS DRAIN MORE HYDRAS DAMAGE DEATH

oh and the puzzle with the birdie? it is the reason game journos won't ever beat this game

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/d/delay-poison/

Jubilost, Linzi, Tristian, Eku, and Harrim should all have(or possibly have access to for non-clerics) the communal version by that point I think

Use death ward on your front liners if you're fighting level drainers.

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/d/death-ward/

1 min/level, total immunity to negative levels and lets you ignore any existing negative levels for the duration.

Ability drain is more of a nuisance, though one restoration will remove all drain from one attribute.

Yes, but in a different form.

It was called Improved Sunder, and you can break anything with it. Armour, shield, weapon, even someone's spell component pouch. Although the description said that you can only whack what's in an enemy's hand, the Monster Manual stated you can use it to whack a Hydra's head off, so your interpretation of sunder may vary. The only thing the feat did was to deny the AoO from sundering something. If you are willing to eat the AoO, you can sunder without the feat.

Also, the way the feats don't tell you what it is a pre-requisite for? That is a legacy of the SRD, which had the same problem.

Combat mechanics are so simplistic compared to PoE, all the "degenerate" tactics like save-scumming, kiting are in, but it's fun and addictive, and the characters have funny selection/command lines.

I like it! Josh, we tried to warn you...

OK, I managed to put some time in the game in the weekend. I still like it and I believe that this feeling comes directly from the ruleset. Because other than that, I see no real reason to say that the game is better than PoE2, for example.
It lacks a lot of polish, a lot of ease of use and most importantly FEEDBACK. You can't get the info you want even if you try, some times. Also the dialogues and story are "meh" to say the least. Combat is good but lacks it a bit in the "oomph" department - hits don't feel very "impactful" even when... they are.

BUT... the ruleset feels familiar and "cozy". When I see a 1d8 I "get it". There are no weird Damage Resistances with Penetrations, "Might" and what not. Really, after playing Pathfinder I feel like Sawyer shot himself in the foot by implementing his own ruleset. D&D might not be perfect but people know it and recognize it.
Also I know people claim it's getting "boring" but fucking hell, I love me some pure, cliche fantasy setting. There's a reason it works - it's simple and you can more easily "relate". On the other hand the weird setting of PoE2 feels "off". Pirates and dwarves and magic and guns and godlikes and weird deities. Too much.

I guess TL;DR : Keep It Simple Stupid

The journal on the corpse near the shambling mound should explain it more IIRC.

I noticed not all of them do though, or my shit was bugged. Linzi oddly enough doesn't have a comedy line even though Regongar does, while Regongar has had absolutely fuck-all voiced dialog (In fact I'm not sure I've heard his voice out of selection and combat barks) while Linzi actually has a fair bit of voiced dialog.

I'm too early in P:K to judge that, but I wonder how will P:K against Deadfire for multiple approaches to quests. Deadfire is very strong with how you can finish a simple minor task through 5-6 different ways.

That's a good question, dunno either..
Also mechanically there are so many small things that Deadfire does better that I could be listing all day. Like stealth for example. Stealth in P:K is horrible, you don't know when, how or why people detect you. No interface for it at all. Deadfire does it excellently. Or the stacking of items. Ffs why don't items "auto stack" when they go in the stash in P:K? Also why only ONE potion on the quickslot and not a small stack? So so many things...
But still!

Same with me. I doubt it's the same for the majority of people though.

One friend of mine tried out P:K at my urging, and was very confused by the 1d6 stuff. "I thought, am I supposed to solve equations in this game?" were his words :)

People who followed the KS campaign - has P:K been marketing itself hard as a "spiritual successor" and all such shit, in the way that PoE was marketing itself?

I like stealth in P:KM. If you get too close enemy rolls perception vs your Stealth and attacks you if it succeeds. You don't need UI for every little shit. IE games didn't need them as well.

POE2 didn't come close to inspiring the level of euphory Pathfinder: Kingmaker planted inside me.
But this isn't Deadfire's, it's really PoE's fault :) You should give Deadfire a try, without prejudice, and imo, chances are you'll like it much better than PoE. After all, it's "pretty alright", the codex review said so.

I don't really see the reason to turn it into a pissing contest. I enjoy both POE and Pathfinder and would like to see more of both.
Me too, on both accounts.

Its funny you say boring, I felt like POE was boring personified. The setting "almost but not quite D&D", the interminable lore dumps, the "do anything because everything is the same and nothing matters" combat system. The whole thing felt smothered by the desperate attempt to create their own unique thing but constantly weighed down by the need to appeal to nostalgia.

POE2 kind of tried to fix this with the new "funky pirate" setting. Maybe if they had lead with this concept from the first game it may have worked, but they were far to afraid to alienate fans. And as you say there is just something off about the whole feel off the game.

Even tho this game has a very cliche, generic high fantasy feel to it (at least for the start areas) there is something about it that makes it seem fresh and interesting. Maybe the fact its some hungry indie developers with passion for RPGs has infused the game with that special energy that was in BIS, Troika games.

I do really hope if Owlcat make a sequel that they can explore a new setting, even an 'icewind dale' change of climate would be nice.

I've actually liked questing inside the pirate's den. New stealth mechanic shined there, plus puzzle-like quest solving reminded me a bit about hitman.
I barely beat original POE though...

PoE should fix storytelling / world building ASAP.
Especially since Obsidian inherited BIS' reputation.
Half of my friends stopped playing PoE because they didn't care about the plot, any of the characters or the world.

Even Sawyer recognizes his wrongdoing role in this ,
I remember him stating in an interview how they fucked up with Spirit Meter in MotB..
something along the lines "we can't seem to make fun game mechanics".

11 years later, he's still in that place.
Just experiment.
Hell, team up with some Japanese game studio.
Might force you to think outside the box!
