In a non clown world the question would be 'are you a boy or a girl/are you a man or a woman'. Whats the original text?

I'm not sure anyone legitimately knows, but the line wasn't received well at all by other players on Falcom-related channels either.
Val the Moofia Boss might have more info, he hangs around on the Steam forums.

I have a big collection of thoughts and things I've noted from this game's text, to be posted way later when I'm done with it.
I'm starting to despise the general 'bantz' atmosphere of the translation in general, I want to be immersed in the world, not be reading Codex-type posts in my favorite game series. Slang and internet lingo once in a while is fine, but you've gotta draw the line somewhere. Sadly, it feels the line was already annihilated and shat all over on, post-Reverie.

Make the Codex Great Again!
A little something at 54:30. Actually a fucking huge something. And it's only a minute of it.

Now, who had "Sora FC remake with YS-style combat" on their bingo card? Because you might want to try the lottery.

First Chapter remake, hard pass. It's perfect as it is.

While I don't really think a remake was necessary, I'm kind of excited to have a reason to revisit the Liberl arc with all the knowledge I now have built up about Zemuria. It'll be a lot of fun, and something tells me Trails 3rd will be getting a very special treatment when the time comes.

I don't think the game is that old to need a remake either, but something tells me this isn't what Falcom is going off on here. The idea of revitalizing older things for new audiences of young people is important in Japan. This explains not only the streams of shitty zero-effort but high accessibility remakes but also the popularity of long-running franchises where the installments are similar at their core but different overall, especially in terms of appearance (Gundam, Precure, Kamen Rider, you name it).
Square Enix doesn't have to put much care into drawing in new people because the continuity is not as strict as other long-running franchises. They just make new games for modern platforms and throw money at an occasional remake of an old installment.
But Falcom is worse off. Trails is famous for its long-running story and a strong sense of continuity. You get to see protagonists from previous games turn up as main characters in new ones, where they act more mature and grown-up. Falcom has to keep making games for the audience that likes this kind of storytelling but they also have to pull in new people. We're all aware that their games haven't been doing that good lately. From a business standpoint, they're definitely making a gamble here, but the choice is between dying quietly or dying fast. It's unlikely the gamble will pay off at all because people will still look at these games and go "holy shit I have to play how many hours until I get to the katana boy?"

Too cartoony and oversaturated. Sameface. Looks too much like a modern plastic anime. Don't know why they didn't try to emulate the aesthetic of the original with the more gritty textures and the more varied faces, as well as the color palette.

I wonder if this is a complete remake of FC+SC or just FC.

Hopefully it isn't being lolcowlized by Californians (it's gonna be Californians).

I am curious as to how Falcom can be making this AND Kai AND Tokyo Xanadu 2 AND the next Ys game? Did they open another studio or are they outsourcing it?

The Sora trilogy was literally localized by a California-based studio so if you want to panic the train's gone.
According to these Twitter zoomers https://www.rpgsite.net/news/16224-the-legend-heroes-trails-in-sky-1st-launches-worldwide-in-2025 the translation used in the English version of the trailer seems to be identical to the Xseed one aka the version everyone played and liked even though it replaced literally every instance of Estelle's "andesutte" with literal random fanfiction babble and it took a decade for people to care.
The game definitely has plenty of scenes that can be cut or "creatively worked around", so that's going to be interesting to see.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
Cool remake, but I think I'll pass. While I enjoy the games, I rarely feel the urge to replay any in the series.

On the one hand, if they upgrade combat and orbment system to Cold Steel 3+, it could be worth it. On the other hand, FC doesn't have that many interesting battles in the first place, save for a couple in the very end.

quartz only providing stat buffs / spells would be huge decline without any combination bonuses

combining quartz to unlock different spells / combos is more interesting (pre cs or kuro style)

remake looks fine to me hope they don't butcher localization or combat difficulty (both are gonna get fucked I would expect)

but then fc nightmare balance was quite clusterfuck (hard early in a bad way) but after unlocking earth wall + buffing/debuffing speed game becomes easy. would hope some balance changes to make combat more interesting

Extended version of the trailer. Has a 15 second or so chunk with direct comparisons between the original and the remake/remaster/whatever this is supposed to be, and it looked pretty ludo save for one major thing: for some reason Falcom literally cannot comprehend how to make textures look gritty in 3D so everything is too crisp and too clean, shockingly enough making the original the winner. They also kind of foreshadowed the ending of the gameby specifically bringing up "What happens at the end of their journey?" I wonder how many people are going to have their experience influenced by this.

The graphics look extremely washed up and the faces look all the same. Did Japanese artists who knew how to make textures and faces got banned from the industry after the PS2 generation?

The Good:
Basel is probably the coolest looking city in any Trails game thus far. Not sure how it fits 180,000 people, but it is astonishingly beautiful.

i dont mind daybreak combat

The Bad:
I do. I mind it very much.

The Ugly:
I would be remiss if I didn't give a preview of my growing Daybreak thanks for ruining everything collection.

regarding remake:
Update 08/28/24 at 1:10 a.m.: A Falcom representative has clarified the following platform and publishing-related information to Gematsu:

  • Platforms – “While the game has been announced for Nintendo Switch, a release on PlayStation and PC platforms is currently ‘to be determined.’ There is a possibility that it could be released on these platforms, and if that decision is made, it will be announced in a press release at a later date.”
