Well yeah. None of the companions NPCs are really "pro" built, are they? I don't know, I'm talking out my ass anyway, I'm not a Supreme Jerk munchkin so I don't care about high optimization, I just played on Ranger I think and Ralphy did fine.

Its not even about "pro" build because even if we go RP build route there is no reason to forgoe getting even numbers on coordination or sticking to 1 int, 4 int, 8 int or 10 int. Whats the point with those stupid 2-3 point in builds? I mean for example I like Scotchmo and use him quite often despite being "sub optimal" but all he lacks is basically 1 int and he is good to go. Rest depends on what you like but he offers a decent platform to build upon. He won't ever be a combat monster but he is a good clean-up sweeper who can get rid of low HP targets, cover or groups of weaker enemies.

Of course the main reason I get him is that he is hilarious. Not Jan Jansen hilarious but going a similar direction in terms of absurdity albeit different reason behind it.

I do have Wasteland 2 Director's Cut but I have not really felt like playing it yet. I am still curious to know of it contains more content than the base game.
Is for example the New Citadel any larger now?

Encounters were redesigned, but there's no new content.

Oh, that is a shame, I really found Los Angeles rather poorly developed after Arizona and I had hoped Inxile had taken the opportunity to bring back some of the cut content like Dugan's factory, the Gippers/La brea Tarpits, and expanded the New Citadel into something more better as I found the original place rather boring in design after hearing so much about it.

Looking back, I am kind of disappointed that I backed this game on Kickstarter.

I didn't really get far at the time, got to distracted by other things, so I probably missed out on the better elements.

Arizona has a cohesiveness to it that I appreciate but the quest structure is just much better in California. That puts it over the top despite that unfinished feel.

The only part of LA that felt unfinished to me was Seal Beach. Every other area had plenty of content. I'm glad they heavily de-emphasized combat crawling up until the end. :M

I think it has plenty of content, but it sometimes feels underdeveloped Each of the cities / cults seem themeparky (yeah AZ has this to some extent too) and isolated from each other. They aren't connected in narrative or setting wise very well. You can take each location basically as it is. None of the other areas factor into your thinking while you are there.

But in AZ you have the various factions that have established relationships with each other both good and bad. In Highpool there are two main factions with loyalties to two different factions in different locations. Rail Nomad has ties to the Rangers, when you get there they talk about how they don't want them messing with their affairs. Yet you find a dead Ranger off to the side. That creates some intrigue even if the payoff was rather weak. The Red Scorpion's / Prison attempting to be their own Rangers style faction has that feel of affecting the area. And all throughout you have Vargas barking at you over your various actions. It all lends to the place being a community even when the in-game consequences are minimal and the scenarios are sometimes ham-fisted.

When I think of the difference between CA and AZ outside of the more nuts and bolts RPG aspects and questing; CA just lacks most of this.
Why don't the Mannerites have any presence anywhere else? Where is the evidence of Dengler trying to expand his distillery operations in other cities? Even in the many cases these relationships are purely portrayed through the radio in AZ, it adds to the narrative, setting, and motivations of the player.

Basically it seems like they never sat down after designing the major locations in CA and did a narrative pass over the whole area to make it connected. Even if it's just through the storytelling. There are a few exceptions like some quickie fetch quests but that's about it. Each area feels like a means to an end as opposed to you really thinking about the consequences of what happens. This was mainly a let down because I thought they did a pretty damn good job building a world out of similarly disparate locations/factions from WL1.

Fortunately, Valve somehow changed how free weekends works months ago. (Previously, Steam automatically added free-to-try games to every active users' libraries. Now users have to activate it at the store page to play it.) The impact will not enormous as before.

Take a look at the data of COD Black Ops III: http://steamspy.com/app/311210

It did free weekend last month.

edit: Or RPG Maker MV if you're not logged in there: http://steamspy.com/app/363890
