No one in Japan plays RPGs anymore(they only care about nintendo and gacha) and vast majority of sales come from US. It's not retardation to appeal to US really.
But why do you think the western fans liked their games for in the first place? Not because they were like any other shitty western game. Westernization of japanese games is hopefully doomed to failed.
I afraid that Japs are not aware of that. Remember when SEGA was created all separate studio in the USA to appeal more to Americans with Sonic? From there they had mostly flops after flops. Irony, probably the best North American Sonic was this one from...Bioware :-D

Nobody seems to be reliably tracking digital sales in Japan. Physical is of course dominated by Switch titles.

P5T looks fun but I can’t help thinking that Persona 5 as a whole is getting too big it’s almost a sub series on its own at this point. To think SMT was overshadowed by Persona only for Persona to be overtaken by Persona 5.

That’s what they did with Persona 4 too. Persona 4 had that rhythm game, the two fighting games, and Persona Q. When Persona 6 happens they’ll start all over again, maybe with something different in place of Strikers.

I agree with you all the way up to Persona Q that series had Persona 3 and 4 in it while the sequel Q2 had 3 4 and 5 on it. They 100% milked Persona 4 I just believe they're doing it way more with Persona 5.

After they're done with the P5 milk and then decide to do a P6 I wonder what that'll be like. I'm not sure where else they can go. I suspect they might make it an online experience

There’s a leaker that I guess has been right about a few other things that is saying Persona 6 is expected to come out in 2026. Until then Atlus is researching the P5X game and looking to do a version for the Japanese market, there’s a new Persona fighting game that’s going to happen, and there’s some crossover game called Persona Asa that’s a crossover between all the Persona games.

Apparently they also want to do remakes of Persona 1 and 2, but it doesn’t sound like that’s happening between now and Persona 6 coming out.

It's depressing for me to think I'll be in my 40's when P6 comes out playing a game about high school kids going on adventures and becoming emotionally connected to the characters in the game lol

Sorry for being extremely late to this party but I finished P5 Royal recently and wanted to share some of my thoughts. It was my first Persona game and while getting into the game was a bit difficult it was a lot of fun afterwards - at least most of the time. I don't think I can tell the Persona verterans here anything they don't know already but here is what I noticed:
  • The whole life simulation part was very interesting, I have never played a game like this. I got really into it and tried to optimize my days while leveling the confidants in the most effective way. I probably did a very poor job compared to the pros out there but it was fun. I did not like that the game sometimes takes my control away and locks me out for a whole day. This happens a bit too often for my taste and it just adds insult to injury when the game still lets you go to bed manually and just blocks every other action. Why not just jump to the next day immediately?
  • Combat was a lot of fun and did not get old even after dozens of hours. Some of the later bosses were a bit too tanky but other than that it was excellent
  • The art style was amazing and it was probably one of the most stylish games I have ever played. Strangely, the best looking parts of the game were the portraits during ingame dialogues with neither the ingame graphics nor the anime cutscenes coming close
  • Good dialogue and a lot of very good companions. Some of them (Morgana, Akechi) got on my nerves but most of them were excellent with my bro Ryuji being my number one
  • The finale of the original game was excellent, in comparison the third semester was a bit of a let-down
  • Pacing of the game could be a bit better, the game did not respect my time at all and especially the start was very slow
Overall, I was very pleasantly surprised and am definitely interested in Persona 6. And for the record my waifu was:

Ann - chosen purely by looks

This statement is kind of interesting. I’d say the time management aspect of the Persona series isn’t all that different from the time management aspect of Darkest Dungeon. They aren’t exactly the same, but the underlining fundamentals of sending Joker someplace to raise his stats or make some money isn’t different from sending one of your characters in Darkest Dungeon somewhere to lower their stress and other negative effects. The big difference, besides a presentational one, and besides Persona 5 only letting you tell Joker where to go, is how the turns work. In Darkest Dungeon you’ve only got one turn for the day and you’ve got to go into a dungeon. In Persona 5 (if I remember right) you essentially have two turns a day, which can either be used individually to raise your stats or bond level, (and sometimes both) or both used to go into a dungeon; either the main story dungeon Palaces or the randomly generated subways dungeon Mementos. Unlike Darkest Dungeon you can skip going into a dungeon in Persona 5, but since dungeons have a set time limit you could end up failing them by fucking around too much; although I’m not sure what happens if you run out of time.

Assisted Living Godzilla you get a game-over if you run out of time. The cutscene is slightly different depending on which dungeon you've failed to complete, but it is always a hard game-over. And you're right: In Persona there are (usually) two turns a day: "after school" and "evening". In P5 you can get a limited extra slot if you level up a certain companion, but this only triggers and handful of times and can only be used to read, study or craft items.

You can also pay to do laundry (or coffe....but at least making coffee raise a stat) and It Is a good idea, the price isn't even high while time Is always limited.

There is some time management in DD but it is far less complex and also not very imporant. The normal game mode does not have a global time limit, so all you need are two squads (or two characters with the same class) and the time management becomes trivial. Go on a run with one squad, come back, place the characters in stress management and get the next squad for your run. In Persona 5, you have time limits constantly and you need to juggle a lot more responsibilities that are often mutually exclusive (this is why it can be difficult to get all companions to level 10 in one playthrough). This makes good time management much more important and the different presentation also makes it closer to real life

The companions in P4G are less one-dimensional / more complex, better written, more 'human' and - arguably - one of the best, if not THE best, NPC team in gaming in my opinion - mostly because the natural chemistry within the group. Hard to explain more without actually playing the game. For me, the companions in P5 were actually a big disappointment, coming from P4G. The only two that didn't suck IMO were Makoto and Yosuke. Also, you will be able to join those heated 'best waifu' discussions about P4G - consensus is not easy at all.

P4G companions aren't that complex but they are funnier and as you said more human.
P5 are about.....business. They do their task for Joker and seems little concerned about themselves, you don't even seem interact each other except few scenes if Joker isn't present while It happened often in P4. They even seems to despise each other...at least It Is the attitude of Morgana toward Ryuji....It Is not like Yosuke joking with Kanji but being his friend.

Confidants are good. In P4G non party social link (except your awesome family) didn't fit much with the story while in P5 they are adults and they support you.
The trouble Is that P5 teenager party behave in a similar way of non playable confidants.

With Makoto they did a mess.
She Is the priestess arcana. Her nickname Is QUEEN. She Is bossy and a nagger (she tell you to study more than the professors!)..... isn't she supposed to resemble a little Yukiko? Empress Haru is.....the girl that grow healing plants and can't decide nothing. Makoto also Is your strategist.....but you need Hifumi for that because she Is the champion of shogi and also a cut Phantom Thief.
Despite those flaws Makoto works well because being sister of Sae you see her talking with other characters without Joker presence. She also talks with the headmaster. It doesn't happen with the others except Akechi (that you are supposed to hate and work very well)....they just tell you "I have spokem with X that told me" during their social link.

I mean, that's just complete bollocks. Persons 5 is full of interaction between characters. Like it's almost constantly happening all the way throughout the game.
