Wonder what release caused that spike. Nevermind, it's the start of the Summer Sale. The spike ended just after the sale's end. Presumably just normal "Doesn't work on my PC" type stuff. Does give good insight into just how much Steam purchase traffic spikes during sales though. Spike a few days ago (20th) seems more interesting though.
No big releases in June, except
  • Destiny 2: The Final Shape (PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One) - June 4
Players are leaving that game in droves.
But it was crazy high for most of the July too, so who knows.

Welcome to the Age of Bombing that follows its predecessor, Age of Decline, friends!
Suicide Squad will have nothing on AC: Shadows and DA4!

Consumers were mostly playing older games in 2023, report suggests

Newzoo data indicates 60 percent of playtime went to 6-year-old or older games

Nvidia marketing must be genius, being able to ship the most expensive GPUs in history regardless. And it's not as if there's a bucketload of choice even for new blockbusting games. Given that fewer studios are making those, thanks to the massive ressources required for these behemoths. With entire task forces dedicated to rendering horse balls alone. And even once they're done, balls and all, they're taking ~half a decade to ship as a bare minimum.

Selling fridges to Eskimos? n00b stuff. RTXes to Fortniters. That's the benchmark from now on.

People love their toys, even if they have no real use.

It is ridiculuos how much the hardware envelope is being pushed, and how badly games are using it.
240Hz 4K monitors, still not enough - 480Hz 4K and 8K are coming...
What kind of GPU can deliver 480FPS on 4K, even with frame generation and all DLSS tricks?

On the other hand, every new AAA game has to be compatible with 5 year old console, so even ultra details are not that impressive.
Higher end 4xxx are for what? Maybe mods that unleash full visual potential of the games.

Based on Steam wishlist and preorder "rumors", Veilguard will not bomb as Concord, but it will not sell that well.
This doesn't have to mean that much, but we are a month away from the reckoning.

Rumor: ‘Dragon Age: The Veilguard’ Retail Pre-Order Sales Are “Piss Poor”
Over on Steam, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is currently the 42nd most wishlisted game according to SteamDB’s Most Wishlisted Upcoming Steam Games. It has 59,441 followers.

The game sits behind The Forever Winter, Gothic 1 Remake, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire, and Arc Raiders.

The latest console generation ushered in the era of diminishing returns. Nothing's going to look significantly better than this for a long time.

Considering that you could make and send a kid to school in the time it takes for these games to cook regardless -- it's not all bad news, is it?

TES VII gonna release in 2050ish, you heard it here first. And the first one to apply TRUE photorealism (apparently the only ambitious long-term goal of this industry) is gonna be the one that will occupy a team of thousands for years. Just to render Toddster's knight riding on horseback. Running around. And killing a single thing -- the rest of 'em things are gonna be lots of work in progress for another couple seasons.

No matter how long it takes to Bugthesda to release an elder scroll game, it will always come out full of bugs, they have the label "Bugthesda" since 1994 with TES 1 Arena.

OP didn't age well.

Wake me up when Exodus and Clockwork Revolution release.

Not my fault VtMB2 and Avowed delayed their games.

It was super predictable though.

VtMB2 is still showing concept art and Unreal editor screengrabs instead of actual footage lol.

This industry is one endless joke.

Future shock was damn annoying to play and finish. I'd like to see that shooter repolished tbh. I haven't tried to run in in a long time.

Look at that list of games.

And here is their only cancelled games?

VtMB2 will never come out. If it does, it will be buggy and unfinished, sell like crap, and result in studio closure. VtMB1 fans will think this makes it a very faithful sequel

Tempted to change my vote to DA4 on account of how it's now openly off-putting to normal people in a way that Bloodlines 2 doesn't appear to be (so far), but I dunno. It might still be a more functional game.

TES7 will be a FMV, with QTE for premium accounts. All in hyper-advanced CGI.

I guess we have a winner. So, now that the dust from Veilguard has settled, what was your enjoyment from the launch fiasco?

Mine: :4.5/5:

Watching reddit, journos and bioware defenders twist themselves into a knot trying to praise this garbage (only to flip days after) has been one of the most entertaining spectacles of the modern gaming age. Could've been better, but I'm not complaining. Definitely not bad for the price of free.

I voted for VTMB2, but Veilguard surpassed my expectations. Definitely one of the most entertaining launches in the last few years.

I'm disappointed with Bloodlines 2 and Avowed not coming to the party. The grill would be better with more meat on it.
