Were there people who thought the leaks were fake? Lol.

Yes. There were people that were convinced they were fake.

And were impervious to the logical point that if they were fake, Sony wouldn't have gone insane copyright striking anybody that tried to TALK about them.

The thing is that killing the main character in such an arbitrary and unexpected manner can work, as it does in No Country For Old Men when Josh Brolin's character is just killed off screen by a bunch of garden variety thugs after struggling through 3/4 of the movie against Javier Bardem's relentless killer. It subverts the expectation of the audience of a happy ending after all the struggle and highlight that in this world there are no happy endings.

That could have been done here, but it's so inconsistent and badly written with bullshit motivation and cheap manipulation, that you don't give a fuck about any of the characters. David Cage makes the same mistakes.

Furthermore, it's the lack of player input that makes the worst sin: You are in control UNTIL the moment the director decides to show you the CORRECT way to finish the story. In a movie, which is passive, it's not such a problem: you can hate the way the story turns but since you don't control the characters directly, it doesn't matter.

In a game which tries to give the illusion of some kind of freedom and choice, to then be forced to accept one railroaded ending that makes no logical sense is absurd. It's already been a couple of decades where there are several endings in games of this type and how hard would it have been to give a few forks, even at a fake-choice Telltale CYOA level to keep Joel alive(it could have been handwaved that he was sent away somewhere to recover and that's why the rest of the game is more or less the same), or even more simply, at the end of the game you get to choose to kill or spare Abby(as has been done for years already). This simple thing would have halved the negative player reaction alone.

Some Advanced A.I. action:

This but non-ironically. The one pearl of wisdom from Rich Evans of RedLetterMedia had about video games is that all story-based games have rich, detailed story documents, but when it comes to the gameplay, the pitch is "Eh, its a third-person shooter".

But that would violate their artistic integrity! MAYBE a choice between a red, green or blue filter tint over the ending, but surely you don't propose to go further than that?

I've been around strong women before. Seen impressive feats of strength, girls who can do lots of pull-ups, move impressive weight (for a female), and they have some legit defined musculature. Can even look pretty attractive.

But this "girl" is fucking YOKED. I know it's been said a million times, but you don't develop this type of physique as a female without Serena Williams-tier steroids while hitting the iron HARD. Who in their right mind thought this was a realistic depiction of a stronk woman lmao

That's why narrative games can only work if you have a clearly defined character and a "railroaded" story, without any customization or freedom of choice. Like Witcher 3 (all Witchers in fact).

In general tho I increasingly believe games will never be able to hold a candle to movies and books narrative-wise, precisely because they are interactive. The best developers can hope for is a story that's not aggressively retarded combined with great gameplay. That's what makes great games.

Games like TLOU2 will be seen as failed experiments aborted by history.

Games have enormous potential for storytelling precisely because of their interactivity, but none of it's going to be realized as long as game writers pretend to be movie directors and treat gameplay and story as separate things. Freedom of choice is a strength, a unique feature that no other medium can offer except in very limited ways (like CYOA books), yet it's treated as some sort of a hindrance that needs to be suppressed at every turn, just so that the story can play out the exact way it was intended to. Can't let the player screw up the big story moments by doing something that isn't in the script.

As long as your primary way of telling your story is through non-interactive cutscenes, you're not making proper use of your medium.

Why is that fake news Dexter?
It wasn't "after he completed his playthrough", it was when Joel-rino got his head caved in early in the game.

Right. Still, ultimately a foolish gesture. Sony doesn't care, they already have his money.

Exactly. Idiot antics. If they really wanted to hurt Sony where it matters (and you better believe a failing bottom line is the ONLY thing that will stop companies peddling such trash) they would either demand a refund or give the game away so that they lose sales.

Disagree. One copy is meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but a symbol can have significant impact. And cutting up your disk is quite a powerful symbol, and the footage is already being shared. I bet it will cause many more people/fans not to buy it, than if he had just refunded.
