We need to do the poll with the 158 games precisely so we can then sort out which ones are actually noteworthy - then everyone can easily search them.

So when felipepepe puts 158 games and you decide to search for any game that is not triple A or from any dev you already know about and after looking for two or three that are literally trash, you just give up and assume they were put there just to say a lot of RPGs are being released every year.

This is a poll, not a recommendations list. We need to do the poll with the 158 games precisely so we can then sort out which ones are actually noteworthy - then everyone can easily search them.

perhaps moving on to system where at least 1 codexer need to vouch for game is in order.

I suppose my thought is, I'd be curious if you had a strict limitation, e.g. What is the best/worst RPG you played last year and why, that that would probably be more illuminating about tastes and why certain games are loved/hated than just a list of numbers that could mean different things to different people, given that no one can even agree what an RPG is.

Imo, it's either this way, or people freely choose a top 5/10 list.

The downside of choosing freely is that the one responsible will have to count and parse everything manually.

Because at some point it becomes tedious. How many games wont have a single vote, 50? 100?

Codexers are such entitled, whiny fucking babies. While I dislike having a bunch of random RPGs on the list, and would prefer a more curated selection, Felipe does a good job at the end of the day and I don't see any of the other people complaining putting forth a product that is even a tenth of what Felipe's polls end up being. If more people voted and played RPGs we would have a lot less fucking problems.

I'm looking forward to next year's list full of games with less than 50 steam user reviews, games that don't even have a single rpg tag, games published by Square Enix, and games that came out 30 years ago but were re-released by a team of interns and therefore somehow qualify for current year.

The pool debate is the same debate that happens every year since felipepepe eventually took the lead in this process. And hey, he's the one having the job of doing it, so he should do it as he pleases. No one is stopping someone else from making their own pool.

It's the same principle Gabe himself has with Steam: "if they tell me it's a game, then it's a game - the users are the ones who will self-regulate the shop". The process of curating the data is irrelevant because all that matters is the amount of information, not the information itself. Throw as much data as possible and it will sort itself out automatically. Of course there are dozens of arguments (that anyone who has ever studied a minimum about statistics should know) that this is not a good methodology to have reliable results, but that's besides the point.

He's obviously in an impossible position - a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation. If he's going to get into the argument, he's either going to have to argue for the inclusion of all the rubbish games or he's going to have to explain the totally subjective criteria that made him choose this or that game to be on the list. And for someone who is already having so much trouble, it sounds like more dumb work, I get it. Debating with Codex is not worth the effort. Especially coming from someone who seems to love the genre so much that he decided to make a book about it - cataloguing everything that came out has its relevance, even if it skews a poll.

At the end of the day, it's like the mantra goes: it's good for what it is.

how does Sacrifice compares to first game? S&Sanctuary was super good gameplay wise, but color palette was too boring. i never manage to finish it even if i reached 2/3 of the game i think
