Exci can praise it too: fc5 is a pretty fun shooter with a lot of dynamism/randomness. ubisoft used to be able to stumble into making really good games from time to time.

it's still bad if you want it to be bad by being able to use companions or aircraft to cheese outposts by doing literally nothing at all, but if you want it to be fun and play only solo on foot on the highest difficulty and go for a mix of combat and stealth it's great.
ubisoft hadn't gone insane yet by adding in their fucking awful "RPG" looter shooter bullshit and healthbar systems like they did after FC5. that's why it was the last good one.

they also improved the game a lot vs 3 and 4 by removing the radio towers. probably tied in the top 3 games in the series.
Exactly, it is fun and there is lots to do in a repetitive but enjoyable way

Its not the type of game I would play again but its very entertaining, I also installed the Resistance Mod which allows you to install dozens of other mods so you can really tweak your overall experience

Cadaver (1990). Never played an adventure game of this type before and, holy crap is it hard. I'm still on the first level, got stuck several times, unstuck, but now I'm still missing one thing to be able to complete the level. Playing the Amiga version which lets me mess around with Amiga emulation, which is also something I haven't tried before.
Fucking finally figured it out! The sad thing is, I was on the right track, I just got one detail wrong. And that's only level 1 of 5 (9 if you count the expansion).

Decided to fire up Temple of Elemental Evil with the Co8 New Content and the Temple+ mods.
A wonderful game that could have benefited greatly from some more content, as some of the content added by Co8 is of questionable quality. However, there's also some improvements to enemy AI. Keep in mind that Toee is really rough (as oldschool low level D&D can be), expect some serious fights and a few dead characters if you're not prepared. I like the Welkwood Bog new content, also that seriously nasty ambush that takes place at your house in Nulb by Rannos or Gremag (whichever of the two you don't kill in Hommlet). That fight can fuck you up real good, I really gotta prepare for that and gain more levels.
Right now it's just the tedious Hommlet villager quest experience...

My brother asked if I have old Tomb Raider, asked if we could play it. I have the GOG version of 1, 2 and 3. I put 2880 as the horizontal resolution in the INI file for 4:3 ratio, but the black was on only the right side of the screen. Asked why we couldn't use a controller, I told him that I couldn't get it to work the last time. I tried customizing the controls, because my keyboard is 75%, but couldn't shoot with the action button after taking the guns out of her holsters. My brother asked if we couldn't just emulate the PlayStation version. I gave in. Much less a pain in the ass.

Only ever beat Tomb Raider 2 from the original series. Looking forward to playing Tomb Raider more. We both enjoyed it, agreed that modern games are far too automated and the developers put so much story and talking in because they have no confidence in the gameplay. He may get bored, in which case I will continue on my own.

I still don't like how Lara will often not jump, just like in the GOG version. He said it probably depends on which step she has taken. Don't remember that in Tomb Raider 2.

just pirate the remaster if you want controller support, more than 30 fps and modern conveniences. playstation version is alright too if you use CPU and GPU overclock hacks but those can break physics in a few places. i gave up on bothering to run the PC version(s) at all.

skill issue and it's the same in all of the original 5 games
lara needs approximately 2.5 steps to execute a running jump. stepping backward once gives you exactly how much you need.

Oh, I didn't know the remaster was on GOG. Assumed the publisher would not wanna put it there yet because it's so much easier to pirate without cracks. That would be why none of the modern Tomb Raider games are on GOG.

