Just speaking from a KS perspective, don't forget to release some regular updates (non stretch goal-related) with more info about the game/world/characters/whatever to keep momentum going between the campaign's beginning and end spikes. Obviously, your campaign is already successful, but keeping things churning during the inevitable dead spots of the campaign (no pun intended) can add up to significant gains.

Other than that, I do agree that humanizing animal races too much is decline. But I guess it is simply easier to have "humans but with animal heads" than to make a completely different models and animations for each different race.
