You still require a safe room to save your game on the standard/normal difficulty.

So, uh. What are the best Resident Evils, for someone who hasn't played any of them and won't play them all? Playing on PC.

If you’re not gonna play ‘em all, Resident Evil 4. Revelations 2 is pretty fucking awesome too but there is a lot of fanservice referencing previous games in the series.

Play the remake of the first one. Next play the original Resident Evil 2 followed by Resident Evil 3. That way you get the full "classical RE" formula experience which is what made this series unique.

I would say the original Resident Evil 2 is still the best one due to the A/B scenarios, only it is the easiest of the 3. REmake is next in quality and quite difficult. RE3 is good and hard but it is simply not as good as the second game was.

This REmake 2 I would rate as better than Resident Evil 4. It could have been much better but the A/B scenarios got gutted and some iconic parts from the original got changed too much, most notably the crawl to the police station in the beginning which is simply better in the original.

RE 4 is where the series decided to focus on all the wrong things and abandoned most of the good things. Not a bad game by itself, quite entertaining actually, but it honestly shouldn't have been a resident evil game.

The Resident Evil 1 and 2 on Steam are the remakes, right? Do the remakes have the FMV stuff?

Where's my "NO" button?

The old FMVs have completely gone. Old RE 1 and 2 don't exist in canon any more.

Series canon:

RE 0, RE remake, RE 2 remake, RE 3, Code Veronica X, RE 4, RE 5, RE 6, Revelations, Revelations 2, RE 7

revelations 1 happened before RE5, revelations 2 happened before RE6.

How is RE 2 remake part of Canon if A/B route contradict each other and also doesn't makes sense CV being there if there is no indication of Claire going after Chris like in original RE2.

They haven't got to remaking Code Veronica yet.

A canon route will be selected for series consistency purposes. Yes I know the RE lore isn't the most consistent, but it's not hard to imagine them picking a "true" ending just like other video games series have done when there is an element of player choice.

I haven't played RE 2 remake but it looks like Capcom are going to remake all the games from the older generations until they get to RE 4 (which has already been remade in the 'HD' era).

Still, I don't think REmake 2 is canon because as Capcom says, it's just a reimagination of the original. There are also too many contradictions in the game to take that as canon, unless you take just the basic:
Leon and claire meeting due to him saving her from a zombie.
Claire is looking for her brother and he isnt there.
How William and Mr.X looked.
Leon getting shot by annette saving Ada.
Ada "dying"
But that was already in RE2 so there is no point in not consider original RE2 as canon instead of REmake 2.

Speaking of cannon, isn’t there like 10 different endings to Resident Evil 3?

Start with 7, it’s the most ‘modern’ so it probably serves as a good entry point.

After that, resident evil and resident evil 4.

If you like those, then play 5, Revelations and Revelations 2.

Why tf would they throw away those FMV vids, that stuff is great and doesn't age. Might have to emulate if the controls aren't too terrible. Too bad that ROM site is gone, will have to do some poking around.

Get a Vita and play Resident Evil Director’s Cut 1, 2 and 3. Then get some drpgs and Senran Kagura while you’re at it.

Someone shows how RE2 remake could have looked with fixed camera angles.

Personally I think it looks way cooler.

There's resident evil 4 and then the rest but don't start with resident evil 4. Start with REmake and then work your way through the series

That looks cheap and horrible. Like every half baked RE2 remake in Unity that recreates the game in 3D then shovess the player camera in the corner of the room. It's an afterthought slapped on top of a game not designed around it. Shite.

Yeah, I also think that. I love fixed camera angles and I'd love REmake 2 to be like that(same for REmake 3 but in this case I have no hope for that), but that only works WHEN the game is designed around that.

There's a few shots such as when opening a shutter door where you get a glimpse to what this game could've looked like with fixed camera angles. The funny part is that they don't even have to do pre-rendered backgrounds to pull this off. The environment textures are uncannily close enough to what you see in REmake that you could get away with it, and still give off the same type of atmosphere which REmake 2 already does in many parts.

GENERIC GIANT SPIDER'S TOTALLY BIASED LIST OF CLASSIC RE:

Resident Evil 1 (not Remake, the true RE1. I don't know if you can find it anywhere conventional since I think the PSN/PSClassic use the Director's Cut which has shittier music and LESS GORE).

Resident Evil 2.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

If you liked or loved all the games above:

Resident Evil: GAIDEN, just kidding, don't play this, it sucks. I just want to trick you.

Resident Evil Remake (you will have proven your worth to the series and are given permission to enjoy this)

Resident Evil: Code Veronica

RE2 Remake

EDIT YOU SHOULD READ: After a quick search, the Nintendo DS had a port of Resident Evil 1 called "Deadly Silence" which you could probably emulate ez.

Okay I've been playing this lately on and off (the way not meant to be played (tm)) and I'm really loving it.

But now I'm at that point where Mr. X is chasing me around. That + Lickers + Low ammo = Heart problems.
