I just finished with the Foundry quests and have access to super steel and infused leather. Yay or Nay? Should I create a Tactical Vest with Super Steel sheet? I'm still keeping the loot I got from the Protectorate Outpost, 1600 quality Tactical Overcoats and Ninja Tabis. I pushed my electronics to 140 effective and now can craft shields with more than 1000 capacity.

I'm not wrapping my head around the most efficient shield so I'll craft a High-High shield with extended capacity for gunslinging enemies and a Low-Low one for critters and the ocassional melee user.
high-high for guns and explody things, low-low for melee and crossbowniggers. Super steel sheet is a waste of super steel, you want it for weapons or for infusing leather

infused rathound got nerfed a while back if memory serves me right.

Id go for super steel sheet if you were playing something like bio or regenerative vest. With good energy shield you are better of higher dt

high-high for guns and explody things, low-low for melee and crossbowniggers.
wont nice low-low stop high damage guns/lazors anyway?

High-high will stop all of it, a low-low will stop most of it. You have to check the thresholds of your shield. 90% of the time i'll use a high-high, low-low is for expedition

I'm pondering if I didn't fuck myself over with a bad character and there is no way in hell I'm starting over.

Just restart. The early game will go by much quicker the second time with no learning curve. Classic XP is worth a couple more levels by the time you reach Depot A, which is huge, and if you pick one weapon and max it you'll be a lot stronger overall. Crafting is a damage multiplier for any build, but I would shy away from Psionics unless you play a full mage build where you can learn all the powers (or read the wiki).

If you can't restart, molotovs are the default problem solver. The Junkyard vendors should have plenty, just nape the muties into cinders. Easier if you have Chemistry but basic molotovs are still fine.

Got the itch and started playing this again. Gonna not fuck up Oculus this time, gonna play pure shooty gun man instead of cave wizard. So no psi but lots of bombs and shite. IRA gonna recruit me when I'm done. No stealth because I spent 50 points on that garbage the last time and it never stopped hurting. Also no persuasion because bullets are persuasive enough. Still taking hacking and lockpicking because I'm not made of stone. Must. Open. Boxes.

Question:

-Are there any unique gears that are worth building towards for Assault rifle? Like "these shoes give you extra movement after bursting" etc. ?

Fuck me, I've started expedition and went into the horticulture center. Went straight for the creeper vault and Styg really made the spiders too fucking realistic. Coil spiders did not hit me this hard because there were pretty fantastic so I suspended my disbelief. But the creepers are just too much.

Creepers were really boring and nonthreatening after killing 10,000 death stalkers in the base game imo.

Arachnophobia?
Used to be worse when I was a kid where I would refuse to touch any game that had spider enemies in it. After I turned 13 I kind of got used to them but any thic legged ones really trigger my phobia. For example, I played Oblivion and the spider daedra were meh. It was a drider and fantastic enough for me not to care. I could never play Skyrim because the spiders there were way too realistic. If the spider enemy falls in the uncanny valley, I don't care. If it's detailed and realistic, then I get cold sweats. If it's giant fucking tarantulas like in Underrail, I'm 2 steps away from quitting the expedition and just going to the wiki for all the lore details.

Even worse? There are stealthed spiders. I was shooting my AR when a stray bullet got one out of stealth.

Edit: I wanted to pump my crafting some more but my lvl 26 level up went all into throwing. I'm not missing a single grenade shot.

It's a shame you can't get a mod or something (afaik). Satisfactory has an arachnophobia mode that turns the spider enemies into pictures of kittens.

At worst, you can skip the centre and just go to Nexus.

Just the unique guns themselves. With the new refurbishment mechanic unique ARs are incredibly good, especially N16, KH416 and Steyr-Auch. I don't think they need anything you wouldn't already have on a regular AR build, though.

I feel that a mod would be cheating. If you build your combat around certain tactical situations, removing those obstacles would feel forced. On the other hand I don't know if it would make sense in the ecology of the lore to have giant spiders in the black sea. In Fallout New Vegas, most of the beast type enemies existed because some asshole in the Big Mt decided to splice the genes of the existing fauna. But imagine changing the spiders in the Black Sea for stick insects or praying mantises. It makes as much sense as anything. The crabs and sea serpents were a very nice touch, truth be told.

