Don't worry, we're going to the Orlesian ball tonight, the game will get even better.
Here's hoping you manage to find all 31/31 secrets and the 10/10 halla statues while delving into the intriguing politics of Orlais.
rofl. fucking spoilers/

They could never follow that up well because you could decide not to do it and your saves carry forward.

Yeah, but they could at least have made it a bit more interesting than just a boy having vivid dreams because he was carrying an ancient soul. It didn't need to be world-changing, but it felt like a tacked-on afterthought. Then again, I don't know why I expected any better of Bioware.

That wasn't an obstacle for Bioware on other subjects, e.g. Leliana's death.

To be fair, in my game I killed Leliana and she told the DA3 protagonist that she was killed by the hero of Ferelden, but the Maker must have resurrected her because she woke up unharmed.

The dragon model looks awesome, and the whole valley looks very nice, too. This tree thing was probably supposed to be the nest?
On the other hand, the silliness factor of dragon fights comes to the fore again. In order for the player to have any chance at all, they must make the dragon a stupid pushover. Can the dragon wipe people away with his wings? No. Can he just stomp on people and make goo out of them? No. He rarely (?) tries to just eat them, either. It's clear why they do this, but it makes everything look incredibly fake.

Why would anyone spend time analyzing with turd of a Battle System. It isn't even the first DA, it's the third one in a row with a shitty battle system.

Finally I'm going to start the final quest. I leave 2 areas unseen and some unfinsihed activities in the ones I visited (like killing all dragons, or some of the rifts from the Emerald Graves), which should leave me uncomfortable because I NEED to see everything, but this game is so fucking tedious. Even the main quest now feels terribly dull because of all the filler I've suffered, and poor storytelling. There's some interesting plot points lore wise in the game that don't have enough time to breath because they've chosen to only explore these themes in the main quest, so they get axphyxiated by the Corifeous menace. In DAO, because the main story was very simple, all the mandatory side plots get enough development, and also because the world was new for us we didn't need that much development. Here big things happened that are presented, developed, and resoluted really quickly. Again, as it seems to be the running theme for this game, it's a waste of potential.

And the combat now is just an awesome button clickfest. At the first 10 levels I was constantly watching that the AI wasn't going to do anything retarded, and to conserve resources I tried to be as efficient as possible in combat. Now, it doesn't matter if your companions are retarded as hell, because you're so fucking powerful that you don't need to manage them at all. Hell, I even finished entire main quests without replenishing my potions, and I didn't even use the knight enchanter class. Completely broken gameplay wise.

For me, this is far worse than DA2. At least story wise, even lacking a coherent narrative and a completely bananas third act, was much more interesting, and in terms of gameplay all was fairly short so it was a lot more easy to endure than the extreme filler of DAI.
DAI for me competes with NWN and Jade Empire for worst Bioware "RPG".

I definitely enjoyed DA2 more, which is kind of insane to think about since that game is so flawed. At least it had a unique art style, the illusion of choice, more actual quests than 8 or so main quests and more tactical combat (if you can believe it).

This thread is making me very very very very sad. So much potential with all their resources, technology, time and ideas (party based combat, reactivity dependant on races, classes)... and all of it wasted, because a) they can't decide whether to make a proper RPG or casual shit b) they are unable to make a proper RPG, which is fucked up given their history. Or it might be combination of both actually...

In America everyone says fuck, because we don't give a shit.

Wait, sorry to bring this up again, but it just struck me: yes you fucking do (give a shit). You say fuck on American television and it gets censored. We literally have to buy special versions of your TV shows to air something overhere that's not censored to hell and back.

Apparantly, you give a lot of a shit.

They don't give a shit in reality, it's all just an act. They're fucking hypocrites professionals. They have the largest porn industry, yet bitch about morals the most. Same thing with everything. Ever heard about "American smile"? Yeah... So At the end of the day (when lights are turned off), they really just don't give a shit... There's no other nation with such a messianic nature while being so cynical at the same time (one of the "side effects" is that their comedy and satire is fucking unmatched).

