Last few months have been such a snoozefest with boring updates. When are we getting Chaos Dwarfs? Not touching this game again until that happens.
The game will receive its one true campaign in a month or two and you already want more?

Tsk.

That doesn't count, it was always going to be in.

So are Chaos Dwarves.
Nobody has any doubt that'll be the next race.

I didn't doubt it either at first, but now it's keeping me up at night.

Good sir, let me preach the gospel of the ze Lady and sell you on Bretonnia:
Nope. I've tried playing Brets in Wh2, unless cavalry got a rework while I wasn't looking, I'm not interested. I will only ever at most want 2 cavalry units in my army, because that's as much as I can possible stand cyclecharging and siege deadweight. So having a faction that's all about cavalry is a no go.

I'm kind of the same way.
Give me some method to enable cavalry cycle-charging on their own (toggleable like skirmish mode) and I'll start playing cav heavy factions. But until then.... nope. Too annoying.

Though as was said, you definitely don't HAVE to play Bretonnia cav heavy, they support other playstyles.

i only played with the CTT mod, so i dont know how brettonia cavarly performed in vanilla. i was never able to break a unit, even trash tier with repeated charges on the back or otherwise. letting them in melee for a even a split second ment loosing many models from already miniscule units (CTT aleviates this with the realm host knights that have 64 men per unit).
I remember CTT Bretonnia being really good, especially the higher tier, but I don't remember what patch I played (CA has broken charge at least twice).

I get it, it's not for everyone, although you don't have to play Bretonnia strictly as a cavalry faction in my opinion. The Fay Enchantress, Prophetess, and Damsels open up magic and infantry focused playthroughs. The only cavalry I would say is a no-brainer is the Hippogyrph Knight, because those birds fuck.

Let me instead preach about gentleman slave farmers providing local populations with life-long employment, and sell you on the Dork Elves...

I recall Bretonnian cavalry being pretty good against all but the toughest motherfuckers around (like Black Orcs) that refuse to get knocked around at all by charges. But what Bretonnia really excels at is lords, since the lack of supply limit means that there's no reason not to have every army with 3 extra lords following them around. You spec the 3 who aren't leading armies fully into personal combat and get tons of items that allow them to pretty much massacre most things all on their own. The enemy can deploy whatever BS lord they want like Malus or Grimgor and you'll be all like "you came to the wrong neighborhood asshole" as 4 buffed lords on horses charge in and take him out in seconds. Add a bit of magical AoE and healing and you win all but the hardest fights without even using an army.

Also Bretonnia is nice is that they are one of the few factions with reasonable victory conditions that don't require conquering half the map.

EDIT: Just checked the stats out and for reference Bretonnian lords get 72 base melee defense with their personal combat line maxed, but even better can chain Stand Your Ground forever at high level which buffs that to 96. Pretty incredible, you'll probably be well over 100 with some decent equipment. Around 170 charge bonus with Deadly Onslaught active is what ensures enemy single entities have no chance against you.

EDIT2: Now that I think about it, a Lord and Heroes only game as Bretonnia sounds kind of fun. Haven't touched WH2 since WH3 came out but maybe I shall now...

I never thought to chain Stand Your Ground. I will try a playthrough after the shitshow that will be Malus.

OK this is fucking funny. I've never seen an autoresolve give a heroic victory. I thought you only got a heroic victory by winning a fight that the autoresolve said was a lost cause. I guess it's actually given for winning a fight where your army is valued (in cost) much less than the enemy?

This is on legendary/very hard too.

Unfortunate finding: Bretonnian lords and heroes have no way to destroy walls until Hippogriph mounts unlock.

Or maybe sieges aren't an issue if the AI just sallies out every time.

EDIT: OK this campaign is hilarious. AI is insanely aggro on your 4 lords because it thinks its an easy battle and throws endless half-finished armies at them that you can autoresolve away as heroic victories (which give more XP than a decisive victory). I genuinely wonder if this is possible even on WH2 factions that get full supply line penalties, your armies will still be relatively cheap and if the AI is going to play this dumb against it...

Dark Elves are fun, but the last campaign I did in WH2 was IE Morathi.

If you don't mind mod you can try playing one of the OvNs faction.

Rotblood has fun roster of Chaos, Skaven, and unique units. I had fun with Araby.

For non-mod if you haven't done reworked Beastmen its probably fun to do once.

That's some rather quick Chivalry gain.

Also the green knight sadly underperforms. Seems to have worse mass for pushing things out of the way because he's a ghost.

TOTAL WAR: WARHAMMER III – INTRODUCING FESTUS THE LEECHLORD

TOTAL WAR: WARHAMMER III

CA Evangelos
July 26 2022

Hello Total War: WARHAMMER community! Today we’re revealing the second Legendary Lord joining the Champions of Chaos Lords pack—Festus the Leechlord—coming to Total War: WARHAMMER III on August 23rd.
Doctor Festus is a deranged devotee of Nurgle who pledged a lifetime of service to the Plague God in return for his forbidden knowledge. He goes to war with few intentions beyond furthering his revolting studies of sickness, ailments, and plagues… It is a far better fate to die on the battlefield than to be captured for the doctor’s experiments!

ON THE BATTLEFIELD…

Long forgetting the Hippocratic Oath he so vehemently preached as a mortal, Festus can be found concocting a variety of horrific potions and unleashing Lore of Nurgle spells, both of which allow him to manipulate the battlefield in insidious ways. While his Healing Elixirs ability replenishes the hit points of his own combatants, the Harbinger of Pestilence ability instead deals damage to enemy combatants. Yet there’s a catch: both act more like toggleable passive abilities that are mutually exclusive to use (meaning that only one of the two can be active at any one time).

FACTION EFFECTS

  • Vassals gain poison attacks and spread Nurgle’s corruption
  • Can brew Plagues
  • Souls +25 when a plague is spread

LORD EFFECTS

  • Plague duration: +3 turns (local armies)
  • Battle healing cap: +25% (Lord’s Army)

UP NEXT

We’ll be sharing an even more in-depth look at Festus in a Let’s Play video coming TOMORROW, so look for that over on the official Total War YouTube channel. Then, keep your eyes peeled for more news about the third Legendary Lord joining the Champions of Chaos next week!

WTF is this mobile Nurgle altar thingy. I love it.

Looks like a Chaos War Shrine. They mentioned there will be 4 marked and an undivided variant in a blog.

This teasing is getting lame. This isn't some massively hyped new shit, it's the bare minimum they can do to appease fans after the disaster of the launch.

They are desperate to keep players attention until immortal empires can be rushed out. AAA games always have player numbers drop off FAST and if they don't have high numbers for immortal empires it'll torpedo their whole DLC plan.

Meh, this is just the usual shit CA type promotion they always do. Only this time the factions were leaked very early so their drip feeding approach and scripted 'funny' videos are even more unbearable.
This promotion campaign was also probably greenlit by some suit some months ago and CA can't react in real time for shit. They are basically playing with ping 999.

As for the future of DLC I think getting players back matters more for big, new races type of dlcs. If they can't get enough people in IE we can kiss things like a possible Ind and Kuresh dlc goodbye, but they'd be stupid to not still go for low hanging fruits like units/lord packs for existing races, especially ones that had army books..
