I also found out (or couldn't remember) that Patches betrays you not just in the Tomb but in the Catacombs as well by rotating the bridge.

Whoa this is complete unknown to me and i finished game like several times now. Probably because you went to catacombs first.

Curved swords in DS1 are bananas. The 2hR1s are probably the fastest non-dagger startup and highest melee DPS of anything in the Souls games, they cover like a 200 degree arc, they're very light, super short recovery before you can roll after an attack, etc. They also have like a 9 strength requirement so you never need to raise that a bit. The DS1 hand axe is also really another curved sword in disguise with strength scaling.

I also tried that route of going to catcombs first to get the rite of kindling to start the game, choose a deprived and also went for the astora straight sword and patches is right at the hidden bonfire, from there I went to New Londo to fight the 4 Kings and see the dialogue fron Kaathe where he tells you to get the Lordvessel. This is one of the reasons Dark Souls is still unmatched in freedom and level design where there is a somewhat "path" but knowing the game you can get completly new dialogue and encounters

Yeah, it's crazy why they haven't done it again. I don't understand. Maybe it takes too long or something. Not cost effetcive etc.

A small thing in DS1 that I appreciate is being able to feed items to the snake from your box. As in you don't need to put them in your inventory before talking to him. Wish you could do that in later games when selling junk.

I was all 'oh oh oh branching path FINALLY, GREAT!' after sth like 10 hours of DS3. Then I recalled how marvelously they structured the beginning of DS1...

It is great. It just properly shows you that there are ton of places you will be visiting from start. Cocktease is good word i think that describes it perfectly well.

Imo DS3 would be as good if not for : Boreal Valley barier and lothric castle emma + dancer as S&O skill check. It would be great if Crystal Sage wouldn't be road blocking boss. With this you would have essentially whole game unlocked from start. Hopefuly they will go with expansion in way of expanding world instead of doing standalone parts of world like in DS2.

So I got down to Tomb of the Giants bonfire only to find out that Rhea wasn't there since I hadn't killed the capra demon. Made it back out (pain in the ass as predicted, mostly because of pinwheels) and got Lightning Spear from the Warrior of Sunlight statue. Holy shit is this thing powerful. I'd pumped my Faith to 28 so I could use Wrath of the Gods when I got it and apparently that's enough to have Lightning Spear one-shot the metal boar, one-shot the priest and the big knight at the church, and 5 or 6-shot the combined health pool of the gargoyles.

Anyway, I killed the capra demon which caused Rhea to show up a the Tomb. The trip down is easy enough, but the fight against her knights is tough at low levels since you aggro both of them at once AND I'd already triggered the skeleton pillar things in my last trip. I dealt very low damage to the knights so I ended up letting the skeleton pillars kill them by repeatedly triggering their flailing attack.

Made it out of the Tomb (again) and bought all of Rhea's miracles at the church causing her to disappear. Petreus told me about how I can do anything to the poor little purebred, but since she's already gone I don't think he can kill her. I've been told killing him counts as a sin so I'll probably leave him be.

Looking forward to using Wrath of the Gods on some unsuspecting bosses Havel.

The Spear in DS1 was a bit retarded to be honest. Way too OP. So to make things right FromSoft absolutely trampled it into the ground in DS3. You need like 5 to kill even the most basic bitch enemies.

So sad.

Oh shit. Thanks for posting about it, I'm already planning my next DS1 playthrough and I'd have done the same ;0

Nice. Though I still enjoy repeated backstabs with a new char... that feel of dread since his 1 hit kills you...

DS3 has few moments like these frankly.

I'm told that it was ok or even good in DS2 until they nerfed it in a patch.

I definitely picked the right game to go cleric in.

There's definitely an opportunity cost to killing things with spells but I've played the game enough times that using OP spells doesn't hinder my enjoyment (doesn't cause regret). I'm just happy to be experiencing the game in a completely different way.

prepatch DaS2 lightning spears were way too good. even the basic one trivialized most bosses. it was ridiculous... and then they went and shat on it completely and thoroughly. oh man are From awful at balance (both PvE and PvP)

I don't understand why they keep having miracles and spells if they're going to make them massively underpowered anyway. They probably want to avoid the backlash they would get if they cut those elements out of the game altogether. Then again they basically removed shields from Bloodbourne and that seems to have turned out ok for them.

In vanilla DS2 i had about 44 Lighting spears attuned by the time i got to Rotten. Poor faggot had no chance  Than they nerfed dmg and number of casts. I still remember how butt-hurt was that retard DSP once he couldnt spamm LS anymore. Also his rage-quit at Looking Glass Knight was glorious :bounce:

I remember having 55 lightning spears, 30 something great lightning spears, and a handful of sunlight spears. That was fun in a completely destroying everything kind of way.

I'm trying to kill Gwyn this time without parries, damn, it so much harder lol.

Two swings with a heavy weapon will stagger him, allowing you to get in two more.
I'm guessing room for that is only after his grab attack?

Yeah that's your best chance but not the only one. If you have a Claymore for example you can roll&stab and hit. He staggers and you can get in one (or two) more hits.

I will try that and i must say Gwyn is actually not a bad boss fight if you're not cheesing him with parries. Maybe it's not quite Artorias level of awsomness, w/e it's good enough.

Guise is there any way to do a plunging attack on the Stray Demon in the Undead Asylum? My char seems too squishy to take him on otherwise.

Nope, just stay behind him the whole fight so you can evade the AOE and you are good to go.

He also really loves to loop himself to death by doing the flying buttslam over and over.

Bleed works extremely well on him if you have the reinforced club/uchi/jagged ghost curved sword/whatever.
