Gee whizz are there more actual good items in the game like this?

I'm just up to the volcano area and so far I think I'd swap my party around a bit next time.

I've got a Battle Cleric, Fighter Commander, Lore Bard, and a Ranger.

I wanted to import a party so finished the original campaign. I have the Unfinished Business mode installed and my party was level 15 and it wouldn't let me import the save. I found the issue - the players have to be level 12 or lower. Thankfully, the same mod lets you redo characters, so tonight I start this expansion in earnest.

Anyone know if a any Neverwinter Night style persistent servers are planned for this game? Or Baldur's Gate 3? Rogue Trader? Anything down the road?
I was having a similar issue with the Import Feature - the solution I found had nothing to do with the party level, however, but with the way Unfinished Business sorts the saves by campaign. Even if you disable the option to sort by adventure, any created save will still be inside a dedicated folder.

I simply copied the Crown of the Magister save files to the root of the save data location and it imported fine - but there was a patch that forced every character beyond level 12 back to it.

Most weapon types have the option of a +2 enchantment or a +1 enchantment with an extra die of another damage type.

I seem to be picking up +3 weapons pretty commonly in the latest DLC, so they're certainly a bit more generous with the loot than in the base game.

Man, I really wish I saw this before releveling my party. This expansion is pretty great so far.

Just finished the Crown of the magister campaign MVP has to be the battle cleric and the fighter cleric banishing 2 guys every fight just made it trivial and the fighter getting 6 attacks first round was really good.

I'll roll a new party to go through the game again but this time I'll take 2 fighters a blaster wizard and a battle cleric.

And I'll focus on the factions that actually give you important items the crafting and strength belt factions. Didn't even unlock their stuff.

You could also have used the menu to level up characters. That won't give you an inventory full of items though.

Try a Lowlife Ranger as a ranged powerhouse who can also pick locks, it's insanely fun and Hunter's Mark is broken.

I went back to my first party and am doing the DLC. My first party is Battle Cleric, Fighter, Marksman and Lore Bard.

I don't use the Hunters mark at all now because she gets an extra attack for a bonus action so it interferes with the hunters mark. Meanwhile my fighter gives everyone attack advantage + false life every turn and can use adrenalin rush to do 6 attacks in one round.

That said my ranger is still good not as good as the fighter but sometimes in some fights spike growth can kill loads of guys.

Finished up the Palace of Ice. Really reminded me of WotR for some reason for the main goal of the game.

At the end of the game my ranger basically one turned the big bad. You get 3rd attack at level 15 so with the extra action you always have 4 shots. Also there was a really nice upgrade for the stormbow.

The endgame dungeon they don't let you rest so you have to rely on your martials more... But I had a ton of scrolls and consumables so didn't really matter. Oh the area gives you a debuff so my AB is actually 21.

I've just finished Palace of Ice.

It's a dorf-centeric campaign, so perhaps my perception is skewed, but I enjoyed it far more then Crown and Valley.
And if there is one character with half-decent face in Solasta, it's Vigdis.

Even though TA has listened to all the feedback and made the final boss fight harder, the overall scale and difficulty feels lower.
But I played on Scavenger, not Cataclysm.

Each area only has 2-3 encounters, so most of the time you don't have to conserve your powers.
The game even forces you to have a long rest pretty often just to make sure you'll be well prepared for the next battle.

The only exception is the final dungeon, where you have to fight 6 (gasp) times without taking a long rest.
But it's very front loaded, the hardest part turned out to be the first one.

The most annoying part is over reliance on gear attunement.
Everything - every-fucking-thing! - required attunement.

The level cap 16 is more than the game really needs.
Past level 12 I alreay had everything I wanted, so could take stuff that was just fun or nice to have.
The most useful feat of all Solasta turned out to be the one that allowed my wizard to automatically identify all items in her bags.

The ending can be bittersweet and it's a good thing too.

I agree with pretty much everything you said, Nortar. Figured Vigdis would play a longer role but she falls by the wayside after the beginning sequence. I'd rather they hinted at the ending choice in some vague way prior to it but its alright. Still wanting the final big bad flying boss to be in the dungeon maker but unless he's put in the next patch or two, its not going to happen.

