It's already obvious the game is completely on rails and every action is you pressing a triangle to trigger some canned shit to proceed.

No free jumping, no challenging platforming, no exploration. Just a walking sim with a cat. Yawn

Yeah, it kinda looks that way. Which sucks, because I'm liking the vibe and art direction here. Playing as a relatively small, relatively defenseless creature in a futuristic, dystopian (?) setting could make for some really cool scenarios and gameplay mechanics, but this doesn't look to be it.

Indie game starring the pet of choice of your average lefty neckbeard effeminate game journo, and wouldn't you know it? Deep into the 85-100% range from the usual suspects on reviews. Its a mediocre (at best) on rails walking simulator starring a cat but its a CAT and its so indie and hip so you know what that means, right?

BEHEAD all those who insult cats. Are you a black? That would explain it.

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
The most cringe-worthy part I noticed is right at the start; you start on a rain-sheltering platform with three cat-bros, and you must interact with each cat to get them to lie down on the piece of cardboard so that you all sleep off the rain.

And each interaction is a typical 'playful cats are playful'-animation that YT is chock-full of. Lying on the side playing with the other cat's tail, rubbing up against the other cat while licking their face, etc. Putting these 'OMG SO CUTEZ!" things right at the start of the game demonstrates just how weighted the game's content is towards gaming journalists.

Soon you're separated from your catbros and must find a way to reunite with them... but the ProCatonist is easily distracted and soon ends up doing other things.

And the ending is abrupt and leaves things unresolved open for a sequel/DLC... and my money is on the latter.

I assumed this would be like a very open ended game where you explore a city and look for cool stuff to do or something... what happened?

Almost every russian household has a cat. The further west you go, the lower cat ownership rate is. A neckbeard would probably like the image of a cat, not necessarily looking after one. But of course they could, as animals love indiscriminately.

If this game was based on the character of my cat it would be a turn-based strategy, where you have to make up a plan about how to enslave all humans, destroy all furniture and beat a shit from every evil hand.

*examines game*

...

It's a 6-hour walking simulator. :/
You want gameplay in your games? Must be one of those pixel-facists I keep hearing about, one of those no good thugs harassing female game journalists on street corners when you're not meanspreading your toxic masculinity all over the soylets in the tube to the gym or using your Gamergate terror cells to start insurrections in the American capital.

Fun fact regarding that 1000sq km part, that most of users will probably know, but maybe some of you dont: many open world games used to be confined to a 8x8km2 area due to the fact there was not enough space in a 32bit variable to contain the exact position of a thing that would be further than that from the center of the map. One could try to creatively circumvent that, but often they did not.

So for example in Death Stranding both main maps are exactly that size, and they employ different strategies to "hide" that and seem bigger than they are. The first one(iceland) has you travel across the map, from corner to corner, as this is the longest route you can take; the second one forces you to travel in a circle, around the mountain pass in the center.

My gf bought this game, she likes it so far (30 mins in), I watched her play and I have concerns that it's not that interesting as for example SOMA or some shit :( I hope it turns out ok, because it's not cheap.
