Pretty sure Potato flowers in full bloom was released before 2022? Regardless, that's when I played it, so I gave that a vote as well as Bannerlord (also thought that was pre-22) and Elden Ring. Kinda ashamed to say I don't think I played much else. A lot of titles on that list are extremely obscure though. Are they like ichi.io RPG makers games or...

Haven't barely played any yet, normally games must only be purchased at hefty discounts years after their release. Top-voted KotC2 for the sake of the forum's prestige, and Stranger of Paradise second because the demo allowed me to turn the main character into Kenshiro and the dialogue is hilarious —though how that could even qualify as RPG is a matter for sempiternal discussion, and most probably the answer is it shouldn't.

The thing that made Sanctuary amazing (the map design) is gone here. Game balance is much worse (bosses can be easier than random enemies). Mage hunts are boring and repetitive. Basically, everything I liked about Sanctuary is not here.

I used to do it like that, before redditors voted visual novel in as an RPG of the year for the sake of it. Now I understand when you're surrounded by retards, you have to adapt and act like them.

I kind of agree, but honestly, I think he's just trying to get out ahead of the complaining that: why isn't X on the list!? that populates these threads every year.
It is a lot of crap to wade through though. But I'm looking forward to the eventual victory of Super Lesbian Animal RPG, it seems like it checks a lot of Codexers' requirements for GOTY.