Patch 1.5.94 & Solasta Final Dev Stream (July 26th)
Heya everyone,

As you all know, we announced that Palace of Ice would be our last DLC. The final page in Solasta: Crown of the Magister's book. The dot at the bottom of the... okay I think everyone got the picture? Yea? Moving on!

The team has been slowly but surely shifting towards our next project these last few weeks, and you will probably not hear much from us in the coming months as we work on the foundations of our next game. It's a bit too early to talk about it, but we're sure you'll love it.

Before we go dark though, we'll be hosting one final Dev Stream at our office with some team members to take a trip down memory lane, looking back at Solasta and everything we worked on for the last... what, has it been 4 years already since we announced it? If you too want to hang around and share what you love about the game, we'll be delighted to have you at
https://www.twitch.tv/tacticaladventures/
. Make sure you follow the channel to not miss it, the stream will start
Wednesday July 26th at 7:30am PDT / 10:30am EDT / 4:30pm CEST and will be around 2h30 long!

1.5.94 Changelog
  • Fixed Flying being properly borked since last patch. Our devs dev'd something too hard and broke it, I gather.
  • Fixed a bug that could make a certain NPC's max HP be set to 0 if you saved and loaded during combat, making them not quite dead but not quite alive either. Is that what being an undead feels like?
  • Fixed swapping weapons after triggering Sorak's Bane (Tirmar Paladin) causing quite a few internal errors. Also, the extra attack should now properly apply all the extra damage modifiers (instead of just the base weapon's damage).
  • Fixed Hoodlum Rogue Dirty Fighting's DC using CON mod. instead of STR mod.
  • NPCs who died during Act 2 of Palace of Ice should no longer appear in Act 3. Because they're dead. Sorry the DM wasn't taking notes, managing all these NPCs is not that easy.
  • Fixed the Marilith's Constriction DC being set to 100 instead of 19. Unfair? How about you stop metaming, next time I'll set it to 200.
  • Fixed Shield of Fortitude using Brightwall's icon instead of the proper +3 Shield icon.
  • Fixed using a Gem of Seeing not being seen as a valid use of True Seeing in Garrad's Castle.
  • Fixed Temp HP not being updated correctly if a character takes damage but enough to remove all Temp HP in one go. Oy, stop looking at your phone and update your character sheet.
  • Fixed Tundra Tigers not being immune to the harsh weather of the mountains they live in. Huh, no wonder there were so few of them, couldn't be easy catching prey while half frozen to death!
  • Fixed a weird bug during the Elven Settlement portion of Palace of Ice where trying to save the Elder correctly would spawn him outside the map, immediately killing him. Damn, this is some Steins;Gate level shit, poor guy just can't stay alive in this timeline.
  • Fixed a very old bug in Dark Castle (CotM) where the person answering to Lizzaria would be the one with the lowest skill bonus. Hey sometimes a player wants to talk even if his Persuasion bonus is garbo.
  • Fixed The Burden Poison tooltip showing that it would apply Anathema instead of Restrained (wat).
  • Fixed the weapon summoned by Divine Blade (Cleric) being tagged as a Martial Weapon, making it... completely unusable by Clerics. Yea. That was a little awkward.
  • Daneel Colwall should no longer have a doppleganger inside Garrad Castle. Worse Sorak Infiltrator ever, that guy.
  • Helga should no longer appear if you return to her location later after leaving without saving her. Because she died. You monster.
  • Animal Friendship should no longer give the target advantage on their Saving Throw, since RAW there isn't anything stating that (unlike Charm Person)
  • Fixed Gauntlets to stop preventing the user from casting Somatic spells. I mean if a fully armored Paladin can cast Somatic spell, so should a Monk using Gauntlets.
  • Fixed Step Back (Marksman Ranger) not providing advantage to the user if they use Crossbows.
  • Fixed Song of Hope (Hope Bard) resistances being incorrectly bypassed by magical weapons.
  • Fixed Palace of Ice Act 3 Loading Screen using the wrong artwork.
  • Magic Quarterstaves can now be dual-wielded as they are versatile weapons. Even if it looks silly.
  • Fixed Terror and Abomination Quest sometimes not correctly dropping the quest item.
  • Fixed an error that would occur if Fly / Levitate was cast on a character right as they are about to jump.
  • Fixed a blocker that could occur in the Crystal Mine if the party used Dimension Door to bypass the combat trigger area. Damn it, and right after we fixed the bug with stealth.
  • Fixed hostile auras still being active while the target is banished.
  • Feeblemind should now properly lower the target's saving throws bonus as well.
  • Fixed a very specific bug where learning Darkness as a Tiefling Warlock would prevent them from unlearning it later on as Tiefling also get access to the spell through racial feature.
  • Fixed Anathema (Law Cleric) just going poof at level 14 and completely disappearing from their power list.
  • Fixed Thieves' Tools tooltip incorrectly stating that characters are not proficient even when they are. But I thought you said your thievering days are over, my good rogue?
  • Fixed Protection from Good and Evil not preventing the Incubus' Demonic Influence possession.
  • Fixed the dragons not joining the fight to help Kallista Prasigon if you attack her. You're on your own, buddy!
  • Fixed a bug that was introduced last patch where talking ot the ghost in front of the Hag's Hut would immediately fail the quest. Turns out the poor hag has crippling anxiety and just seeing people talk in front of her house makes her lock herself up in hope that they go away.
  • Fixed not being locked to the Northern locations after starting the Northern Clans questline.
  • Fixed a bug that would prevent the quest Ice Trap from updating if the party avoided the Snow Tigers.
  • Fixed Arcane Shock not properly working if the Wizard succeed their saving throw when using the feature.
  • Fixed some more missing text in ZH / RU bestiary
  • Fixed a few NPCs missing from the big fight at the end of Act 2 of Palace of Ice.
  • Fixed an Xbox crash that could occur when moving around the Blueprint map.
  • Fixed an Xbox bug where A would no longer work if the user did a certain combination of inputs while on the Blueprint Map.

