I still get the vibe that none of these multiplatform diluted genre pseudo-open world Arkham Asylum third person mocap action adventure with "deep complex RPG mechanics" (enemy down +10exp lel) actually sell to the masses that they seem to be pitched towards. CDP and Eidos made a big deal about TW2 and HR on consoles respectively and I personally knew maybe two console gamers looking forward to them coming out on their platform. That's the worst part I think, that the developers are all declining their series towards these incredibly mediocre hodgepodge games that don't do any mechanics particularly well, and at the end of the day nobody even cares - so the developers are just as clueless and incompetent at declining their games as the games themselves are!

I'm not sure Dishonoured was ever meant to be a stealth game per se.

It was supposed to be a "broad" immersive sim type of game where you could do all sorts of things, stealth among them, much like Deus Ex.

Yeah but it has a combat system is way more popamole than Deus Ex Human Revolution and it is obviously the template that Eidos Montreal is using in Thi4f that is marketed as a stealth game.

Fuck me that was horrible. They even have a focus ability for pinpointing where a guard is by their steps.

Shouldn't that be done by, you know, FUCKING LISTENING TO THE STEPS?!

I really hope that article that was posted weeks back suggesting that the game is in serious development hell and mismanaged all over the place is true. I really hope this shit gets cancelled because it looks terrible and Thief doesn't deserve this.

Is far clearer and much more effective at putting the player on edge than any "SUSPICIOUS/ALERTED" or other indicators that "modern" "stealth" games have.

Also I'm pretty sure I heard some actual swearing in that video, taffing cripes.

experience points for kills, extra rewards for head shots
"press x for takedown" popups
shit, worthless ai
achievement popups
"new" voice actor trying to exactly imitate the original
ability to see through walls
no shadow stealth of any kind
3rd person kill cams when subduing an enemy
slow motion effects

No one could do a better parody of this than they've already done

This game looks horrible.

Darkness is green instead of black? Check!

Guard AI seems completely broken and unresponsive? Check!

Stupid HUD elements, wheel menus and crap everywhere? Check!

Increased focus on action? Check!

No longer trial and error puzzle-platform style gameplay? Check.

Small, confined, closed in levels? Check!

Extremely low FOV that looks like 50-60 or so? Check!

Awesome button takedowns? Check!

No real disincentive for playing like a murdering madman, when previously it was because you lost if you didn't master the stealth mechanics, aka the entire point of a stealth game? Check!

Fuck, even the developer presenting the game didn't seem to know what the fuck the game was supposed to be. He didn't even have a good answer for how the whole "thieving" element fits into gameplay. Judged as its own game with no connection to Thief, it could be good. But when judged as a Thief game, it's just a sad, pathetic disgrace. Deadly Shadows was a million times better than this.

also wtf the combat is just assassins creed shit again, every game is doing this. why the fuck dodes the guard just stand there and wait to attack u, garrett has a fucking blackjack and the guard is using a ssword why would he not just rush him and crush his skull like the hammerites in the original game did.

At least the in game map looks ok (if i understood it correctly). But then Dishonored also put most resources in first few levels then went lazy with linearity later.

I don't know how they managed it, but watching that gameplay video, the game actually looks a lot worse than I imagined it would. There is nothing remotely Thief about it. Not a single thing.

This game is a fucking disaster. It's like they got a list of shit that hardcore Thief fans hated and considered sacrilege, and decided to make a Thief game checking off every single one of those items on the list.

I feel sick to my stomach. There is no god.

After the first 5 secs of the video when I saw that message popping up above the head of the guard stating "Suspicious" I decided not only to stop immediately, but to boycott Eidos Montreal from now on entirely.
