Dark Souls isn't a game about grinding, its about learning and adapting. If you struggle to get to a boss, formulate a strategy for the journey. Every time you die and have to slog through a section again, you're picking up bits and pieces of tricks that will enable you to maximize your runs. Same goes with bosses; you learn their 'tells', their phases, positioning, etc. all from just fighting through them. And once you're comfortable with your grasp on them, its a matter of execution. I understand you getting frustrated at dying and repeating ed nauseam, but if you aren't learning something with each death then it unfortunately is a failure on your end.

Also for your technical complaints, there's a camera option that fixes the "going behind stuff" problem I believe. And I'd recommend an Xbone controller, since I love the shit out of them and they are pretty much just a better 360 controller. Plus no D-Pad issues.

It's fine that you don't enjoy the game, but as others have bluntly pointed out you aren't the greatest Souls player. Which is okay, cuz they just video games u feel me fam

I should have realized I was talking to an imbecile.
I'm not sure what 'similar' games you're referring to, but I've looked around and found that many people who played the game shared my sentiment. Even those who enjoyed the game are saying that it is quite difficult, but that you just need to buckle down and 'git gud'. Or are you going to try and tell me with a straight face that a game with the tagline 'Prepare to die' doesn't intend for you to die over and over again?
Dying doesn't mean it's difficult you dolt.
Some similar games that are surely harder at the beginning - Gothic: NotR, compared to it you can explore the world in DS in a wheelchair and still fare better.
Blade of Darkness - you aren't allowed to die and go back where you came from and continue playing as if nothing happened, meaning the challenge is much greater because the difficulty lies in the moment to moment challenges instead of persistence.
I suck at playing Dark Souls. That's one game. What other games do you think I suck at?
I think you suck at every game there is because you're a retarded child.
You've reached that conclusion as the result of an unsupported premise (ie. that I suck at playing games). Either you have some amazing psychic knowledge of all the games I have played in the past (and my performance in each), or you are using Dark Souls as your only point of reference (which is essentially circular logic).
I reached that conclusion because you are so damaged in the head that you quit DS because it's too difficult for you.
So by your own admission I've spent enough time on it to comment? Thanks.
What a fucking drooling retard. Much logic in your argument, you must be getting super high grades from your kindergarten teacher.

Cadmus, stop carrying yourself like a twelve year old. Unless you are one... which is probably the case.

If you're trying Dark Souls as your first game in the series and finding it excessively difficult, I'd suggest trying Demon's Souls instead, assuming you have a PS3, and selecting Royal as your starting class. Level 1-1 of Demon's Souls acts an extended tutorial, with you unable to select another level or upgrade your stats before killing the boss monster. Thus, grinding is not only unnecessary but not really even possible (there are only a handful of items for sale at this point), and by the time you finish 1-1 you should have a decent grasp of the mechanics, including blocking and dodging. As with the other games, starting class makes virtually no difference in the long run. However, the Royal class is one of two to begin with a magic spell, and additionally starts with the fragrant ring that replenishes magicka, slowly enough not to be worthwhile later in the game but extremely helpful early.

You sound angry, Cadmus. I'm not sure why my disliking a video game makes you so vitriolic.

Dying doesn't mean it's difficult you dolt.

 So a game designer doesn't intend for a game to be difficult when the very purpose is for the player to die (ie. fail) over and over again?

Some similar games that are surely harder at the beginning - Gothic: NotR,

I disagree. But even then, the difficulty is mitigated by a 'save anywhere' feature.

I think you suck at every game there is because you're a retarded child.

Since you haven't put forward any evidence that you know what games I've played, and my performance in each, you're not really 'qualified to provide criticism'.

Much logic in your argument

It's a shame you can't use logic in your own.

Naga, please, since I started ~7 months ago I've only missed about two workout days when I had a stomach virus and couldn't keep any food down.

I started playing this today, since I am stuck in bed with fever for a week (yay?). The combat system is both clunky and impressive. Reminds me of Gothic/Risen somewhat. I went for a brute force battle axe + shield approach. Seeems to be working so far, although the first armored opponent I met (some kind of knight in Undead Burg) seemed unimpressed and killed me easily. Also, those fucking spearmen - so not cool.

BTW, LoL @ Steam build being a beta after almost a year.

That knight that's under the stairs with flame bombs, or that knight in black armor?

Or just wait till they attack, block, and counter while they're staggered. Spearmen are an excellent retard detector, as they punish you for attacking blindly.

The guy in black armor is to be fought with either backstabs or parries, while the spear dudes you gotta either tank their attacks with your shield or parry and riposte.

Thanks for the tips.

I meant the knight below the stairs.

I know the parry+riposte theory, but I kind of suck at this, at least for now. My method for spearmen at the moment is circle-strafing them or just beating away at their shields until they die. I will try kicking next time.

I am playing with a X360 controller, which is part of the problem since my gamepad experience is limited to Prince of Persia games and I keep accidentally pressing X to attack. I will get used to different controls soon enough (I hope).

I have also decided to try streaming the game in hope of real-time hints (no voiced commentary since my throat hurts when I try to speak). Today I got two hints and one invasion for my efforts, so it kind of worked (?). I will try again tomorrow morning -> here.

I've been messing around with DS again after a long break. Will watch your twitch or in-game via Steam. Send me a Steam message if you want help on a boss.

Fake/real edit: Will watch via Steam since Twitch requires a Facebook account to use chat?
