Does gender have any affect on NPC attitudes and dialogues? More importantly, can I become a porn star in this game? :D

Yeah. Females are dumber.

Strangely enough I never saw(or don't remember) anything about player gender in the articles or official sites. Journos just assumed there'd be both? Will there be both? :P

I wish it had been isometric instead. This simply looks bad.

Isometric + turn-based, how hard could it fucking be?

I have zero interest in FPS these days even if they are also considered RPGs. So this game isn’t for me. I like my rpgs isometric and turn based too. But it is a niche market.

The minute you heard about the trailer being released at a big event, you had to know this wasn’t going to be a turn based game.

No, I'm aware of it. But it still doesn't make it any more sad. If I saw this as a potentially great game, I wouldn't make such a comment. But seeing what it actually is, based on the trailer and the gameplay video (everything from setting, aesthetic, humor, gameplay) makes me wish it was something else.

Also what about sex related perks and traits? You know, like Sex Appeal, Kama Sutra Master and so on as in FO2. Probably not, these are not exactly the guys who made FO2.

Things that sucked
  • Quest markers
  • Retarded main character aiming his gun all the time instead of lowering it
  • [DUMB] dialogue marker, as if we can't tell which one is the 'dumb' comment
  • Boring party members that look retarded
  • Pop-up damage numbers on enemies
  • Pop-up enemy names
  • Obvious console-focused UI which means controls/UI will be broken on PC at launch and almost certainly remain shit forever unless modders fix it
  • Retarded 'ENEMY KILLED. +750 XP' pop-ups
  • Stupid 'I SPOTTED YOU LOL' marker above enemies when you alert them
  • Main character just waltzing through enemy fire like it's nothing
  • Spam stimpacks to trivialise difficulty
  • Lip sync is non-existent, as is expression on their faces, scientist dude expresses surprise with a blank, emotionless face
  • Quest compass
Things that didn't suck
  • NPC dialogue seems quite good, broadly speaking
  • Ability to lie
  • Art direction seems rather interesting
  • Music/ambience seems good, if a bit bland
  • It's not Fallout 76
  • Quest design seems like it might be interesting, some actual role-playing opportunities
  • Dialogue options
  • NPCs seem like they might not be too retarded, judging by the guy who called the main character out on speaking to someone he disliked

I'm rather conflicted. I want to believe, but also at this point I can't help but predict a shit-show.

Most of your negative things seems like trivial things you can disable/avoid.

Guys come on. Bioware is dead now. Obsidian is new "old" Bioware now. Owlcats are new "old" Obsidian. So by that logic expect nothing but polished popeamole "rpg". Don't pre order ever. If it's decent you and I will be pleasantly surprised. If not well millions of fly's can't be wrong right? At very least it will generate enough interest to keep Feargus well feed. Oh wait he sold his company. Well at very least it will help talent at obsidian, oh wait Chris left so there is none...oh oh oh. Well at least it will help Microsoft with it's new beloved developing console and windows store that won't fuck you over as aconsumer. Oh wait ...

:slamdunk:

I just wanted an excuse to use that.

Unfortunately Feargus sold the company before the announcement of TOWs.

Now Private Division will take the bucks, Microsoft will take the IP and Feargus will get a couple of millions for being a cretin.

Which is good for him except that now Obsidian is worth much more than before the announcement. Great business instinct ... he lacked.

To be honest, they had multiple opportunities to reach AAA status in the past but they managed to fuck it up each time.

But at least Feargus is out of the picture now. Nobody will remember him in Microsoft's cemetery for dead pets.

Do you think Feargus is going on a sabbatical or pilgrimage and that he'll return as some sort of enlightened monk with a straw hat?

Citation needed. Nobody knows if these things can be disabled or not.

IF they can be disabled, then yeah.

But, you also have to consider that when you disable things that the game is designed around, the resulting experience isn't necessarily the one you might desire. If it's virtually impossible to complete a quest without quest markers on because there are no good quest directions to follow, and the level is designed around the concept of NAVIGATE USING QUEST MARKER LOL rather than actual smart level design, then the experience without quest markers is simply shit.

So no, it's not as simple as 'lol just disable it'. Anyone that's played Skyrim knows this: there are loads of quests that simply break without quest markers, because the developer didn't design quests to be played that way.

(Inb4 LOL, OBSIDIAN WON'T MAKE THAT MISTAKE)

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Expectations from first promos - Arcanum+Bioshock
Reality - Fallout 4+Mass Effect :negative:

But this is Cainarsky project and they're not senile yet, so... Fingers crossed?

