Progress update on Path of Wuxia:

Xiayinge Development Log-20201221

Hello, players, thank you for your patience. On the winter solstice day, in addition to sending blessings to all players, the team also wants to announce the latest news about the development progress of Xiayinge with all players.

At present, the development of the second-year content is nearing completion. The team expects to officially launch the second-year update in February next year. At that time, the price of Xia Yinge will also be increased. The specific price will be announced to players in the next log. We report that players who have previously purchased Xia Yin Ge do not need to buy again. The content will be updated for free in the second year. Players can continue to play with the archive at the end of the first year.

This time we have also prepared a few new version of the actual machine screenshots to share with you. In addition to the continuous advancement of new teammates, new characters, new scenes and plots, we have also made additions to the game mechanism, adding difficulty settings, Teaching instructions and more diverse moves and special effects, I hope that players will like the results of the team members' efforts.

Finally, we are very sorry for the players who have waited so long. Xia Yin Ge is a very important work for the team. Therefore, in the development of new content, we also have higher requirements for ourselves. Players bring a richer and more varied plot experience. In the future, the team will continue to work hard to complete the development of Xia Yin Ge. We hope that all players will continue to support us. Thank you all, and wish you all a happy winter solstice reunion.

Progress update on Path of Wuxia:

February huh. The 1st pass fan TL should be available in 2 weeks or so with rough machine TL. Polished one would probably need 3 - 6 months considering everybody is busy now unlike when Year 1 came out in April/May.

Seems like Project Moon's (Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina) next title is a Dungeon RPG.

Year 2 of Path of Wuxia is out. The Chinese name also is changed I think:

From Discord seemingly the game file structure changes again, the UI elements also changes so expect a longer time before a patch is available.

There's new Ho tu lo shu patch that adds a lot of companion stuff.

1000 lines of new dialogue, translation patch won't cover this.

So played Path of Wuxia on Hard (from year 1). The difficulty option is just flat +-25%/50% damage and defense buff on enemies (e.g. on Hard enemy deal 25% more damage, take 25% less damage. On Hell it's 50%. The easier difficulty is just the negative modifier).

In HTLS this simple adjustment works because 1. You get an extra party member for each level of difficulty 2. You can grind stats and moves 3. Your move repertoire is not limited to 4 moves (which is incredible nerfs to companion basically, you not so much because you can switch weapons).

In Path of Wuxia, companion stats increased at fixed rate based on time (and your friendship level). You are fixed at 4 sized party and moves are limited. In general, martial ats are pretty weak without synergy as well. This resulted in the game being a PAIN in a fight. Literally everybody above the lowest mook can one-shot your party member if they crit on Hard. Even when not critting they would easily deal like 60 - 70% of the party member health, which means getting countered is almost a death sentence (as enemy prioritize killing your party) unless you can bait with someone else who also has low health (one party member has a very weak healer summon who can do this).

This is even more egregious in year 2 (as this is new and probably not balanced well). Some Jobs/Quests you take from the board are so hard it's not even remotely feasible to get a perfect grade on Hard. The only way I see playing Hard year 2 is feasible is if you literally just wake up - eat - train - shit every day and ignore the rest of the game. I don't even think Hell is probable to beat unless you consider a failure spiral ala AoD a good experience (fail at task - less reward - you are weaker - fail even more task, etc).

On the other hand Year 2 added a lot of minor characters to the game (your juniors and some seniors) which added a lot if you enjoy the fluff part of Path. The story also went Cerebus Syndrome pretty hard pretty early (as in the prologue of Chapter 2). Year 1 besides some hints of darker things happening is pretty chill and positive until you got to butt end of Winter Exam. Year 2 started with, but no limited to, converting your senior/junior to brainwashed zombies, having your equivalent of freshmen facing danger greater in their first 2 months than what you did in your whole first year, the villain literally kidnapped whole villages, drug them, turn them to slaves/zombies etc. While in year one it's pretty easy to be biassed to be a "good" xia, but the massive dickishness of year 2 villain make it pretty easy for the player to went genocidal with them (which is intentional, the writing of the game even edge you to it and the villain doesn't even show single strand of remorse as well) so the main theme of "What kind of xia you want to be" is much more explored in Year 2.

All in all I enjoyed what I played so far in Year 2 but probably will restart with Normal because man, fuck the flat damage modifier. The dev also promise more events with NPC/companion on anniversary update (around May) which probably will make the time management even harder if not balanced well with other objectives in the game.

These both look interesting, maybe they'll get an English patch like some of the other Sword & Fairy/Chinese Paladin games.

Pathfinder: Wrath

Yeah pretty much what people been saying it seems, with copyright laws and all. The latest Chinese version of Tale of Wuxia also changed some portraits into low quality replacement due to the Artist being Heluo's and as the publisher and Heluo parted way they changed some of the art as well.

Unofrtunate that Jin Yong's works won't be adapted into decent video games anymore. He is the father of modern Wuxia, while the genre is not that big globally it's like saying modern fantasy can't make games based on Tolkien works or something. Well, the right owner can always be making a new game I guess but considering Chinese gaming landscape high chance it will be mobile game or something.
