I wonder how big it actually is. It looks huge in that picture. It doesn't give a good sense of scale. If the small lights are windows, then that opening at the nose looks like it could be big enough to be a hangar.

Some HUD gifs. Apparently it's very customizable:

You ready for some spaceship porn? Behold the Banu Merchantman:

View attachment 2905

And now my pledge total is up to $3500 between the Merchantman and the Khartu.

Couldnt go for the Banu. Going by the stats and lack of deeper info kept me off. It seems like an alternative to the Starfarer.
I know ill end up preferring one of the salvage or mining ships later on.

The hud looks nice, I think they mentioned allowing us to scale down the size so it shouldnt look over the top once we're playing.

I was on the road all day yesterday and missed the livestream, announcements, etc. Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday that exemplifies the American spirit—white people poisoning, burning, stabbing, shooting, raping, and pillaging brown people in order to steal their gold and land, then whitewashing the whole shebang into a fairytale that remains a treasured annual national event.

Shit, 33m... that's over 8 Project Eternities!

lol 3,500 dollars on a fucking video game someone get this man a brian exam

I probably do need a brain exam, but spending "too much" money on video games (practically speaking, spending any amount on a useless luxury is excessive) is the least of reasons why.

Kind of missed the discussion on this game. Is this pay to win or what? You basically buy superior ships with money?

Too lazy to read the whole thread.

You buy ships that have different functions or perform differently(not better) than the starting ship, at least that's the plan. Keep in mind that the whole ship-buying thing is just to help fund the game, after it is out the only way you'll be able to buy ships is with in-game money.

...and in-game money can be bought with real money. Either officially or otherwise. :)

Yes, Pledge Simulator 2014 is mostly a dick-measuring contest about who can pay Chris Roberts the most for pictures of CGI ship renders and things like decorations with his face on it, so far Blaine seems to think he is winning.
There might be a game coming out of all of this at the end, but since it is being mainly developed by an entirely new company with a new team on a new engine as a new IP led by a guy that really wanted to make movies for the last 10 years but failed as a movie producer in cooperation with the people who are responsible for titles like Doritos Crash Course 2, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Naughty Bear 2 (when they are trying) and various Transformers movie tie-ins and seems to have a really shady monetization scheme going on that seems to be far worse than the newly released Forza 5, nobody knows if it will be any good.

Note that Dexter has been returning to this thread on a near-weekly basis for thirteen months straight to shitpost and spin-doctor as hard as humanly possible. I'd take any statements made by such a clearly biased and unhealthily obsessed individual with a grain of salt, not to mention the clown brigade of functionally illiterate shitposters who religiously brofist each other for their "witticisms." Normally I'd simply scroll past the tomfoolery, but the week's Thanksgiving festivities have wound me up.

Chris' movie biz career was indeed lackluster (and that's an understatement) from what I know of it, which isn't much, but that really doesn't bother me because: 1.) he's not a movie director (I personally never expected him to be, nor did I expect WC cinematics to be Oscar-worthy), and 2.) it's not easy to get an "in" to mainstream Hollywood. If you were afforded the opportunity to work with some hacks and sock away a few million working in the wings on mediocre flicks, you'd take it—that's not even a question. You'd do it.

I'd sure like to see a few movies directed by some of the Codex darling developers, in a world where we use disingenuous, irrelevant bullshit as a way to make baseless assumptions about a computer game that's already shaping up to be amazing. Literally none of the material released so far vis a vis Star Citizen (ship models, music, Hangar Module, HUD previews, trailers, etc.) have been anything less than impressive, which is probably why shitposters resort to "he worked on a bad movie once" et al., but the presence of pledge ships will no doubt continue to generate butthurt at least until the dogfighting alpha.

We'll see in a month or two when the Dogfighting Module arrives. If I'm blown away by it, be assured my smugness will practically emanate from your computer monitors and it will be intolerable to those of you desperately hoping the game will fail. I predict my name popping up on about three or four ignore lists come the end of December.

Note that Blaine has been returning to this thread on a near-daily basis for as long as it exists to mostly post pictures of spaceships and spin-doctor as hard as humanly possible. I’d take any statements made by such a clearly biased and unhealthily obsessed individual (who on top of all according to his own testament has already stuck over $3500 into imaginary ships for a game that doesn’t exist yet) with a grain of salt, not to mention the clown brigade of barely literate shitposters posting pictures of Roberts throwing money around who religiously brofist each other whenever they compare how deep inside Chris Roberts rectum they are momentarily situated. Normally I’d simply scroll past the idiocy, but I can’t really let a chance elapse to wind up Blaine some more.

I’m not sure why directing movies is so awfully important for game developers that someone would want more of them to take the plunge, but in a world where we use only carefully prepared PR statements chewed up for fanatics to make potentially baseless assumptions about a computer game that’s so far only produced a “hangar module” where you can walk around a room and inspect a spaceship and a Microtransaction store to go with it that apparently makes sense. Literally nothing that could possibly indicate the final quality of the game so far vis-à-vis Star Citizen other than PR material has been released, which is probably why said fanatics resort to “he made some good games about two decades ago” to affirm their belief, but the presence of one of the most fucked up Pay2Win payment models (sending all the wrong signals to the entirety of the gaming industry of people willing to spend thousands upon thousands of dollars for virtual goods in a game that hasn’t even materialized yet) in any game outside of China will no doubt continue to generate valid criticism long after the game has been launched.

We’ll see in two to three years if even half of the features promised so far will materialize and if the ones available will turn out any good, as well as what amazing money-making concoctions people will continuously fall for as more and more of the game gets released. And we will have a bunch of general questions answered in regards to the amount of money people in Western nations are willing to spend for ethereal in-game goods, how many other games including those from big publishers and other independent developers will take the plunge and try to adopt such a model exploiting said people to the maximum of their ability while making less and less games without such and how many months of grinding those that “have 40 hours a week to spend gaming” as Roberts so tenderly calls them will have to spend to produce ships that others have spent thousands of real world dollars on.

I'm probably getting some bonus at the end of the year, finally I can throw some money at Chris. Blaine will there be (or there is already) some kind of sale, when I can make a good purchase?

The sale that ran from Tuesday before last until this past Tuesday is over and done with. There likely will be additional livestream/sale events at some point in the future. There may be one for Christmas, or it may be two to four months down the road.

For the time being, there's nothing wrong with a basic pledge offering an Aurora, digital downloads of all game modules, and alpha and beta access. Personally, I'd recommend the 315p package or the Avenger package. If you want to buy something different during a future sale (for example), you can exchange your current pledge(s) for store credit and put that credit towards something different.

On a largely unrelated note, my current ship collection stands at:

  • Origin M50 (interceptor/racer)
  • F7C-S Stealth Hornet (stealth fighter)
  • F7C-M Super Hornet (attack fighter)
  • Captured Vanduul Scythe (fighter/raider)
  • Xi'an Khartu (scouting/exploration)
  • RSI Constellation (freighter/space superiority)
  • MISC Starfarer (tanker/freighter)
  • Banu Merchantman (merchant clipper)
  • Drake Caterpillar (space rapist)
  • Anvil Gladiator (bomber)
  • Aegis Dynamics Retaliator (heavy bomber)
  • Idris Corvette (small capital ship)

So it is pay2win basically. That's unfortunate, game looks good.