There is a text-box at the end of the survey for writing comments, and I highly recommend that every Codexer inform Tactical Adventures of its poor understanding of the meaning of the RPG genre. +M

I pleaded with them to focus less on superfluous cinematic aspects, animated custscenes and full voice acting, since those two things took resources away from refining the underlying game systems. I expect my plea to go unanswered.

Even aside from the RPG definitions and anything else that might be mentioned in the text box, the poll questions can be used to direct Tactical Adventures away from a linear structure (#1), away from Bioware-esque companions rather than player-created party members (#2), away from voice-acting in favor of a larger quantity of dialogue (#5), away from Oblivion-style quest markers (#6), and towards greater exploration (#7).

A lengthy video TA made here on twitch as a sendoff regarding Solasta: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1882162702

There was a portion about why the faces turned out to be the way they did at 2:22:12 in the vid. Short story shorter: Whatever tool they made to make faces was assumed to be okay, in practice it was not. Too late to fix the tool.

I gave my survey feedback. Basically said to make a similar game but better foundation and focus on a dungeon maker and modding. I hope they don't go the direction of making one custom hero with a dev set party. Even if their improvements are leaps and bounds better than Solasta is, I prefer full party creation. Better to lean into the differences for the sake of a niche than to compete on a level in which you will be outgunned. No idea what they have in mind but my best guess is Solasta 2, similar structure, almost a soft-reboot, with improvements across the board. If they do lean into custom content, I don't know how they intend on monetizing it all.

I wouldn't be surprised that it's facial animation related. All their faces have a very similarly potato shape, and their cinematic focus placed a lot of stress on good (and many) facial animations.

An example of this are tools to automate lip movement based on sound. It's possible that their chosen tool didn't have an easy way to setup multiple facial structures, so that's why they had to make a common potato shape that allowed every face to use the same rigging. The alternative probably meant that faces looked like they were melting while talking.
