I think the problem with Haru is mostly just that you don't get enough time with her for her to grow on you. I want to say giving you a few more dungeons you could do with her would help, but the game is already insanely long.

So, I finally finished this game on Saturday. It's my first Persona-game and probably the first jRPG which I've completed. I liked the plot, most of the characters, the style, the combat and the level of detail put into the game. I wasn't so keen on the keyboard controls, the graphics and the sometimes annoying hand holding. The most serious flaw of the game is its balance: I started on normal, then switched to hard, moved to merciless for that retarded Okumura boss and then moved back to normal at the end of the game to speed things up a bit. The difficulty is all over the place and definitely needs more work. It's not a hard game, but it can be frustrating at times. The Okumura boss alone took five years off my life span. Overall, I rate it :4/5:.

Looking forward to swapping stories with ya. I'm nearly done as well (I think). ~80hours in, just about to give Shido the calling card.

What's everyone's opinion on the six skills per persona limit? I think it is too low as deciding what skill to forget is quite tedious and because it prevents you from actually using more niche skills. I think it should be eight at the very least.

I dunno, in P5 all my personas have 1-2 skills. My end-game build is one persona per element, Orpheus opener with all Auto-Ma skills, Raoul with the status effects, and Alice with Die For Me and Mahamaon.

I'm pretty sure personas have 8 skill slots in P5 Royal. Don't know how it was in the original.

Yes, you're right. I tried to figure out why I thought it was six instead of eight and I think that the passives are the reason it feels so cramped. My Haru, for example, was using two Psi skills (single target, multi target), a gun skill, two support skills and three passives: Gun Boost, Psy Boost and Psy Amp. So, when a new skill comes in in that scenario, you either have to give up one active skill or you have to remove one of the passives. However, removing a passive also weakens your boosted skill, so you're basically trading two skills for one here. I think this is especially annoying on your party members as they don't have Joker's flexibility.

I eventually phased out -kaja spells entirely, because my Joker had Orpheus with all three Auto-...-kaja skills and Wealth of Lotus. If I needed a debuff or a buff suddenly - I'd use an item. And Makoto's Forget status effect is the only status effect you ever need.

I've never used Forget since I assumed bosses are immune to ailments and I barely use ailments on normal foes.

My Personas have pretty random and overlapping skills since I tend to forget which Personas that I'm not using in a fusion have which skills, when I'm fusing new Personas. The game so far hasn't been hard enough for me to bother with making notes and getting more serious about planning builds so I don't put that much thought into it. From debuffs I always have someone with Sukunda/Masukunda/Rakunda/Marukunda for boss fights but I'm not quite at the end game yet, so maybe I'll phase these out later.

One of the best ways to get a lot of money, at least in unpatched and non-royal P5 was to cast confuse on the Narcissus boss encounter. He just starts throwing huge stacks of money and not attacking. Just stop attacking and refresh it every once in awhile and you've basically got infinite money.

2 palaces down so far, and have to say the amount of extra content and flavour which Royal adds to the original is nothing short of superb. It's mostly well done and well integrated too so far, and I'm really digging the game big time this time round.

Potential to be a real fave this if it continues. I quit the run of Persona 5 around 30% of the way in before, still enjoyed it but I lost interest. Royal however is snagging me way more.

So I finally rolled credits and the load file says I clocked in some 110+hours. I stuck mostly to the main path and did 0 meta gaming. I didn't care about maxing all the confidants and I'm sure I missed a lot of shit. All told, I did find the experience exhausting, no game should take that much time, but what kept me going was largely the excellent soundtrack and the companions (except Haru, I didn't even touch her confidant relationship thing).

-superb soundtrack. one of the key reasons I kept playing. seriously, stupendous job. very excited to play Persona 4 just for the music alone
-I liked how each dungeon introduced some unique puzzle element
-the endless dungeon was mostly filler, I didn't care for any of the sub-quests there as there's very little meat to the characters in them
-VO performances were great, villain motivations were mostly shit except the first one and the final one (Kamoshida/Maruki). the ones in between had pretty weak excuses for being in there, still, kudos for giving each dungeon its own theme and puzzle feel
-I would have enjoyed the confidants if they were half as long. As is, b/c they go up to 10, it feels like those drawn out segments from Dragon Ball Z except "my emotions." Also, it's pretty shit that the progression you make here doesn't impact the main story
-combat: a game of rock paper scissors, mostly boring, sometimes frustrating against big bosses who don't have many weaknesses and inflict status effects. my big 3 difficulty spikes were the timed boss, and Maruki's tentacle boss. That one pissed me off and made me lower the difficulty b/c by that point I just wanted to be done with the damn thing

Curious to see how much slimmer an experience Persona 4 is after this beast was. I could have done with half as many confidants and done without the endless dungeon. With this finished, I have 2 "epic" JRPGs under my belt, this and DQ11. I think I enjoyed DQ11 more than this b/c that one has a stronger feeling of adventure to it, as you move from location to location, whereas here there was a stronger sense of de ja vu brought on by how formulaic the confidant progression system feels

I'm putting this here, because I'm not sure whether it deserves its own thread. I stumbled upon a gameplay trailer for Persona 5: The Phantom X. Take a look at this:

Given that I don't speak Japanese, this trailer raised a lot of questions. However, all traces of excitement on my part vanished after I learned that this will be a free to play mobile title. I can't imagine how much they will butcher the gameplay to make money. Pure decline.

Probably will be like the SMT Gacha Game (DX2 or something). You gacha for demons there so you probably gonna gacha for Persona here

At least tedious tedious daily activies to slightly raise a number fit the persona 3+ gameplay perfectly.

Guess that game is also coming out on PC.

Looks nice enough that I was surprised it was an iOS game when I found out after watching the trailer. There was some other game called Hitori No Shita: The Outcast like that too; looked really nice, was caught off guard when the regular mobile game control layout popped up on screen.

They sure seem to be taking their sweet fucking time with that Project Re FANTASY game from the original Persona 5 team. They’ve been working on that game for like six years now.

Do you believe it's still coming
Atlus is no Nintendo to keep a single production team working for six years under wraps

Yeah, it’s definitely still happening. It’s the Persona 5 team’s next big thing after the success of Persons 5. It’s probably the biggest thing they’ve got going over there.

I guess they haven’t fully been working on Re FANTASY all that time, because that studio also did Catherine: Full Body, (which runs in their own engine, instead of Gamebryo like the original) and that came out at the start of 2019.