I see where you get Mass Effect, as that's what the combat most reminded me of, too. But Fallout 4? Just because of the graphics? Based on all of the articles and interviews the only modern Fallout this will be comparable to is New Vegas. Whether it turns out to be anywhere near as good is another question. However, that's obviously what they're aiming for in terms of gameplay, dialogue, quest structure (frankly, the quest design philosophy is better than F:NV's, which didn't always give you the talk/stealth/kill troika. Whether they can come close to F:NV in terms of quest narratives... that's a pretty high bar).

Also, thematically there's at least some Arcanum in Outer Worlds. If Arcanum was fantasy setting during the industrial revolution, Outer Worlds is sci-fi setting during the robber baron era.

No, I'm aware of it. But it still doesn't make it any more sad. If I saw this as a potentially great game, I wouldn't make such a comment. Didn't you really like New Vegas? You should read some of the articles and interviews. They will make you feel a lot better about it.

Almost all of the games with a good feel to it's gunplay are very lethal, this type of combat where you walk around chipping away at enemy just looks and feels bad to play with guns. Good gunplay in a game is almost parallel with things dying fast and a lot of commitment to movement.

As JES put it years ago, combat with high lethality means that the only viable playstyle is a stealthy ranged weapons user (or a sneaky knock-you-out-with-one-hit character). They want non-stealthy melee to be viable, just like most other fpp RPGs with action-oriented gameplay.

Edited in Josh-quotes
Josh Sawyer said:
My job as a game designer is to get a sense for what people *enjoy*. Many people (e.g. people who play RPGs) enjoy having a sense of power progression, both through their characters and gear. "Face shot = death" as a standard does not scale well.

I'm not writing hypothetically. I mean I've set up the characters and damage models to do this, and that's what happens. If I take the extra step of "immersion" and make the player as fragile, all combats devolve into quick draw/distance competitions.

Melee/unarmed are impotent. If any combatant fires an explosive, the battle ends. Rifles and automatic weapons rule the battlefield. You can argue that it's more realistic, but it doesn't feel like Fallout IMO and I don't think most RPGers would enjoy it.

BTW I did some x-treeeme experimentation with adjusting HP and damage values in JSawyer to get to the realm of single headshot with most weapons (short of modest caliber handguns) = death. It is a very different experience but it also ruins a lot of gameplay elements and doesn't feel like Fallout at all.

Outdoors, if you get the drop on anyone (or if they get the drop on you) with a decent ranged weapon, you're effectively dead in seconds. Any reasonably accurate automatic weapon is a field-leveling scythe of destruction. Melee and unarmed are suicidal, even indoors, unless you catch the target by surprise. In groups it is hopeless. Explosives end all fights almost instantly.

A lot of this is arguably realistic but it kind of stinks in a Fallout RPG, IMO.

Heh, been waiting for "an RPG Renaissance" for 25 years, nothing on the horizon yet. Only graphics and animations have been improved everything else is either still stuck at the 90's or is worse now.

So are you an older crossdressing Lilura?

Make the Codex Great Again!
Eh could be worse. I look forward to try it, tbh.

Can't tell from these previews whether this is a something worth getting hyped about, but I can tell it is something worth keeping an eye on.

Considering I'm going to be looking at these characters a lot while playing is it really to much to ask the woman look attractive and not like round faced puddings.
There's a reason virtually every mod for any game makes women look better,so why not cut that out and have them attractive/slutty/striking/pretty/tarty from the get go or at least not like dykes.
I know I've mentioned this several times now but it does bother me.

Shooting looks a bit shit but that could partially be whoever is playing (I hope anyway).

It's too easy for girls to get into porn now, much like it's too easy for any girl to call themselves a model because of Instagram, photo filters and people getting access to high quality cameras with ease.

If you're not strutting down a catwalk in Venice with dead animal on your shoulders then you ain't authentic, nigga.

Is it true that this game has a perk system that is eerily similar to Fallout 76's perk cards? As in, the number of perks you can have is limited with your particular SPECIAL (or whatever it's called in this game) stat (e.g. 5 STR = 5 perk slots).

There is a huge gulf between:

1) wandering out into enemy fire nonchalantly, taking umpteen small arms fire hits, and then popping back into cover for a stimpack HP boost (that takes about 5 seconds to replace all that lost health)

and:

2) headshot = instant death

Yes, we understand that 100% realistic gunplay is not quite the ideal experience for most players, no that doesn't excuse this absolute dogshit gunplay.

If he was wearing the equivalent of Power Armor that'd be another matter, but he isn't.

Explosives, shots to the head, automatic weapons, these should all be extremely scary things to go up against. I'm not arguing for one-shot kills, I'm arguing for a more realistic baseline difficulty, so that gameplay doesn't devolve into alternating between facetanking everything and popping endless stimpacks.

Sawyer is just using an appeal to extremes here and it doesn't fly.
