It is actually rich man's GTA, meaning that it is much better than GTA in all the ways that matter (to me) - gameplay mechanics, player agency, writing.

That's an understatement. Even CDPR started calling it "an open-world, action-adventure story" instead of "the role-playing game of the dark future" (as it used to be called at release) in May of 2019. They later changed that (in 2022) to "Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure RPG set in the dark future of Night City", but it clearly shows how confident they were in their own creation being an RPG at all, nevermind it being a good adaptation of the tabletop.
KCD2 was like the one game I was looking forward to.

Warhorse is now owned by Koch Media (apparently renamed as Plaion) from Germany. So it isn't that weird to say some corpo decided that bending the knee is a safer course of action. It will still take some more time for developers and publishers to realize the tide is turning and the whole woke/ESG/DEI thing is not worth the money and effort (assuming they won't be deluding themselves it is important for good PR). I also wouldn't discount the corpos' fear of any negative PR in general (this means criticism from activists and game journalism).
I get it, I am just saying that if you expect some kind of self-flaggelation or making excuses, explanations or apologies, you are likely to be disappointed. Wherever the decision came from or whatever the motivation, it is what it is.

Apparently they're sinking and according to some reports KCD2 massive success is basically the only thing that can save them.
