Seriously tho, I don't know what to say. Did you go to school? Did they teach you how to interpret poems and prose?

Is it really that hard to look at certain bosses and try to fucking make sense out of them and find joy in the fights? Does everything have to be fucking monkey resistance contest?

So your friend beat a boss on first try and moved on, and your whole evaluation is based on how many tries it takes to beat a boss. You disgust me.

Pursuer was fine in the early game I think. Other than that I agree, bosses were mostly kinda boring.

pinwheel is really the easiest boss in the whole series. On my way to this bitch seath. I reached the tomb of giants and side tracked.

- You find Solaire there, and he has some very interesting interactions.
- To save Solaire, you'll have to have done something with a certain covenant. No where else in the game have covenants been a big part of the storyline.
It's also possible to
save Solaire by killing the sunlight maggot even with the wall blocking you (certain spells and weapons will pass through it), although this requires metaknowledge of the game as the player would never have a reason to try this without knowing about it.

on my way to fighting artorias, wish me luck.

edit: Beat artorias in only three tries compared to the 20+ and multiple summon try in my first playthrough. Whoever told me about Zweihander, thank you, I upgraded it to +13 and it staggers artorias in 2 hits. It stopped his buff and all that shit. Even with a shitty controller, I barely had to use estus flasks on the third try too.

Now, hopefully kalameet and seath can be this easy.

Yes, it works with
the poison/toxic mist pyromancies (which I've used) and according to the wiki also with the sorceries White Dragon Breath and Dark Fog. The special Red-Eyed Chaos Bug that drops the sunlight maggot yields more souls than the other Chaos Bugs, letting you know that you've killed it through the wall.

Yo guise, a brand new uber fan of DS here. I had seen a couple of YTubers play the game, enjoyed the LPs but I've always thought "Lol I'm never gonna play this fucking game".

A few days ago I said fuck it, let's try DS1 for a bit. I was sure I'd quit within an hour, when my notoriously thin patience wears down. Well, can't stop playing the game since.

I'm almost done, missing just the Catacombs and whatever is behind that. Game's amazing beyond words but throughout the entire playthrough I couldn't stop shaking my head - How the FUCK is a solitary dude, playing offline, not checking the net, supposed to figure out most of the secrets? I always looked at wiki after completing an area and jesus christ I always miss a good chunk of the content.

Like the illusory walls? Is this a pure unadulterated bullshit or what? Yesterday I found out there are TWO fucking HUGE areas beyond Blighttown that, I assume, could be discovered only by a sheer accident. And right now I was checking if I can summon someone for Manus and apparently there's a fake wall in a completely random place and the summon is behind it. Jesus. Why not toss a few lore hints now and then? Are we really suppose to constantly explore, quitting and loading and checking what's new or changed in each location?

Plus some of the NPC "quests" are the most convoluted and cryptic things I've ever seen in a game. I've lost track of the Onion dude in Sen's, never found him again. I don't even wanna know what's that all about. And I'd give my left nut to someone who'd explain to me how exactly did people figure out the way to save Solaire. Holy mama.

My conclusion is From Soft is staffed by people who are the craziest motherfucker in the industry. But also geniuses. (At least when it comes to DS1, I've seen some comments DS2 is a decline. Haven't ready anything about DS3 yet).

it's not :) everybody discovering shit together (hence the messages and phantoms and shit :P) is one of the cool things about the series

i think that one is kind of hard to miss. that particular part of the wall really sticks out like a sore thumb. but yeah, some illusory walls are kinda bullshit, although once you know they exist/are a possibility, you can swing your weapon at some educated guesses and you'll likely find the majority of them.

what do you mean? there's enough dialogue to get a general hint of it all, and the item descriptions tell quite a bit of the backstory. plus, sometimes it's the location of certain items that can be significant hints etc...

how exactly is Onionbro convoluted, except for the "act" at Izalith which definitely requires some knowledge beforehand? i mean, you just have to exhaust all his dialogue and he'll appear (along with his daughter) in relatively obvious places along your playroute

DaS2 vanilla is definitely decline, although overblown by how much (the sense of discovery and exploration is really stiffled compared to DaS1 because of the lack of pretty much any shortcut whatsoever, and even less connecting areas, as the whole world is just a sequence of pretty linear, horizontal levels). the 3 DLCs, on the other hand, are definitely worth the price of admission and are at least on par with the best of DaS1

Yeah, the game is designed to take advantage of all the hints left around by the players. Plus, i think they expected you to finish it multiple times.

