It'd be funny if the game ended up being mechanically faithful because they just didn't have time to create the popamole combat systems.

It'd be even more funny if devs made a popamole version to please Squeenix and troll the fans, but secretly worked on special release version that will be a true Thief game.

Have they hardcore'd up the game at the last moment out of a hysteria that it'll completely flop?

Whatever, it won't help with the jumping and the map design.

Are there any other sources to confirm that there won't be xp? I'm finding that hard to believe.

Items, such as keys from careless guards, can be swiped quickly. There is no experience system, however; instead you can earn gold to purchase new gear such as wire-cutters and different kinds of arrows.
It's the only one I've found.Might be because it's a recent change.Still,what Infinitron said.

This, but at least the gold system is similar to what Thief proposes with the store.

They haven't confirmed it yet on the graveyard that passes for the official Thief forums. Most likely because the community manager B1skit (AKA Adam, AKA B1cunt) is out brown nosing at some hipster Montreal coffee house looking for a new job before he gets the push like Coyotegrey before him.

Has there ever been any word on moddability of this game? I'm assuming no support, but if it could be modded, then something may yet be salvaged out of this.

I believe there was no word on it. Expect typical hardcoded popamole-console file extensions, making everything way harder to actually touch or mod.
Just look at the Deus Ex: HR. The only mods I found so far are minor graphical overhauls/debug mode. Nothing really special, so it seems that either a) Files are fucking tough to work with b) people aren't really interested in modding it(not really an option in this particular case. Deus Ex modding community was pretty large)

Garrett's comments often pointed out elements of the environment or provided information on level objectives, and the hints were strong enough that the player wouldn't have had to figure out much on their own. Windfeld Schmidt clarified that the clip was taken from a demo of Thief that was intended for members of the media, which is why Garrett gave out so many hints in his narration.
So devs think that journalists are so dumb, they need lots of hints to pass even a demo level. Can't fault the devs though, journalists are probably like that.

The actual melee combat system is very difficult to utilize, in order to discourage players from relying on it.
They're being very specific about this. Sure melee might be tough, but it doesn't matter when you can shoot someone in the face with your bow at point blank range.

They are just straight up lying here. No company, even Eidos, is going to greenlight a voice acting budget for clips that will never be used outside of a promotional slice. That's literally just pouring money down the drain.

Aren't you a gaming journalist? You should feel insulted.

I don't consider myself a journalist. I'm just a guy who writes his opinion about games, and there are some suckers who pay me for that. :D I hold the journalist career in a higher regard than to compare myself to the real journalists

Gaming journos are not journalists.

Just compare those tards to recent AMD presentation that showed true journos. Whatever AMD presented they were just recording silently like they were doing a job or something.
Whereas in gaming whenever a PR guy says or shows anything no matter how bad it is retards just go ZOMG CUM ON MY FACE PLEASE CUM AGAIN WOWOWOWOWOW

Even the most principled of video game journalists would be the first to tell you enthusiast press and normal press are entirely different animals. How many principles the former wants to have is almost a voluntary masturbation exercise. See: John Walker.

Yes, also a true journalist wouldn't be afraid to ask tough questions from a publisher in an interview, instead of nodding to everything.

Well, it's pretty safe to assume at least part of the audience is generally bought during such events to initiate ovations. XBox One reveal in particular comes to mind, although apparently even that sometimes doesn't work as intended when faced with truly disappointing news.

True. It's funny how journos will skin politicians with their questions but when it comes to gaming "journos" - devs and PR-tards are treated like it's communism outside.
