I’m loving it, but I can’t seem to find any hotkeys and controlling everything via mouse is a pain in the ass. Other than that it’s as good as it looks.

Pathfinder: Wrath
Game is looking good and the fact there is supposed to be a module maker make me drool

Is there any release date estimate from this combat beta? 1 year?

The original release timeline from the Kickstarter campaign: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ceresgames/realms-beyond-ashes-of-the-fallen/description

Timeline: Combat Beta (mid of 2019), Early Access (end of 2019), Release (early 2020)

Additionally, we've now been told that: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ceresgames/realms-beyond-ashes-of-the-fallen/posts/2780712

Therefore, the development time from this version to the next release, the Early-Access, will be much shorter than originally scheduled.

So end of 2020 then? At least for EA. Seems good and in time for end year holiday

Okay - gave this a spin last night (equipped the pre-made party and took them into battle, then played around with the character creator) and compiled some very brief thoughts. Note I was playing on a laptop in my armchair, and couldn't be bothered sitting at the table so I had no mouse (and hence no scroll button) and that might have a small influence over my experience.

The Good
  • The combat generally - if you liked Realms of Arkania or Temple of Elemental Evil this for me feels like those games (but with D&D/OGL 3.5 without multiclassing in the case of the former and without the silly wheel command bar thing in the case of the latter). Combat animations and sounds are really good and for once in a while Archers feel Great again. One thing though to keep in mind, the demo has very staged battles; the speed of these battles is the same as RoA or ToEE, which means they can be relatively slow, so the pacing of encounters will be important in the actual game.
  • Statistics galore - If you love having stats stats and more stats, well you will be in for a treat - again it has the feel of Realms of Arkania. I didn't pay much attention but you have even a stat for insanity as well as food. If as expected a lot of this game will be traversing a world map then I think these are good mechanics to have in. For those stats that I had a look at the info pop-ups seemed to do the trick as to what they were about.
  • Character information / character creation - It is detailed eg. if you are creating a half-elf, you can choose the parental association (Human region or Elven) which is kind of cool. There are also backgrounds as well to choose from, and the text that I looked around that is kind of cool.
  • Equipment - Just in the demo there was a lot of variety and it all equips onto your characters and has different appearances etc. Eg. Equipped a rapier onto the pre-determined thief and he holds like you would hold a rapier and the thing looks like a rapier etc. which is cool.
  • Portraits - I don't like portraits generally but if you are going to have them you need lots and they need to be consistent; I can report that it meets those requirements eg. for a male half-elf there were at least more than 8 portraits I think.
  • Character Banking - Small thing and don't know whether this will be retained in the final version, but currently there is (like Wizardry 8 for example) a bank of characters that you have created, so if you spend a lot of time procrastinating about both an individual character creation and also party composition you can spend three hours building a character then save and go to sleep....

Areas for Improvement
  • Hot keys and controls - As Guestposting said, I spent a bit of time looking to this / pressing buttons randomly to no avail. How do select all of your party? How do stop the party following moving one individual character? I did work out you can "pass" your turn by pressing enter...anyway the main menu has no ability at this stage to change this, but I note the main menu looks incomplete at this stage anyway so that is probably coming.
  • Screen scrolling and zooming - As mentioned at the top I wasn't playing with a mouse but the first battle there was a fair distance between the party and the enemies, and the position I wanted to move a character was off the screen and it was a bit clunky in an other-wise fairly smooth rolling combat. You can move the screen by pressing the arrow keys but couldn't work out if there was an ability to zoom out.
  • Lack of variation on the paper doll features - Not a big deal for me but using the Half Elf as an example again, compared to the portraits there were much less options with respect to say the number of head types (which includes facial features) and colors. As I am playing Pathfinder: Kingmaker for the first time atm, Realms Beyond feels as thought it has a lot less tinkering in this space in comparison. But as I said, I don't think it will matter too much - it is great that there seems to be lots of variation in equipment which will change the look on the paper doll, so who cares about the beards not matching the portrait types.

Ostarion Alright, here is my combat demonstration, in which I exploit many rules based on 3.5 and it works quite well, so if you have some difficulties, you might reference it.

I already see a bug with the game here.
Color Spray DC should be 17: 10+lvl 1 spell+int 4+focus 1+gnome 1 = 17
So either spell focus does nothing or gnome bonus does nothing.

What is that shit? Exhaustion/hunger/thirst indicators? Get that shit out of there as soon as possible, for Christ's sake.

Summon Monster I summons demons? This is new to me.
Well, creatures you summon with Summon Monster have the fiendish archetype, so they have at least some connection to devils and demon. As for the summoned "demon" creature, they probably didn't want to waste time working on models for fiendish rats, scorpions and octopuses.

Wizards can conjure food and water, but I'm suspecting those bars will be used in combat. Like some illusion spells targeting sanity maybe.

Maybe here: https://realms-beyond.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders/155054

Or bother them to create a special offer to join combat beta.

What I need to pay? Some banking operation? Cred card? Then no.
For steam I use my cell number (Xsolla) and that's all.
Information anyway is full about who I am but at least doesn't have straight cred card number.
Of course it would be better if cell number was errrrr.. left? crooked? ah, you know what I mean.

Think the problem is playing too much of 5E , DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your ability modifier. Maybe thats the mistake .
