This Elden Ring hate made me remember just how long it's been since a TES or BioWare product came out.

Codex has been quiet. Too quiet.

Elden Shit is shit. And I say this having completed it when it came out, and also I do like some From Software games (DaS1 is great, and Sekiro, which I am playing now, has a thousand times better combat system than ER).

ER is bad in pretty much every way. The combat is utter shit, the proper way to play it (via timed parries or rolls or whatever) is broken because bosses have tracking, infinite stamine, jump around like fleas, and have unpredictable attack patterns with feints and delays mixed in with ultra-fast 3 frame animation attacks. Good luck with that unless you are a e-sports athlete. So most people cheese the shit out of the game (summonable NPCs, summonable human players, broken builds that 3 shot bosses, other cheese).

The world is also utter shit because DaS1 originally had a great tight, well designed world, with many layers on top of each other. ER, on the other hand, has a huge fucking open world that loses all of that design and layers, and replaces it with ... tons of reusable bosses and other crap. Since FS games are so sparse on dialogue and non-combat related exploration, it doesn't make any sense for them to have open worlds. You can't really wander around and explore when you are fighting all the time.

George Martin added literally nothing writing wise, it's the same exact plotline/lore as every other FS game, and there is not much of it anyway for such a huge spread out game.

So yeah, sounds about right for 2022 GOTY... For 2023, GOTY will be Tetris again, after the movie bumps it up in popularity yet again.

I mostly agree with everything you've said. As a product that involved a lot of effort and money to make, I am impressed by how competent it is.

However on a game design, aesthetic and narrative level, it's outshined by several of its predecessors.

In hindsight, this made the codex rivalry between Elex II and Elden Ring enjoyers funnier.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (136th place) not as high as I've expected.
I would have expected it to be lower. A good number of people here loathe it either because they always hated FF7 or they're superfans who seethe over changes to the story/combat system.

Props to Meb and Nelka and others for voting along with me more or less. :M
FF7 Intergrade isn't a remake, it's a sequel. Saying it "changed" any aspect of ff7 is mind-bogglingly retarded.

You have to be honest about these things. I was looking forward to Elden Ring, ELEX 2, and Expeditions: Rome in 2022, bought and played all 3 games, and they all turned out to be shit. Sucks, but the truth is what it is.

all voted 5/5 for The Impregnation of the Elves: Conquest of the Arrogant Fairies by Impregnation

Expecting reviews and impressions in a dedicated thread since it seems so good.
I haven't actually played it, I just went through and rated everything 5 except Elden Ring, which I rated 1 (haven't played either) since I know there'll be weebs praising it simply for being japshit and they need to be counterbalanced.

Although I remain a firm supporter of elf impregnation in general.

Also just to say, amusing as this is. I didn't actually vote for that game.

I can only assume Konjad looked at the wrong column.

Edit: GrafvonMoltke take your fake news rating and shove it up your ass.

My apologies, it was Haba not you who voted for that

First Disco, now Elden Ring, can we end this charade, stop pretending the site has anything to do with RPGs anymore, and just vote for Call of Duty or FIFA for GOTY next year?
we're decades past the point where people accepted that 'role playing' roughly refers to dopamine hits from stats going up, regardless of whether they're composed in any sensible manner within the game itself, with more and more people rejecting even that ("do we NEED stats for role playing?") and being very satisfied with what my generation used to call CYOA

I wanted to make a "Yeah, that's a nice top3. Now let's see top10." meme. But tbh the top3 isn't nice, either.

What does a nice top3 look like? Please elaborate, I'm really curious.
1. Impregnation of elves.
2. Battle brothel.
3. Super lesbian animal rpg.

But I assume you're one of the 0 people currently playing kotc2 on steam, so you probably hard disagree:(

I'd like to see the correlation between users' ratings for Elden Ring and whether they played KOTC2.

Is the kind of person who plays KOTC2 more stingy with his ratings (for Elden Ring and also in general)?
Don't let anyone say I never did anything for you. :P

Let me know if you need any help interpreting it or if you want me to send you the Excel file. Don't open this spoiler unless you want to see, it's long af.

Edited to add a few explanations of the columns up top since I just realized it's not necessarily intuitive.

Dadd you might be interested in this too with the questions you were asking in the other thread.

The numbers are the ranks people gave the game.
Played is the sum of the 1-5 ratings.
Played ER is the number of people who played Elden Ring who also played the game in this row.
Played KC2 is the number of people who played Knights of the Chalice 2 who also played the game in this row.
Average is the average of all ratings from 1-5 for that game.
Average ER is the average of all ratings from 1-5 given for that game from people who played Elden Ring.
Average KC2 is the average of all ratings from 1-5 given for that game from people who played Knights of the Chalice 2.

I basically just did this to satisfy Infinitron's curiosity since it was an interesting question and he does a lot for the site.

In case anyone besides me cares about this, I noticed a set of errors in my original table that were introduced when I sorted it before pasting it over.
I didn't notice at first because I didn't double check it until now when I saw some results at the bottom that were impossible. The corrected version is in the spoiler above.

Uf, RPG Watch does not approve.
That place sure has changed, that thread manages to be more edgy & spiteful than the Codex... I liked them more when they were a bunch of chill dads playing Spiderweb games.
No, they shit on this list for a good reason: It is shit.

1. Action game
2. Tactical game
3. Tactical game
4. jRPG
5. soooo-funny--xdddd-we-voted-random-hentai-xddd
...

This does indeed look a bit better:
wat.jpg

But again has similar issue.

Including every fucking game that came out in 2022 is not a good way to choose best RPG.

If you wanted to make best game of the year, fine, but I thought RPGCodex focused on one genre.

In addition, if there are few RPGs in a year there could be an option "I do not consider any game to be worth the prestige", and with enough votes the award would not be given.

By edgy & spiteful you mean they made an accurate assessment of the list.
