Yeah, that one is a total kick in the nuts. Kickstarter won't make an exception either. Understandably. But what a kick in the nuts.

Shaker's kickstarter was even worse and more poorly planned and they made it to a quarter mil. Not fair. I noticed that Brenda only gets art credit on Shadows over Riva. Henkel was the executive producer and a programmer FFS. I'd like to see Mr. RoA get back into PC games again, but I guess that's not going to happen. Maybe he could collaborate with InXile in some way on a future game. A turn-based combat consultant or something. Obsidian doesn't need his turn-based design skills because they already have Tim Cain. I know Henkel is not eating out of dumpsters or anything but it's sad to see the RoA master making stuff like this. I'd say he could be someone's stretch goal, but IIRC he's just not interested in that sort of thing. But if he really wanted to make PC RPGs again he would try again with a different pitch and a lower budget. I don't think you really need a million dollars to make a fun PC RPG. If nothing else this proves that a kickstarter comaign is not easy even when you have a history and some name recognition. You have to take it as seriously as pitching to a publisher and you have to have some way of letting people know about it or it's pointless.

I don't know. I acknowledge that is a sad situation but every time I read about it I can't help but smile.

Of course I'm referring to the MULE clone, because Thorvalla being canceled is indeed a sad thing.

Yeah, but Shaker was all over the game media with big exclamation marks, and big names in the gaming industry talking about how awesome it was going to be. That's why it got so far.

So he gave up, just like that, after one of the weakest and the most unprepared pitches ever. What a defeatist. How the hell did he even get the idea that it would be that easy? Given the circumstances, I would doubt his ability to follow through with the development were he to get all the money he wanted.

But not all is lost. The project may not have found the backing we needed to make it a reality, but if nothing else, it showed us that many of you do care. The 1,300+ backers, the countless messages and posts are testimony to that, not to mention the generous financial support many of you pledged. Many of you wanted to see this game made very badly, and we know how disappointed you must feel at this time.
Not all is lost! All is lost!

It's a shame but better this way. If I were in his position I wouldn't fully neglect to give it another try in a couple of months.

Yes, with some more PR around it, and a somewhat more informative pitch.
While I had enough trust in his abilities to make a good game to not care too much, I can understand that many potential backers would have required more information to be convinced.

If he returns, and it is after January, I will allocate a small portion of my debt to the future kickstarter.

This situation is so overwhelmingly absurd I barely motivate myself to answer.

Let's start with a rhetorical question bouncing under my skull: what the fuck Thorvalla and Guido Henkel is?!

This all is fucking funny. I'm dying to write rubbish as a developer of game I never head of. Best entertainment ever. Next will be Fargo, for my writing skills aren't at MCA's godlike level. All from the same IP, otherwise it wouldn't be so fun. And the best of all, at least one of the moderators seemingly believe it.

It's pretty much obviously fake, in my opinion. I would happily nuke or at least discourage AngryKobold for this, but luckily for him anyone can use an open proxy so I can't say for sure whether it's his alt or not.

For... what? If you're so convinced I'm that dumb, go ahead and do it! I'll create a new shiny account. Apparently you think a not brain- dead human being could do role- playing from the same IP. Someone here lost his mind and it ain't me.

As for proxy: I do use random servers for regular web browsing and it will not change soon.

lulz, no one was really giving it much thought, but by posting such an angry butthurt post, you just made yourself pretty suspicious. Just an FYI. Sometimes it's better to be quiet.

But whatevz.

I suppose, if you're not a fake, you're crazy enough to thrive in here. Or crazy enough to entertain us, anyway.

Deity speed, and such.

Wyrmlord, I think if Henkel asked for 100k, he easily would have got it. He just didn't have a pitch good enough to ask for 1 million.

Just the someone's attitude and perspective of going again through this.. "moderation queue" makes me so happy. Call it mild irritation.

But whatevz. I'm not gonna doing one- person cabaret here.

G.Henkel (Today)
Country: Anonymous Proxy

:hmmm:
AFAIK we don't take impersonations lightly. especially not of developers.
this could be anyone using a proxy service that AngryKobold has happened to use.
it could also be that AngryKobold is an alt, and so is this.
could also be a third party impersonating henkel.

it could also be henkel, but it's unlikely, as he has never signed off with "-G.Henkel" before.
Is it really that big a deal?
