DAI is shit.
I don't see how it being shit will make it good in the long run. It will only generate more of the same if successful.
Its more complex shit but its still shit.
The only thing that will generate quality is technology progress but consoles are killing development. Next gen is a joke its top PC of last gen. They are dragging us down.
The only reason I cant run DAI maxed out on my 5870 is because its console first and badly optimized.
Next gen being a joke is reason Witcher 3 will have problems maxinig out on any single GPU of present date because GPU manufactures are also slowing down. No reason to have 10 times more power than console fuck, its not profitable.
Compare this with a game from 2003. and 2007.-2 bio games like Kotor and ME1 and you see significant up regarding graphics. Now there is none.

Although I am a bit startled by the number of people buying this game pre-Let's Play, particularly after DA II. The reactive elements of this game all either suck or are utterly banal, the main praise is going to the cut-scenes and general main-plot story and companions usuals, so I see no reason not to just watch it rather than buy it, at least until it becomes shovelware price.

Actually you are wrong. The sig implies that ever increasing numbers of people in a crowd actually decrease the return of collective intelligence as a rule and therefore it is very accurate. Intelligence will always increase as a total numerical value if added linearily BUT that line suggests that the more people you add, the actual intelligence of a group will decrease as an absolute percentage and increase at an ever decreasing rate the more people are added to it.

I ended the game with about 500 power... it serves no fucking purpose at all. you need less than 200--maybe less than 100--to get through the game, even if you do the various side-things that require it.

I don't think I've ever come across a game which requires so many "heads-ups" to would be players about what is the best way to try and wrangle some enjoyment out of a mediocre RPG before. And I don't think I've ever come across a game with such a large portfolio deliver so many things that are completely redundant.

Power - you end the game with hundreds of it, but do you feel more powerful at the end than at the beginning? 250 power different?
Gold - you end the game with thousands of it, but you never really used it, did you?
Influence - Influencing what exactly? You amass thousands of it, but do you ever spend it and to what end?
Bombs - Do people actually use these? I've watched about 30 hours of let's Plays and not seen one used yet.

Reading the comments in the Let's Plays reveals hoards of people desperate for the Let's Player to travel in the only one-true correct way to get the correct fun out of the game:

Get out of the Hinterlands and main plot to Skyhold.
Make sure you talk to XYZ so you can do XYZ cut-scene.
Don't buy anything and remember to craft all your gear, runes, pommels and etc.
Make sure you specialise at level XYZ

Normally when you watch Let's Plays you are hoping for a bit of schadenfreude or, if watching someone struggle, let them know why they're struggling, but, jeez, with this game there's this entire infrastructure of people guiding other people through the game to minimise shite and maximise fun. You have to ask, why is there so much shite to need to be warned about!

On a side note, one of Total Biscuit's friends is just happily enjoying the mindless questing in Hinterlands for the sake of questing, and I have to commend the guy, that's no bad way to play if you just want an offline MMO to yourself to while away some fantasy time... honest to goodness guilty pleasuring right there, no harm in that.

If you want independent scene to improve, mainstream has to push technology up-more processing power, better engine that can do more faster and at the end better graphics going to photorealism.
AAA titles will always be shallow trash but at least make it fun. Problem with DAI is that its not a fun game.And you need innovations for fun.
D:OS could not be made in infinity engine, elemental mechanics could not be implemented, so as an "old school" game it benefited from development.
Great real "next gen." graphic is your friend. It pushes development and gives opportunities to quality smaller studios to make good RPGs down the line.
Consoles with their shit poor components is the enemy. They give no room to AAA titles rather than simplistic shit like DAI, AC and similar action games.
For storyfags like myself it would be interesting what quality smaller studio could do if developing price of by today standard AAA level game could be made by them-I mean story driven with voice acting.
Example of how technology could help development of quality in role play is Nemesis system in Shadow of Mordor.Something down that path as a part of engine could make randomized C&C calculations on a story level scale.
But as I said for that you need mooooore processing power, new better engines, new technologies and at the end better graphics.

To be clear: I never said and am not saying now that this system drives the game, or that it should drive the game, or even that it is particularly well done. Obviously, slapping a simple real-time clock on the main quest of any single-player RPG would be ridiculous and horrible. All I am saying is that the war table system is extraordinary in its establishment of NPC action as truly independent of player action.

I'd say that 'extraordinary' is a particularly strong word to use when the mechanic isn't particularly novel, even to the single-player genre.

In fact, I'd say it fails in portraying believable independent NPC action. Why do your agents act on a real-time clock while the rest of the NPCs don't and are willing to wait for you to click that button to start the countdown towards the foiling of their plots? This in no way makes the world feel like it is not revolving around your actions either. You still have to act, to start that timer. Nothing of note happens otherwise.

All in all, I see no real advantage to this system over a purely quest-driven one, or a consistent game clock ala Fallout. There are tweaks to the mechanic that can be implemented to make it better, but ultimately having the table missions run on a real-time clock while the rest of the quests don't is a disconnect for the game world.

If everybody but me hates it, fine, but nothing said has convinced me that it's an invalid or even especially bad approach to divorcing NPC action from player action. You are confusing engine complexity with graphics. The Infinity Engine couldn't handle a game from today, but that's not strictly graphics involved. Games today have the ability for wider scripting, more intuitive AI, larger detection ranges, more complex physics interactions, cycles such as day/night or rain/sun and the ability to handle the animations and programming of more and more NPCs on one map.

It's not "graphics" that push the game limits. Not alone. Not by a long shot. The Nemesis system is not that complex in terms of processing requirements. It is more of a design, with a huge net of "if/then" statements that account for all the varying relationships. That's more work, not more GPU processing speed.

So, again... get out of here with that "graphics represent progress in the industry and consoles are holding us back" nonsense. There's many things you can attribute to console gaming and AAA development about the oversimplification of systems - "graphics not being more shiny" is not a valid one.

I'm not sure if everyone who spreads these views are trolls, though. It's a very widespread idea. If you hang around TBS games' forums on Steam you generally don't have to wait very long to see someone complaining about the fact that they're not real-time.