That said, some stuff was just too much. And by some stuff i mean Solaire. There's simply no way to figure out how to save him without spoilers.

Thing is I hate spoilers so when I saw on YT all those messages lying around I swore to go completely blind on my first playthrough. Now it's dawning on me many secrets are supposed to be solved as a community effort. Interesting design, kindda self-defeating though since all the stuff you ARE supposed to figure out on your own is gonna get spoiled for you too since people blab out everything.

By convoluted I meant the Solaire quest. I haven't read up on the Onion's one yet, I'm hoping I'll still meet him somewhere in the Catacombs or beyond so I don't wanna spoil. (Definitely missed him at Izalith tho, imma go look for him).

As for the lore, I didn't mean the general plot, characters and such, that's pretty good actually, I love the fact they don't spoonfeed you the whole thing. I meant things like "When descending through the shaft into the Chasm look for illusions" or some such, so players have a chance to discover that damn wall for the puppy summon. Yes, I'm very salty about that one in particular because Manos is absolutely ripping my asshole open so I was looking for some NPC help.

Btw I'm a pure sorcerer with little tanking potential; playing sorceret in this game was a constant cycle like this::dealwithit:, back and forth. Jesus Christ the amount of holy greef that Capra demon gave me!1! I did that longfuck run towards him for what, 30 times? Yeah, what a game :D

I'm inclined to agree about the NPC stories being obscure. You do need spoilers for them. Some of the illusory walls are obscure due to the assumption that you'll be reading messages from other players, DS2 also did some of that, and I found many hidden bonfires and illusory walls with the help of other players.

As for DS2, I don't think it declines per se, but it's definitely a very different game from DS1, in some aspects worse and in some aspects better. I think once you get into DS2 you'll have a lot of fun as you did with DS1 if you don't spend every minute trying to compare them both and determine that DS1 is better. Yes, overall DS1 is a more solid game, but DS2 is a solid experience also. Just go along with it naturally, you'll have fun. After you've gone through them you can start feeling frustrated about missed opportunities in DS2 (there are a few), but I don't think it's healthy to start it with the expectation that it'll be worse than DS1.

How did you even find the DLC? I've played through two times "blind", first offline and second online but without looking up too much stuff, and I would never have thought to look at that area again, it was completely empty everytime I explored it...
Now I'm at my third, non-blind because fuck that shit, and I finally get to play the DLC! :fuuyeah:

I googled it, obviously. Are you trying to say the information doesn't come from From Soft? Players had to find out themselves?!1!1! I...that's pretty insane. Imagine you buy the DLC for what, 20 bucks, but can't play it because noone has discovered how to get into it yet :lol:

Well, I got the Prepare to die edition on steam and it didnt come with any instructions afaik. But perhaps someone who played it back when it was first released could enlighten us.

As has been stated, the secret messages are there for that kind of stuff. DS2 takes this to a whole other level though. Definitely going to want to play online for that game. The DLC is just as hard to find in those games too.

I think they do a good job with secret areas and not spoonfeeding everything to you but sometimes they go too far.

Tough bosses. Manus much more than Kalameet though. Kalameet is kind of baby cakes after Manus. Took me a long time to beat Manus. Had to actually go back to Anor Londo and upgrade my shield to get max stability.

On another note, I bet my impression/appreciation of Kalameet would be about much higher had I not fought Sinh before.
