I am both sad at what those people are doing and strangely envious. I wish I could have so much faith in some thing and be guaranteed that yes, this is The Game. You are going to have fun playing it for the next ten years. You will want nothing else. I wish that could be true. I wish it could be SO engrossing that I lose myself in the game for 10 000 hours. Then, if you think about it, 20 000$ wouldn't be that much of a waste. I wish.

But anybody with a sane mind knows they'll get bored 60 hours into it, if the game is good.

This is all about delusions.

At least, Chris Roberts is trying to bring an ambitious game to the table that push the limit of what's been done so far. That is much more than what you can say about the average game of today. People who complain about the 100 GB install forget about how we used to be excited for a 30 MB install.

I bought a small ship. The cheapest one, because part of me wants to believe this game isn't going to be an utter failure and is going to at least get a few things right.

I like what I'm seeing in most of the videos about this game.
Hope it will be fun ... in 3 to 4 years, when it's finished AND polished. :M
But I have my doubts, even with that timeframe. Too many systems, too little focus. It will be like Skyrim or other AAA games, awesome for the first couple of hours until you realize that there is no depth behind these systems and it's all just window dressing.

.

Ive got thousands of hours out of mediocre mmos and hundreds out of simple multiplayer shooters. Ive always backed Star Citizen because its a fresh take on the sandbox genre. That and as you mentioned Roberts ambition is why ive still got a few hundred in ships for this game.
It hurts to look at the procession of WoW clones and korean grinders, since playing one of each Ive played them all. SC is my best hope in filling this gap and doing so without catering to the lowest common denominator with fidelity levels made to run on potatoes.

This is my most realistic fear, while its nice to list out all the things we can do, I expect to play a fulfilling game sooner rather than later. If Star Citizen only starts to match its ambition by 2020, my money in the project will be long recouped.

Remember when you were young, and the rich kids had toys that were so much better than yours? Now you can experience that feeling again in Star Citizen!

Deep in your subconscious mind spreading lies.
I think this will be like STALKER SOC, the end product will be a demo of what they game promised to be. Similarly because of actual ambitious design, if released will dominate the genre.

Edit: Besides that I remember installing BG2 minimum settings because our PC didn't have enough space even with only win 95 installed.

How can they still need more money?

Now they have a subscription for a game that you cant play... tis is getting ridiculous.

Have they ever released, to backers, detailed development costs for the project? including salaries.
