This new Thief game is a fucking insult to the old devs. Are there no such thing as professional courtesy in the video game industry?
Fuck those losers. Gotta get with the times, man.

I was pessimistic about Thi4f but then I remembered a simple principle of modern games: the bullshit surrounding them is usually more interesting than the game itself.

Typical gaming industry bullshit said:
we didn't want to change that much because it was kinda working already.
...but if it wasn't our opinion that it was working, we'd have turned him into a pony in a heartbeat.

We wanted to bring in more for the modern audience of today's console market...

Do devs actually think this fools anyone anymore? It's like when corporate drones tell you "rest assured that blah blah ..."—whenever I hear that phrase, I immediately brace myself for an intense onslaught of bullshit.

For example black nails and things like that
:retarded:

I think he puts a lot of time and effort into how people are thinking and how they might react I also think that this can extend to him as a character that when he takes something, possibly of emotional value, it's maybe not just a ring to him now it's what the ring may have meant before. Let's be poetic, stealing sometimes what he might not be able to have himself, because he's such an independent spirit.
What the fucking shit am I even reading here?

Make them stand out in a crowd of NPCs [...] but that's a good thing he needs to stand out when he is in a crowd.
Yeah, because a thief really wants to stand out? There's even a cinematic at the beginning of The Dark Project telling us about how keepers had the ability to remain unseen and unnoticed even in plain sight, but apparently Garrett is now flamboyant as hell.

I don't even want to continue. This whole thing makes it so ridiculously, painfully obvious that they don't know a single fucking thing about Thief. Like, we already knew that, but couldn't they lie even half-way convincingly? Christ almighty.

We wanted to bring in more for the modern audience of today's console market is now in the game doing more action move and that's how we wanted the costume and the suit to reflect that. In the beginning it was kinda more gothic, we turned down all the things that feels gothic. For example black nails and things like that, we don't have that anymore. We wanted to make him a bit more mainstream on that but yes so dark character but we don't want to say that he is a gothic one and things even though the victorian period feels really gothic

NC: He's really seen as an anti-hero and we wanted to prove ourself that kind of hero was fitting with today's market. And that a mean character can also be mainstream. So with the Joker and the movie The Crow and all those inspirations come for us to give a good direction.
Business words detected! Decline protocol activated.
There is an awesome action sequence where Garrett, whose parents were killed by an evil duke for no reason (but Garrett sweared he will get his revenge) has to steal a ring from duke's captain of the guard.
My parents were killed so i will become a Batman crime fighter? That's plausible.

Dodged a bullet there.

I haven't even tried the dark mod yet, I've been waiting for it to go stand-alone. It looks very promising, how polished/unfinished is it currently?
It's a functional, slightly updated take on Thief 2. Some of the earlier versions were rough around the edges, but it's generally very smooth now, and things like AI behaviour has received a significant improvement in the last update. I'd like some more refinement on sound propagation, but otherwise, it works as intended. Bugs are minor, although installation isn't problem-free on some configs (that said, someone on the forums can always help). The asset base is robust enough to cover most aspects of thievery except "creature" missions (like Escape and Strange Bedfellows). The next version will focus on standalone.

There are around 65 missions at the moment. Whether that's a lot or not is pretty subjective, but you've got a decent range from small break-ins all the ways to huge, complex maps. Some of us are also working on a campaign, although progress has been glacial lately due to burnout/IRL commitments.

The custom editor is very user-friendly, and I kinda wonder why more people haven't taken it up. Someone could start with the basics tutorials and have a small, simple map finished in a few weeks.

Sadly only for french codexers, this thief parody is too funny to not post :

My french is non-existent but even watching it like that is funny.

Man, I really have to check it out.

Well, anyway, back to the dark mod. Hey, do you know you can disable the light gem in the Dark Mod? I mean, if you swing that way, challenge-wise, you can do it.

Any news on the standalone version that runs without Doom3? And any progress on the campaign?

TDM campaign will be the real Thi4f.

I've never been very good at stealth games either but I am genuinely excited for this game. My problem with stealth games is I get all OCD and try to go back and try another way that'll get a different outcome. I mean, it got so bad for me with Dishonored that I only beat around two missions of the game and gave up (not because it was bad, but because the numerous options for approaching a mission overwhelmed me).

This is why we can't have nice things. :(

This is much worse:

And really, the first 2 Thief games are so old,im sure the gameplay would feel outdated

The faggot doesn't even consider playing Thief 1/2 because he is sure the gameplay would feel "outdated" because they are "so old". Ffs.

Actually I plan on doing a fan mission one of these days, just never got around to it due to being busy. I've done the tutorials and know the basics of the editor, I'll first have to make some floorplans though so I don't get stuck in the middle of creating a mission, wondering how the fuck to lay out the second floor (which happened to me the first time I attempted making something).

That's it, I'm writing this game off as a colossal failure and a massive middle finger to the true fans of the series.

I don't get it, how can people be this stupid? When you have a franchise that hasn't seen a release in nearly 10 years, and yet has an active fanbase creating new content for it to this very day, 15 years after the franchise first started, how can anyone be so stupid as to totally and absolutely ignore the fanbase? That is exactly what's going on here. These guys have no idea what Garrett is about, let alone what Thief as a whole is all about. It's a game that lets you be an action figure, but doesn't reward you for it. It's a game that rewards players that show patience, discipline and awareness, not the players with twitch-finger reflexes and total disdain for their in-game surroundings..
Well this isn't the first and this will most certainly won't be the last.
Bur don't get me wrong this sequel fad is certainly not exclusive to games as they are sadly doing it to movies for years.

And this is why devs nowadays can get away with hyping a feature as "REVOLUTIONARY, FIRST TIME EVER A GAME DOES THIS" even though it has been done 20 years ago already. Because none of the console kids care cause lol, a game that old is outdated anyway.

Decline, decline everywhere.

To protect his eyes from all the dirt and grit flying around in that dark and gritty city while he sprints over the rooftops.