At worst, you can skip the centre and just go to Nexus.

I won't be a pussy. The game makes it fairly obvious where there will be spiders because the area will have cobwebs. Secondly, the map marks where the spider enemies are located so I can guess what areas to avoid. Ernest, the mutie from the camp says that the seas belong to the serpents, the swamp belongs to the syphoners, the beaches to the crabs and the caverns to the creepers. I'll avoid caverns as much as I can but if I'm underground and I see cobwebs I know what to expect.
Finally I have a disease called being a lorefag. I can supress my phobia long enough.

P.S. Before sailing to the black sea I did Phreak's quests. When he says "another cockroach" does it mean he was also visited by The Dude? Another lore question, were Abram and Wyat Ear friends in a past life?

Yeah well.

After reading your post I tried to keep going, but as soon as I exited the wormhole I was gang raped by dogs and other dudes who waited for me at the entrance of the map.

Restarted. Felt dirty and shameful. Maxed guns, melee (at the start it can be tough to get weapons and bullets), lockpick and hacking (because it's fun). Most important change is that I switched to classic XP. I feel dirty. I hope enemies respawn so I can abuse it and feel dirtier.

Classic overlevels you a bit, oddity gets you to level 30 if you do everything. On classic i can get to level 30 before ending expedition and even entering the final area. But that's on dominating, where there's high level enemies everywhere.

I resisted Oddity but I'm enjoying it now. It does make you recalculate cost/benefit differently as opposed to lawnmowing the map. It's fine.

Classic gets hosed in Expedition; it seemed like the mobs were barely worth any XP, but lots of oddities to find. Oddity gives you a more even experience so you don't hit the cap too early.

I used to hate oddity because i thought it was too meta-gamey (knowing where oddities are, how to get them, which enemies dropped them), but in the end oddity offers you a even leveling throughout the whole game. But i see no "shame" on playing on classic. There's some builds you want to level up faster, so go after those coil spiders for that sweet XP.

I have never hit the cap on Oddity. I finished lvl 28 usually. Then I started doing some areas I wasn't doing in order to approach 30, and now I finish 29. Still work to do!

I won't repeat again (although I am itching to) why Oddity is much better than Classic both in terms of gameplay and as an RPG system.

I've only played through the game on Oddity, but as I've said before, my character jumped like 4 levels immediately after Depot A and breezed through the rest of the game with the exception of Lunatic Mall, which I cleared at level 8.

A little reminder of our "prestigious" shitposter who claims that the game is easier than Shadowrun and easily beatable at that level:
Where is this "beating Dominating Underrail with a lvl6 character"? I have trouble believing it, and I want to see it.

From 2018. Not sure if it would still be possible now.

Edit: Well would you look at this:

"- I needed to save and load a lot more, even compared to Level 10, but I still didn't need to reload more than ~20-25 times at any given single place. There were a lot more places that I needed to reload ~10+ times though. Also, I skipped Carnifex, so these reloads were in mandatory/required spots, such as Hollow Earth TH44 manual stealthing or JKK Final Mission. I completed the Tchort Fight in under 30 minutes, with ~20 reloads and 6 total saves. I actually reloaded more on the first room of the JKK Final Mission than the Tchort Fight. Since I had already broken the Tchort Fight down to a science and a reproducible solution during all of my testing, I was pleased but not surprised that this was, relatively speaking, smooth and easy."

So in essence he needed save scumming two dozen times in multiple locations for his level 6 run but sure it is "easy" if you save scum and exploit the shit out of the game. It is like telling me exploiting crab merchant and alchemy bug leads to an easy Morrowind game. Worthless.
So take his claim with a big grain of salt.

Baka. That's talking about the dude that figured out how to beat the game at level 6, not me. I definitely did not skip Carnifex.
I was just refuting the idea that Oddity gives a smooth character progression. As soon as the rest of the game opens up after Depot A, if you walk to Core City, clearing each sector as you go, looking for all the loose Oddities, like I inadvertently did since I missed the exit to Rail Crossing, then by the time you get there you'll be way over-leveled for the rest of the game's content, which is already super easy given all the OP feats and gear you get by level 10-12. The game snowballs your characters growth and power without providing actual challenging content that matches it, which if you go back and look at my posts was the core issue I had with Underrail.
