There's not a lot of reason to keep the developers a secret.
On the other hand, there's no reason at all not to.

The number of people who:
* are hyped enough about the game to care who the developer is;
and
* will boycott (abandon) the game over not being told immediately
is statistically zero.
What about forgotten pre-orders though? I still wouldn't want to rock the boat if there's just, say, 20k people worldwide who didn't refund.

They're still sending me ads for preodering bloodlines 2. I should clickthrough on one of those and see what happens.

At this point I'll just make my own damn vampire rpg.

Fuck, I guess I have to now.

Don't limit yourself to vampires. The world needs good urban fantasy.

If I do, it'll be cyberpunk vampires with porn.

This joke went right over my head.

They just had a Vampire Jam at itch.io (https://itch.io/jam/vtm). Most of the entries are visual novels and the few real games that I tried were quite bad, showing that making a FPS/RPG hybrid for example is not easy!

I saw that. I'm sure visual novels, FPS/RPGs have an audience, but I'm sticking with what I know best. Isometric cRPGs with turn-based grid combat.

But if you include other supernatural beings then you have the possibility of breeding them together to multiclass them.

I'm proposing Berlin for skinhead Anarch gangs led by Himmler himself, or Chicago for Methuselah rivalry goodness.

Or better yet, avoid any of the cities detailed in the published material to have free reign over your creation.

and what's worse is that Bloodlines fans will never let them live it down.

Indeed, we are nothing if not vengeful. At least we Fiends.

Anyone who forgot their preorder isn't following development anyway. The fewer announcements the better as far as they're concerned.

Yeah I shill Chicago because I want a game set there, caught me red handed. But best VtM games are made when they are based on where the devs live, so they can make a much more detailed world, I agree.

Like Seattle :)! That fits to both conditions and this is why Mitsoda placed the original Bloodlines 2 there...

The number of people who:
* are hyped enough about the game to care who the developer is;

This category of people numbers tens of thousands at most, maybe even 100-200k if we're being really optimistic. Even if every single one of them buys the game at full price, I'm not sure how this game turns a profit when you take into account that all those years of development by the so-called "star team", i.e. Mitsoda and his harem, have to be thrown away and reworked from scratch.

Unless Paradox were paying Hardsuit Labs wages that are significantly under the legal minimum, the only way Bloodlines 2 actually makes them some money is if it at least slightly breaks into the mainstream, defies all expectations and sells 'bout a million copies (or more, of course).

Can they pull it off? Maybe. There just may be combo of truly desperate nostalgia fags who will buy anything that reminds them of their youth and the VtM and/or Bloodlines days of yore, coupled with zoomers who think the (in)famous Rudi is the best character EVER!!!! and of course, people who know little-to-nothing about VtM or WoD, but they saw a flashy, compelling video advertisement that told them to CONSOOM, and CONSOOM they will. After all, the latter tactic s how Cyberpunk 20-who-the-fuck-cares sold more copies than the fucking Bible, despite being total garbage on almost every level.

True, the "boycott" will be unsuccessful, as it always is, because GAYMUHS are degenerate animals who lack even the bare amount of basic human dignity or self-respect.

Ask Jenkem I don't think he ever got his pre order money back.

I can refund it at any time to Steam.

I choose not to.
