I'll play it and almost certainly love it but I do give a shit. I hate it because:

1. It's the most blatant, embarrassing case of tokenism I've ever seen
2. From a studio that almost ruined its mainstream reputation by refusing to stoop to tokenism 7 years ago
3. It's extremely inauthentic in a game that's built its brand on historical authenticity.
4. Vavra has spent the last 10 years being all tough and unyielding against the woke mob, only to cave in an era when bending the knee is not only necessary anymore but when the opposite is starting to be actually cool

It's not just about some random dindu in a videogame (that you can probably kill and rob as soon as you meet him), there's way more to it.

My guess is that since Vavra lost control (he sold the studio, if I am not mistaken) somebody thought the game needs some diversity and inclusivity. It may be a token NPC and the majority of players may not be that bothered by it (as there are woke games that are way more insufferable when it comes to being woke), but it certainly looks like a slippery slope for the next game of the studio and that's sad, especially when you compare the whole situation to Vavra telling people there were no blacks in medieval Bohemia and they should make their own game.

He sold out in the most literal sense - by selling the studio to Deepsilver. He's a "creative director" now, and as such, subservient to the money people.

I'm not trying to defend Vavra's real or imaginary transgressions, but people seem to think he's still in full control of Warhorse. That hasn't been the case since 2019.

If it was "just the publisher" then Vavra could simply say that, but he won't because this is part of the marketing strategy. He'll just retweet stuff about "never injecting DEI into games" and then at some point post release, when the game has already sold millions and gotten a lot of positive coverage, they'll say "oops, but it's just one black guy, that's not DEI. What's the big deal?" or just make subtle, passive-aggressive references to the criticism "we're the best-selling historical game, but some still claim we're 'woke', ha ha, just a bunch of incels".
