Also, wouldn't there be some point where you've increased the size of the shader cache so much that you increase the time it takes to find the cached shader, sort of defeating the purpose of the whole thing?
hash tables have an O(1) lookup time on average

To anyone without at least 4GB of VRAM, get very comfortable with game streaming services or playing MUDs over the next couple years because you're gonna be hurting. Should've grabbed one of those RX580s with 8GB that were selling for about a hundred bucks for years between crypto and covid shortages. It's funny seeing these guys holding onto GTX970s and tried to skip three generations of hardware getting stuck with it and are now bitching about "bad optimization" on every Steam Discussion board whenever their mid-tier seven year old GPUs can't run modern games too well.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if even a GTX970 ends up being enough for Star Citizen after the Gen12 renderer and addressing server-side performance issues but that missing .5GB of VRAM is gonna hurt. How any GTX970 owner tolerated that debacle like a good little cuck and didn't immediately demand a refund from their retailer for false advertising is beyond me.

There was a class action lawsuit and everyone who bought a 970 got paid. Personally I bought a 980 because of the vram thing and held on to it until I got a 3080.

Do you think this is a matter of poor optimization, or are they just trying to draw too much stuff?

Recently there is a bug when you try to log in into game. Second paragraph gives info about SQ42. Apparently there will be multiple "paths" through campaign. OR maybe something like call of duty did at start with multiple characters.

Dunno dude, "The year is now 2934" just sort of sounds like a hint on the next release date.

Star citizen = 19 + 20 +1 + 18 + 3 + 9 + 20 + 9 + 26 + 5 + 14 = 144

It's 9 years in the making

If we divide the sum of letters in the name with the number of years it exists, we get 16, the number of years left to release.

jpegs are important !

Exploration part of SC isn't in game nor it is even on any ETA. We only know that SC will feature outside of hand made systems randomly generated ones and that is where "exploration" will happen like of like in ED where you got money for mapping systems and stuff.

jpegs are important years in advance !!

Yeah, I've found that "Y'all" and "Folks" are good indicators to discard the rest of the text. Except from an actual person from the south who talks like that normally. Damn cultural appropriation.

another leak from bug in live game. Seems that this and previous one are Theaters of War leaks. Theathres of War will be another mode for SC which will be basically your battlefield scenarios and will join Star Marine (FPS combat game mode) and Arena Commander (flight combat game mode). ToW was supposed to be done by outsourced studio but that studio got bought recently by Sony and since them according to SC leaks ToW will be downscalled to just 2-3 maps like Star Marine and Arena Commander as CIG doesn't have time for it.

3.16 went into evocati and according to some guys it should be out before christmas on live servers.

3.16 on paper is smallish patch but suprisingly this got through without being on release view:

Atmospheric Bounties The addition of flying bounties in atmosphere to all Stanton (1,2,3,4), allowing the player to now fight AI bounty targets above planetary locations. These can be in areas above Caves, Derelicts, Junksites, Outposts, and UGFs. Updated rep for Infiltrate and defend missions to not punish on player abandon due to the spawn times

So far all combat took in space but now it seems like they figured out how to make AI work in atmosphere. I don't even remember any space game in which i could fly from space to planet with atmosphere and have combat in ships in both of those conditions.

Roadmap for 3.17:

- We plan to copy and paste {REDACTED} over every example of <-=PLACEHOLDER=-> to make our incomplete lore seem cooler.
- Increase polygon count on elevator buttons.

Oh snap they have nonexistent atmospheric dogfights now too to go with the nonexistent space dogfights? Nice! But do all the jpegs work in atmosphere, or do you gotta shell out 1200 dollars for that?

You can't think of any other game that did that, and you still can't, because star citizen isn't a real game.

But I'm starting to get it now. This is a brilliant con by CIG. They know there are a bunch of low self esteem retards out there that will read their idiotic press releases and "leaks", then get super invested in their dumb interpretation of the vague things they promised. Those retards then go and have retard fights about it all over the internet and get their fragile egos twisted into the project. Because these losers can't bear the thought of being proven wrong, they throw millions of dollars at jpegs to keep the con going.

This also means there's no reason at all to feel sorry for these people. There just was so much supply of them and no real demand, so CIG is doing us all an economic service.

Ideally, one day they'll be too bankrupted to afford internet access, and CIG will have made the entire interwebs 90% better. Still won't have made a video game, but that's ok.

Sure, any day now.
Coincidentally, that's the release date for all of Star Citizen's features.

Star Citizen backers are responsible for scams existing. If there weren't gullible morons eager to be scammed, scamming would be unprofitable and people wouldn't bother. But, unfortunately, we've got a bunch of brainlets who, somehow, have access to money.

It's like how unsanitary conditions allow pest populations to fester and grow out of control, and eventually contaminate other places. Unsanitary brains filled with stupidity are spreading their disease and at a certain point we may just need to purge it with fire. Metaphorical brain fire.

Related to that, CIG has just announced their next JPEG. It's called the Metaphorical Brain Fire. It punches above its weight, has high fidelity, and will be implemented in game in 20142015 2016 2018 2019 2021 Any Day Now. Only $20,000 USD
