This game is made by two millenial cuckservatives. It's getting worse and worse. Half of soldiers are women, bunch of niggers, very FOX NEWS vibe

Happy New Year to everyone! We hope you all had a safe and happy Holiday. With 2021 behind us, we wanted to give you a quick update on the development status of the game. You may have already seen us share this information elsewhere, but for those who who haven't seen it: the game is close to being ready, and we are currently targeting a Q1 2022 release. We have one more demo planned which will be available in late February during the Steam Next Fest. For those who have played the previously available demo, this new one has quite a few changes, and will run the average player about 45-60 minutes. Needless to say, we're very excited about the next few months, and we can't wait for you all to see what we've been working on!

Gameplay Video

In that spirit, we wanted to share a 5minute montage of combat gameplay from our recent playtests. Some enemies and abilities still need a bit of balancing, but we feel the combat is in an enjoyable state at the moment. Hope you like it!

Character Portraits and Class Skins

Another thing we wanted to share was our finalized character portraits. As mentioned in a previous update, each portrait face is customizable by the player (aside from the wrinkles from aging). There are 5 male and 5 female faces, but their appearance can change quite drastically based on the toggles and choices available. This is something we'll continue to expand upon after release, so you can expect the addition of more faces, hairstyles, tattoos, etc.

We also have added a few alternate skins for each class sprite, so you can more easily tell apart characters that are of the same class.

When you change the hair color and skin tone of a character's portrait, those changes will also be reflected on their sprite. For now, their hairstyle won't change, but we'll be adding that capability sometime after release.

That's all for now! Thanks for reading and we wish you all the best in 2022!

I played the last demo, there's gameplay there. I really hope they demo the overworld travel and strategy layers though, as the previous demo was really a vertical slice of combat / cave exploration.

New Demo Available

Steam Next Fest has begun! From February 21-28 you can check out our brand new demo. This demo is significantly longer than the one we released in 2020, and will likely take around 2hours to complete for a new player. We'd love to hear your thoughts, and encourage you to join our Discord if you have any feedback to share or bugs to report. Stay tuned for a new teaser trailer later this week, and our release date announcement a few short weeks from now. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the demo :)

Initial first impressions after 30 mins:

Those afflicted by the dragon's blight would lose their minds and bodies as they slowly became abominations of flesh, and outcasts to society known as the Blighted

Dragon Age lawyers begin to stir...

  • Title font has weird spacing issues.
  • Writing is okay, nothing super interesting. Lots of clicking. Probably too much writing for this kind of game.
  • Combat's fun!
  • Pixel art and animations are good, as expected.
  • One of your companions is irked that you're... looting a dungeon because it might belong to someone?
  • Dungeon exploration reminds me a lot of WH40k: Mechanicus.
  • Are there no in-game description of rules and mechanics past the tutorial?
  • Downed skeletons that are waiting for revive can dodge attacks and glitches into their standing animation
  • Overworld looks nice.

More first impressions after an hour (which is about as long as the tutorial and the rest of the demo is). Take these with a grain of salt as they're just personal opinions.

TL;DR: The demo is not a good way to get people interested in the game. Super hand-holdy/linear, mountains of dialogue, and despite giving you a look at the overworld, you are prevented from doing anything but the (long) intro quest.

This demo made me less interested in the game. The last demo supposedly was just a dungeon crawl? This version of the demo is also a dungeon crawl but you get to look at a world map. Most of what's not a dungeon crawl is just pages and pages of dialogue.

Combat, sound and art are good though.

Additional stuff.

  • Nice custom difficulty options
  • No free movement on overworld map, have to move towards a settlement or point of interest
  • Want to turn back in the middle of a journey? Sucks to be you.
  • No freeroaming mobs
  • Can't visit any other city but the first one
  • Initial set of quests is very long and verbose (NEED to be skippable in the final game)
  • Dialogue choices in the demo are super rare, so expect a lot of 1,1,1,1,1,1
  • Writing is serviceable but utterly mundane
  • Has that weird thing in modern RPGs where the tank melee classes are women
  • Way too many factions (with interesting names like House P)
  • Dungeon crawls really aren't that eventful
  • Massive dungeons full of empty room corridors
  • Injuries are interesting, but ultimately that kind of resource juggling isn't my cup of tea
  • The time mechanics can be brutally difficult
  • Skills/abilities are... okay
  • Cool skill trees
  • Max party of 4? That's a pretty small mercenary band...
  • I feel like you can just pack all ranged characters and kite the hell out of enemies
  • Combat difficulty is appreciably hard with mixed party
  • Can't move after your attack action
  • No battle log?
  • Is there a way to see what status effects are on enemies?
  • High combat numbers
  • Combat's mostly about positioning and is more gamey than something like Battle Brothers
  • Battles are balanced for endurance matches of several fights per dungeon, so individual fights aren't challenging
  • The "dash" tile color is way too close to the "walk" tile color. RIP colorblind players
  • Gameplay is mostly resource management
Conclusion: ehhhhhhhhhhhh. If you're expecting pixel Battle Brothers this is not it. If you really, really like the minimal dungeon crawling set-up they have here, then it might be worth it for you. I really hope the final game has a lot more than what is seen in the demo, because that would be disappointing.

They took since 2017 to make this?

What a surprise

I had a nice eyeroll moment after finishing the tutorial dungeon... only to go right back into another dungeon.

Don't see the point of updating the demo when it's just the same content as the first one.

That's really a shame, as it sounds exactly like the first demo but with more dialogue. They did *show* you the world map, and you even traveled overland on it, but it was completely on-rails without any interactivity except a scripted interception on your pre-determined course.

It sounds like they just added more explainers and more dialogue to the dungeon part to help newbies. Sounds like they don't know their audience, and may be struggling with everything outside of dungeon combat.
