Player is given a choice, one can even attempt to kill the NPC who levels up the protagonist.
There's even an adult-content ON/OFF option to play as an all-ages JRPG if one wishes so AND/OR holding CTRL key to skip off-putting text.

It's plagued with the same bs any other rpg maker game is...

A matter of mindset when it comes to RPG Maker/doujin type of games.

I'm all good with SNES-era graphic assets.
As long as the gameplay loop/story/writing piques my interest, will continue to play further.

There are a few inklings to discern the more effort/passionate/soulful ones, from the vast sea of such games/eroges.
Not-default/custom UI, combat mechanics, monster designs AND/OR sound assets.

CG assets (even animated ones) & VA presence are unreliable indicators.

If none holds your interest after trying several of such, best to ignore this 'genre' going forward.

That's a follow up to his earlier game, Age of Barbarian. I kind of admire the guy, his games are the epitome of jank. He himself is in this weird place where he has a solid eye for level design, atmosphere and has a few other pretty good ideas, but his aesthetic sense is almost non-existent. Which in turn makes his games look cheap, from the logos down to the sprites. The only thing that makes it sort of work is the consistent style. The gameplay is also almost passable, sometimes even almost good, but it constantly stumbles. It's clearly a labour of love and it feels like a game equivalent of those old Conan knock offs, so I can't really complain that much.

Apart from that he's making a game inspired by Heavy Metal, the heroine even looks like Julie. This time he went for a different style, still not particularly attractive, but at least he's evolving, good for him.

Honestly, either they are getting paid by the owners of real porn platforms or direct competitors like Steam. And as much as I hate DMM for their awful DRM and shitty practices, at least they have the back of Japanese consumers while the other stores are just bending over to a ridiculous degree. DLsite renaming tags and censoring titles is the height of being pathetic. And for what? Chasing the American money with their vast library that is lacking because they never tried to court professional developers to release their games there as well. Meanwhile, Steam has proper Japanese companies like Koei, Sega, Capcom etc AND the smut games. Heck, even GOG has the Yakuza series DRM-free. Yet DLsite completely fails. I talked with a DLsite employee some years ago and they had never even considered talking with Koei and such. I would definitely pay a pretty penny to get their games DRM-free but I don't see it ever happening.

Would be nice if the men making it are not complete cucks too. Funny how one of the better porn games i've played was made allegedly by a wombyn. And even degen shit (which mostly borders on vanilla) there is pretty much player choice driven. Story is pretty fun, hell, she even added simple mma tournament minigame into it.