Single player WoW in a giant world with filler quests/combat, retarded dialogs, made by Bioware?

I might pick it up used. I love me those open world games even if they are shit. Apparently the Knight Enchanter specialization class makes this turd's combat more bearable due to how overpowered it is.

That Bioware had their hands guided with previously established D&D rulesets is the reason they were able to make good RPGs in the past. That previously defined set of mechanics made things like balancing, leveling, skill sets, etc. all pretty much taken care of. KOTOR and Jade Empire turned up the cinematic story telling and action combat knobs a lot in comparison, but they at least had some RPG roots underneath.

DA:O was their attempt to create a 3D, cinematic BG in their own universe. Their own executives thought it was shit, which is why the big wigs were surprised by its success and immediately pushed out the combat designers, the producer and the lead designer within months of its release, working up a console version and DA2 to go right on its heels.

So to answer your question - no, they don't know how to make an RPG. They had people there who did, once, but they've long since given them the boot or made it so hostile to work there that the employees quit.

The sad thing is, they don't even realize it. They think that this what RPGs should be, that their combat is the tactical tits pajamas and that adding banal and boring weak action elements and tying them to poorly implemented controls and pause controls makes the game "balanced" or something. It's a failure on both parts - at least make a good action game if that's what you really want to do. Don't give lip service to tactics with a system that anyone who actually cares about tactics will find worthless, while also have your hands tied in making a decent button masher by an attempt to be a number-crunching RPG.

Wait for the first of the year. You'll see a price dip, not to mention they may have patched out some of the terribad bugs and control problems.

Sometimes the dragons will flap their wings to suck you in. They also kick you away depending on where you are, but I think that's it. Nothing especially dangerous or challenging. They had so much potential to make the fights epic. Remember how you would panic in Origins when an ogre suddenly picked up your tank and started punching the crap out of him? Nothing like that here.

because DAI unlike DAO and DA2 has coherent art direction. You may not like its art style but finally different factions/nations have unique looks. Tevinter, Venatori, Orlais, Grey Wardens,Dalish Elves, Inquisition forces they all have their identity.

ffs DAO had like one fucking light armour texture. DA2 was even worse with mage robes and overused assets be it locations or enemies.

and tactical combat in DA2 lost that "tactical" meaning with first wave of parachuting enemies.

You missed the point of that interaction. British English has a lot of class issues that American English has none of. The idea of my English teaching skills being suspect because I use "fuck" on an internet forum is a silly idea in America, but in the UK it would make some sense.

Our broadcast television does indeed have strict FCC rules about cussing, nudity, etc., which can be quite annoying. However I feel the need to point out that in pretty much every other form of media out there, from cable television to movies and the rest, this stuff is purely voluntary and mostly based on not pissing off certain groups that complain to advertisers. America actually has extremely minor censorship compared to Europe, if we take censorship as "government block of content." We barely have any of that, our ratings systems are all voluntary, etc.

Shitty screenshot is shitty.

Not saying the game looks amazing, but at least it has style. DA:O is super generic grimdark Tolkien and DA:I is super generic woods and desert high fantasy Tolkien. I'll take an attempt at unique design and artistry over that boring shit any day. Don't lump me in with boring fucks on here who want everything to look like Baldur's Gate. Generic fantasy realism is boring as fuck.

As for combat, that was the point of the "if you can believe it" at the end there. DA2's tactical combat was pretty much ruined by spawning enemies mid-battle, removing a lot of skills and having bad difficulty balance, but it was still ten times more tactical than DA:I's bullshit.

What was so unique about DA2 art style? Honest question. Please post one screenshot that will not scream cartoony grimdark fantasy.

I feel like you're asking me to tell you why water is wet. DA2 had an exaggerated, almost animated look with vibrant colors. I don't know of any other 3D singleplayer RPG that looks like it. I guess some MMOs might, but I don't play MMOs.
