Even on medium difficulty enemies are bullet sponges

Lots of people keep saying this but I ain't seeing it. Most mooks go down in a single headshot and bosses only need a few seconds of strafing. I have been keeping my guns upgraded and switched to electrical/plasma damage however, regular bullets suuuuuuuuck.

Indeed. Bullet sponges? Just not seeing that ever since I've found the first shotgun outside the ship site.
That was messing those starter gorillaz real nice when they burrowed up close and personal (hard difficulty).

Now with a charged plasma rifle most enemies take 1 shot to kill. Or maybe two hunting rifle headshots.
Or 2-3 seconds tickling with the shock cannon up close.

Many of the people saying this also complain that the RPG mechanics are meaningless so maybe they just didn’t put much thought into their builds.

If you're winning anyways, and builds are meant to make combat less of a chore they're hardly meaningful.

How much variance is there really? If you are fighting something even remotely level appropriate then it seems to me that you kill everything in 1-2 hits on hard and having 100% or 130% damage is not really going to matter all that much.

My favorite type of post in this thread is how everybody was promising to "kill all the dykes and SJWs lols", but instead they ended up obediently running small errands for a lesbian couple because they don't want Parvati to be sad.
Lol. 131 dead bodies disagree with you. Admittedly i did all that for absurdity's sake and the novelty of RP as a psychopath.
Yet you bought it... so low effort still rewarded.
PS Old fart devs got no soul. You just cannot trust somebody who worked at blizzard for 5 years or so.

Thought you stopped playing it, gonna see it through?

I played for another hour or so yesterday. I think I'm about 3/4 done, maybe more. I'm on level 21 and just hit Byzantium. I won't be able to play in the coming week (traveling without my game rig) but we'll see, I've come this far, maybe I'll see it through after all.

Apparently there’s enough variance that enemies feel like bullet sponges to some people.

Yeah, I rather have the opposite impression, combat is fast & furious (thank god for the TTD) and enemies drop like flies.

The problem isn't that games are infected by politics. The problem is that they're infected by shit politics.
The problem is that some devs want you to agree with their politics. It's a zero sum game without any compromise. Adopt our views or GTFO, is the idea for most of these valley girl writers.

I dont get one thing.

Apparently Tim Cain played the game for 20 or whatever times from start to finish and they still managed to fuck up the balance so much. How come?

Developers Leonard Boyarsky and Nitai Poddar come on the show to talk about the development of The Outer Worlds, Boyarsky's feelings on Fallout 3, and more. Plus, Mike talks about his review of the game. It's an all Outer Worlds podcast as we go in-depth on this spiritual successor to Fallout.

The interview starts from 28:20.

edit: Nitai likes (old) JRPGs and Mass Effect.

Make the Codex Great Again! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. I helped put crap in Monomyth
This game is great and the reactivity and C&C shits all over Disco Elysium. The writing does too because it isn't pretentious and trying to be something more than it is--a fun sci fi serial rpg romp. Can actually role play and affect the world around you in meaningful ways which even changes quests, can even choose to kill whomever you want and it's taken into account. It is as intensely replayable as the original Fallout and destined to be a classic talked about for years.
