You have to ask Myobi he is veteran of SC.

As for my opinion. Currently it is still pretty much alpha fun alpha but still alpha. Worth buying ? No. Worth trying it for free. Yes just to see what it is about.

If they would stop production, fix 95% of bugs, flesh out systems they already have it it would already be pretty good game.

Imho the best part of SC is the whole first person everything approach. I was in only ships camp for few years but as systems get fleshed out and come online you realize that being ship instead of dude is infinitely less fun as the process could be as fun as the thing itself. Good example of it is needs system. Yeah sure they could just ignore it but being stranded somewhere without food is also gameplay on itself and i experienced actually being stranded, my ship blew up as some jackass destroyed it and was only in ROC land vehicle full of mined cargo that was extreamly profitable. Nearest land station was about hour (real time) away from me and i was already thirsty. So normal game you would just drive as fast as you could you vehicle wouldn't need to care much about terrain and you had all the time. In my case i had to drive fast but not as fast to crash or unsettle ROC. Literally 40 minutes of sweat inducing race with time. That is the kind of thing this game tries to achieve. At least tries to.

You fucking bet! Around 3 or 4 of the most painful hours of my life.

On all seriousness, wait for a free flight event to know if you like it, but take a deep look into their business model to know if it's something you want to support.

I can sort of respect the "I'll take your money but it will be ready when it's ready.", but the issue is that's not what’s happening here, purposely or simply out of pure incompetence, Chris has been actively lying and misleading its own community for years, multiple release windows already got thrown around, some of them even with their own promotional campaigns, and still nothing.

Crowdfunding a project is one thing, actively trying to milk away weak-minded addicts with too much money on their wallets to finance your projects and your very expensive Hollywood-wannabe life style is another.

Speaking of which. Myobi will you be trying out it on free flight week ? Last time i remember game crashed completely after a while for you as you reported. Maybe this time your pentium 3 will be able to run it more.

Let's do a meet up, you will have new fuel for SC hate.

You mother fucker.... :( I'm using an AMD Ryzen 5 3600X & AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT, with 16GB ram, it's not much, but sure as fuck runs most recent games just fine without looking like a power point presentation like SC did.

Regardless, I’ll pass this time, last time I had plenty of time to spare, right now, sadly not so much, I really cba to put time and effort dealing with the frustrations of testing games in alpha/beta phases…. But I’ll tell you what, if they have one up during my vacation time, in the end of June, I might take that offer, it will be nice to have someone to clip trough the ground with.

It should run great now on this spec. I had really similar but 3600nonX and 6600XT and it run around 30fps. With 3.17 it should hit 40s to 50s in cities and above 60fps in ships and space.

Also it is not like you need days to play it. Just one evening is enough. I also don't have that much time.

Just make sure to close everything unrelated to Star Citizen because 16GB is still and likely always will be on the borderline for playability on Windows. You'll probably need a page file without more memory. 32GB is recommended and that's fine given that current gen consoles have 16GB with low level optimizations pushing it as hard as it can go. I have a feeling 32GB will be the new requirement for everything once this cross gen bullshit stops.

Don't get em wrong it'll be playable on 16 but it's a hell of a lot smoother at 32 and even a page file on the fastest NVMe drive you can find isn't faster than memory so there will be stutter.

A good evening that I won't get back, look, I'll think about the self-induced suffering proposal, but I make no promises.

16GB is fine. I had 16GB for a good while and difference when i moved to 32GB was mostly in those 0.1% lows as it just lowered hitching and stuttering a bit. Not by a huge margin but by a bit. The most important thing is an SSD.

With my 32GB the whole game in ram sits on 22GB.

Oh, I don't think creating NPC schedules is the problem here…

… but you know, when we are talking about NPCs shitting schedules, sheets physics, coffee shops, elevator panels, drink stirring mechanics, before having basic game loops in place, a fuck ton of features still missing, 1 incomplete solar system out of the hundred promised and the famous Jesus Tech that will supposedly all this shit actually work without servers imploding still nowhere to be seen, it just laughable.

I always make it a point to visit this thread yearly to catch up on the latest madness, but Perkel praising the game for managing a whopping 70FPS on a 3080 in an empty room with no actors is the sort of abyssal depths of spiraling insanity I was not prepared for

Coffe shop vendor AI for sc was work done by some new new they hired as form of training before he can be integrated into SQ42 AI team. The stuff they were talking about like bunks etc. is for first for SQ42 maybe later for SC down the line.

Most of CIG resources are focusing on SQ42 for as long as development was. Around 3/4 of people work on SQ42 stuff while rest are doing something in SC.

I still want to see SQ42. Although i would love for them to move all resources to SC.

It was comparison to what was. And ideed 3.17 is huge improvement.

Also it is not like SC isn't one of the best looking games around.

Getting every new developer working on trivial dumb shit for god knows how long to “learn the tools” sounds like a pretty shitty ass excuse made by a company that profits a fuck ton from bullshitting idiots, however, it sort of explains why after a decade and 500 million dollars in, they still couldn’t release a single player game while supposedly having most resources focused on it.
