Purchased the Trilogy recently, as there was a strange price dip and it's about $23 on gray sites.

Haven't played Total War for a long time. The last one was Medieval 2: Kingdoms I think, plus Empire tutorial campaign.

Despite some recommendations, I started from the first game. Just wanted to see how it all started, plus there is an actual narrative for the races that's missing from later games.

- The experience wasn't much different from the usual Total War. I read they were really careful with the first game, but went full hard on with TWW2.

- "New" garrison mechanic is strange. On the one hand, you have less to worry about and less micro management. On the other hand, you're less flexible and can't move armies without a lord and raising an army is a financial hit early on.

- There is almost no water, but I read there are no naval battles even in TWW2 and TWW3. Is this some sort of Fantasy Battles thing or CA is just lazy? Ships do not seem to serve any purpose and you can't even block a port.

- Global map AI is still retarded. They make military alliances with you to wage war on their neighbors, and yet they don't even help you against a common enemy. I was cleansing Karak Norn from Crooked Moon as Empire, while dwarfs were sitting on their butts in their cozy cave.

- Lords and heroes are much more powerful than in previous games, but so far Empire magic didn't impress me. Helstorm artillery units were much more impressive than amber and bright wizards.

- Despite the age, graphics, animation and battles in general are still impressive.

So far I'm enjoying the game and currently defending against Chaos invasion as Empire. Kislev was turned into a meat grinder as I wasn't able to make any kind of alliance and Chaos (along with trolls and everyone else coming from the north) just stomped on it.
