As far as I know you can buy weapons and you can find ammo. But Florian told me that the idea behind it was kind of in the first Matrix movie where they enter the lobby with lots of guns and just discard them when they are empty!

It's obvious to me that the point of this is that they don't want people to approach this game as a "shooter". Weapons are temporary, disposable, situational tools. You probably don't get to buy them and you don't find ammo either.

If you regularly come across ammo packs as you play the game but lose your weapon if you happen to use up your current stock then that would indeed be stupid, which is why I find it hard to believe that it's the case.

I'm imagining weapons in this game as similar to an arcade-style sidescrolling beat-em-up, where they're like power-ups that you find and use opportunistically.

It could also be that weapons are far cheaper than in Bloodlines and don't really do major scaling like in it.

I played a Bungie third-person brawler/shooter called Oni ages ago. Guns worked this way in it. I quite enjoyed the gameplay, mostly kicking things in the head interspersed with occasional pew pew pew.

I know it's gamey but it might work well for B2 as well.

(OTOH it's no more gamey than the ability to lug around a combat knife, baseball bat, katana, a couple of pistols, combat shotgun, assault rifle, and flamethrower while dressed up as a porny schoolgirl.)

Or even better, they might be taking a note from Yakuza's playbook where (even if you can carry a few weapons, they aren't meat of the combat like fists are) almost everything around you is a potential weapon and the focus is in the use of those weapons for finishers that usually break them. At the very least the idea of disposable weapons via special attacks makes it sound like niggas are getting blasted properly:



And it needs to be stressed out again, vampires of WoD are inherently better at melee combat than gunfighting, both because of their resiliency against bullets (though I suppose this should be amended a bit in that in V5 the resiliency is just the same against knives et al as well, and since bite tag is out as well the real hardcore combat potential in core is solely in high-level Potence where Aggravated damage against everything kicks in) and because of their inherent ability to power up their physical strength above human limits (that STACKS with Potence) and several of their abilities contrary to B1 don't benefit firearms (Celerity does not work with guns for example; albeit V5 does add an Celerity/Auspex amalgam ability that is for guns; just as a sidenote, V5 also managed the marvelous feat of unbreaking Celerity).

I'm not a lore expert, but this doesn't break anything for me. They're still superhuman monsters so they have to have something, and it's not going to be paintbrush powers. It makes sense to me that artists aren't gorilla take-it-on-the-chin types, that they'd develop super speed instead as a way to avoid hunters, catch prey etc.

No idea why, but they've always had celerity (the bullet time super speed power) as far as I know. The other original celerity clan was the Brujah who are the philosopher guys. There's probably some dumb lore explanation for everything but I think ultimately it was just so the arty talky clans would be able to actually contribute if a fight broke out without being too overpowered. They can take a lot of actions in order to make up for their inability to really do too much with them.


When they added all the dumb extra orders and bloodlines like the Assamites who had super combat powers AND celerity though it got stupid and nobody wanted to play anything else

I thought the issue with Toreador was that they were constantly chasing after short-lived adrenaline highs and gratification. Followers of Slanesh and Dark Eldar come to mind.

They(he and his friends) even rented a ranch so they could roleplay as a bunch of vampires, wearing some weird clothes and thinking they are the coolest people in the world. The purpose of role playing games should be role playing a character. LARPing is when a bunch of silly people dress up and role play without rules (or with minimal rules for conflict resolution).

It's true that a more than trivial amount of people do the dress and ham it up thing with V:tM since it's relatively easy to do (don't need any special fantasy/sci-fi clothing and such) and the system was intentionally made light enough so as to not get in the way of the role playing (hence why it's called storyteller/storytelling). When it comes to more grognardy systems like D&D, weirdos like Critical Role are more of an exception (anecdotally I've seen people new to role playing express both frustration and elation that the groups they join aren't like that at all).

Yeah no, shrugging the issue off because some systems are less prone to have weirdos is inclooosive politics in a bad way, it still opens up an opportunity for furfag-tier mental illness to plague PnP RPGs even for fantasy settings, especially now with present day cosplay dressing "culture". Complex ruleset is not a gatekeeper, complex ruleset of Cyberpunk 2020 doesn't prevent fucktards from dressing as fucktards on PnP sessions either. We're one step from "M.Lifshitz on Why am I not a PnP player" kind of editorial/manifesto.
