Umm, is this a space ship? Because it looks more like futuristic fighterjet.

Regardless of the state of Arena Commander, the developers have handled it admirably and transparently.

  • We were informed well in advance that the DFM wouldn't be ready by its initial date of December 2013.
  • Subsequently, it was made clear that delays should be expected and would continue to occur.
  • CIG have set tentative release dates for the DFM since then, since that's what people want, despite knowing that missing them would lead to backlashes.
  • Having missed the date in this case, they've explained why, have provided a bug list, and are keeping us apprised with frequent updates.
In short, they're being as transparent as possible, like this beautifully scuff-marked Hornet cockpit canopy:

Just look at those scuff marks. Mmmmm.

The game now has 7x its initial budget. It's going to take longer to produce, plain and simple. Wasteland 2 has already been delayed well past its projected dates, inXile are far less transparent about why, and it's a safe bet T:ToN and PoE will follow suit soon enough.

The problem here is, that every time they receive a big chunk of budget raise, the want to put new stuff in, so it goes on forever, also the dogfight was pretty disappointing for me, since you all i saw is chris fighting a HUD/UI ICON, while in Elite is was more like freelancer, fighting ships that are very close, but to be honest i haven't seen enough, i still have hope tho:) But when i see the updates, each time, "hey we made a new ship, buy it!" its makes me puke...

Greetings Citizens,
AC_300i_cockpit.jpg

The news today is positive! We’re pleased to report that we believe tonight’s internal Release Candidate resolves all of the bugs (pending testing) you read about last night, including the two critical “show stopper” issues. Arena Commander V.8 is looking more stable than before, and hopefully additional testing on this new build will not uncover more blocking issues.

What happens next? The Arena Commander team will be working through the weekend to test this build, and fix any issues as they are found. Next week, we will have another “go/no-go” meeting with the worldwide development teams. Our next update will be on Monday and we will continue to update you on any issues and their impact to the schedule then.

Even if tonight’s build is the one you end up playing, it needs to be put through its paces by QA to ensure that we haven’t introduced any new issues. We have team members from around the company scheduled to playtest this weekend in order to verify the integrity of the build.

Meanwhile, we’ve seen posts from some backers wondering why they’ve only seen images of the Hornet in Arena Commander. To put that to rest, Zane has captured images of all three ships in action! These are unaltered screenshots, taken within the game itself (from a camera in back of the character head.) We’re very proud of how this game is looking!

The team has also put together a short teaser showing some of what you’ll be playing soon. This, again, is 100% in-game footage. You’re looking at Arena Commander’s AI battling each other in real time! Check it out below.

Looks like they finally managed to release the DFM because I'm downloading it now (10,5 GB).
And there is also a launch trailer:

Sorry folks, they forgot the maps. Hotfix incoming. :troll:

Not that you're likely to get in anytime soon anyway.

I'm flying around in a Hornet for the first time. It's... fucking fantastic, much better (and smoother, though I have a powerful rig) than I was expecting. Believe it or not, I was prepared for the worst. This is still an alpha, after all. The way it feels to pilot ships in Star Citizen is actually fairly traditional. Think of FreeSpace 2, or even the original Wing Commander series, and you'll be pretty close to the mark. There's more complexity available in SC, though, and more to be added later. Couldn't be happier with the flight model.

The weapons are very satisfying to use and look and sound cool as Hell, much better than the placeholders way back in 2012.

I expected this alpha UI to be obnoxious, but it's actually completely fine other than perhaps the systems control menu. It has some really interesting features, too, and lots of aesthetically pleasing bits. I expect they'll polish it more, but it's functional even if they don't.

There'll be a HQ video up soon, plenty of them actually. Videos can't do it justice, though.

Could you describe your rig? Just to have something I can compare mine.
