I just started a new playthrough. Am I imagining things or is everything bigger? The UI elements all look bigger (my resolution is the same as always) and the camera even looks closer to the action.

Yeah, a recent update changed it. Interface size is in the interface options, zoom is adjusted with shift+mousewheel. You might need to specifically enable zoom adjustment in video settings though, I can't remember if it's on or not by default.
The game defaults to partially zoomed in for some fucked up reason, no idea why. It even resets every time you restart the game instead of remembering the last used setting. I hate it. It's only a little thing but I still hate it.

It's strange how the game claims that normal difficulty is the way it's meant to be played on the selection screen, but doesn't mention that oddity is the intended experience system. It's not like there's no room to say that.
Also, fuck the gauntlet. Shit design. I bet the reward is trash too.
Gauntlet randomly picks four floors out of eight options. So sometimes it picks the good ones and it's fun and sometimes it picks the shit ones and it sucks. A lot of them get much easier if you have stealth too.
So far it gave me the electric floor (bullshit), the siphoner one (would have been fine if there weren't like five of them on a single platform on the way to the elevator. I sniped and trapped my way through them but still), the burrower one (bullshit, can't even stealth through it because 10 spawn block the way when you destroy rocks), the web one (bullshit because the webs block the way to the containers. Other than that it's fine with a stealth character) and the box one (it's easy when you find out what they want) and the rathound one (murder closet but other than it's fine).

So far not a good impression.

Do they still support the game? I would like more sprites. A lot of equipment looks the same on the character.
I don't mind the weapon sprites looking the same, but they could have at least given more armour sprites. Even fallout tried to do that.
Also, all NVG look the same regardless of lens, and it makes it hard picking out the right one. It's not like goggles where you know which is which.

Is it possible to make a build that makes heavy use of energy weapons and psionics?
Intelligence is good to have with psionics and it gives a hefty damage boost to energy weapons, but you still need perception for the guns stats so you can actually high with them and you still need will for psi. Splitting points between will, intelligence, and perception seems to be spreading the stats pretty thin, especially if you want dex for that AP reduction on light weapons.

You haven't even gotten the worst one yet.

Look at that shit. Just one giant maze of doors which all have an opening animation that takes too long. And they automatically shut after a while too. It's so fucking bad.

I think it's done. Even if it's not they're not going to add more sprites because it's too much effort.
Infusion's using 3d models and is meant to be better in that regard. Also it displays helmets and boots and has character customisation instead of everyone being white guy with black hair and normal build so that's nice. Or at least it will be when it releases in 2028 or whenever.

Hey guys,

We've partnered up with Makeship to produce bespoke Rathound plushies that can be yours for the low price of $27.99. This is once in a lifetime opportunity and, unfortunately, all unpurchased rathounds will have to be fed into Organic Processor, so your money is actually going to a good cause - to give one of these Biocorp mishaps a home.

Here's the link: https://www.makeship.com/products/rathound-plush

Cheers,

Styg

Ordered one but....

the project fell through, got cancelled :?

I've been thinking about crossbows, are they decent?
I tried using them a little bit in my current playthough, in fact I put some points into them, only to find that guns do everything they do but more, with the exception of stealth but guess what, a silenced smg with opportunist is incredibly effective if you ambush a lone target with a taser or traps.

It seems to me that you have to pair crossbows with traps (there are feats for that) or versatility so you can use a pistol, knife or smg as a backup weapon. But if you're doing that you might as well go full dakka or choppa. Maybe psionics, but then you'd just go full psi.

Also, how viable is a pure chem pistol build, or is it a support weapon and you're supposed to use a real gun / energy weapon after getting the debuff off?

Not really, even though they synergize naturally, so to say. You can just stack up crit and obliterate everyone silently using special bolts. I've heared vers builds are nice too, yeah. Overall of course they are inferior to assault/smg in terms of raw power but to loud rounds, not to silent ones.

Crossbows are good. They're weaker than sniper rifles but the AP cost is way lower (pneumatic cyclon is only 14 AP per shot if you use the crossbow belt, while rapid spearhead is 26) so that makes up for it. You don't have AP ammo which is bad, but you have a variety of special bolts with different damage types so you can use them to get around armour instead.
You need to stack crit chance to make them good but it's not like that's hard. There are lots of ways to do that.

remember that throwing spears are better than xbows.

out of all 3 versatility pistols, ballistic ones seem the weakest? Chem pistol while strong requires minimal feat investment. Or to look at it in different lenses - rather than feats you need to up your chemistry and bio skills to gain access to cool toys

Yeah, ambush comes to mind. That scales off Effective stealth, right? So you can get like +30% crit chance with 100 effective stealth. There's a scope that increases crit chance too. Can you get to 100% crit chance, outside of aimed shot that is?

Anyway, I'm using sniper rifles right now and they are pretty strong. Being able to one shot most targets is pretty great. As a back up weapon I use a uzi with spec ops (the burst fire reduction one) and commando. Turns out crawlers don't like shock rounds that much.

Spears are Expedition only, right?
yes

What do you do if an enemy gets up close to you though? Don't you have to swap to another weapon?
depends on build/flavor you pick. For thrown spears you max both melee and throwing. I went with 3 STR and max DEX so I couldnt do melee with spear itself. However I did have plenty of movement to just outrun everything. Or dont run since you mostly execute enemies by throwing while sneaking. Eventually you reach range where nothing will be able to aggro you.
Since its max dex and melee, you can pick single versatility feat and have very decent lazor/acid pistol. Or just continoue doing uber throws even against resistant enemies, can attest that it works on dominating fine

I use a 4x speedhack in addition to the ingame boost, and use a hotkey to toggle off the speedhack as needed.

Can I leave the Institute of Tchort at will? I know that you can speak to the intercom and just say that you have to visit your village, but can I take as much time as I want, or do I have a time limit?
I don't want to go off and do some crafting, some selling and some exploring only to come back and the game is like "lol no, you took too long, everyone is hostile now"

Also, what happens if you fail the interview and reveal yourself to be a spy? I know it makes everyone hostile, but then how do you complete the main quest? Or does the game just keep spawning rassophores until you die?
You can fight your way to the elevator and just go down to the caverns at will.

Also, apparently there's a late game area called Deep Caverns that the game keeps mentioning.
Am I right in assuming that it's just critters? Should I take riot armor and not vest?
I'm running a stealthy sniper boi

I guess I could use leather, but those resistances suck and I have like no dodge or evasion.

The crit chance scope sucks and you should never use it. Crit damage scope is much better.
It's pretty easy to hit 100% crit chance with ambush. 8% base, 12% from medium quality seeker goggles, 15% from focus stim, 20% from the nonscaling part of ambush. That's 55% already, so 150 effective stealth to hit 100%. 150 effective isn't that much. Later in the game you can get better seekers/higher skill/maybe infused rathound leather so you can stop needing focus stim too.

Yeah, I'm using a q104 reaper stock with anatomical scope, bipod and rapid reloader, and it slaps about as hard as the old 12mm harbinger I found with Aimed Shot or Ambush. Snipe doesn't synergize too well with it though because it has lower raw damage.
I don't know about leather armor though. They seem to have the same armor penalty as tactical vests, but worse defenses. What am I missing?

Where do you even get high quality leathers? The highest I've seen drop so far is 64, and I'm doing the institute questline.
The max quality in vanilla is like 130, right?

How does this goddamn rune sketch work? It appears to be just a silly sketch that's doesn't lead me to any particular location! I don't feel bad slaughtering every smelly tribal after trying to workout their annoying graveyard crapola.