Some time later when i am drunk, maybe.
Currently looking for Doom mods that introduce new weapons or alter the classic gameplay formula in some way. Want to try something else before going for something obvious like Brutal Doom. Sonic L&L is actually a fun little expreiment of sorts.
gzdoom9HDv0OSQ12.png

gzdoomkaduXrvWg0.png

Basically "what if instead of being a Doomguy you were Sonic?". You already move at the speed of sound in your regular Doom and here the movement speed is tweaked to be even faster. There is even an option to boost/spind dash for further speed(can be used to run over enemies).
Aside from that you also have a lot of other mobilty options like drop dash that can be used as an attack or lock-on dash which in comparison to 3D sonic games requires manual aiming(Shadow can oneshot mancubi).
Four characters to choose from: Sonic, Shadow, Amy and classic Sonic. Shadow seem like the most complete character to use while classic Sonic doesn't have a working analogue to wall jumping all the other characters have. Despite that classic Sonic has the funniest weapon loadout to me - classic doom weapons that fire very very fast.
Feels junky and first-person platforming in Doom really doesn't work methinks. Still, i had fun with the few levels this TC has to offer.

I tried taking a look at FTL and the Multiverse-mod a while back, downloaded my (outdated) installer and installed the base game, then tried to install the Multiverse-mod, thinking that it would inform me whether I needed to upgrade or not.

"This installer requires that Java be instal-"

NOPE.AVI

Might as well have told me that autism is required to play the mod successfully.
Eh, Java is safe. You don't even have to install it, portable (zip) will do.

My brother was very unhappy about no longer being able to move sideways with L2 and R2 in the remaster. You have to hold R1 now. Which means that you can't move sideways while turning anymore. We went back to the PS1 version, but it kept freezing at a switch.

Get Tomb Raider 1 X, it fixes most of the issues you talk about and adds in controller support that works. Allegedly, I like the keyboard controls, so I didn't use one, but TR's issues with controllers/joysticks dates back pretty far and everyone else has mentioned how good the controller support is.

Quake 2 Enhanced Edition seems alright, I knew of the restored content brought up but there's also new enemy sounds that were never mentioned in the reviews. The enforcer now has two sounds it can make when alerted, and likewise the gladiator now has two potential death sounds. The lack of BethNet telemetry is great. It went to ridiculous lengths in Quake 1 EE.

There's some odd things also. The music tracks seem to loop a random number of times, before being replaced by a calmer ambient track. This often never loops, and after it ends you'll have silence. I also noticed that the music tracks fade out when you complete the level's final objective, but that's probably intentional. This is the first time I'm playing with the full soundtrack so I have no idea what's to be expected.

The berserker's leap attack is ridiculous. It doesn't do any damage anymore, but the leap seems to have no distance limitation. They can basically teleport next to you from any distance, and the leap is almost impossible to dodge. It's like it's hitscan. The parasite's attack also has an almost unlimited range. What the fuck?
I noticed that enemies like the berserker had attacks i didn't remembered from the og, i wonder if it's an EE thing or it was because i picked a higher difficulty setting

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
I'm playing a lot of Unicorn Overlord, and Troubleshooter, lately. To cleanse the palate a little bit, I mixed those up with Blacksad, and The Darkside Detective. Both average adventure games. The Darkside Detective is pretty simple, but its writing wears you down. There are a lot of jokes, and most of them not very funny. Blacksad is very inconsistent. There are good and bad parts. You're allowed to deduce stuff as a detective, the music is good, and sometimes, the writing is good. The bad parts of the game includes QTEs, characters that look hideous, and at points bad writing. They talk about the human race, but the world is filled with anthropomorphous characters. They bring up skin color at one point. Yet they also acknowledge that they are cats, goats, and so on.

I will need to find a couple of more short games to mix with the tactical ones. Maybe I should more seriously try to beat Ghostwire Tokyo.

Still playing Toee and getting ready to head for Emridy Meadows to get Terjon's amulet and the head of a Giant.
Course you have to kill it first. Finishing Welkwood should put my party at level 3, should be enough for Emridy Meadows if I play my cards right.
Then it's off to the MOATHOUSE, BABY!
One of the best and most skillfully designed dungeons in an RPG (taken straight from Gygax's module).

Replaying Arcanum many years later - it’s always nice to wait long enough to forget most of a game but still know the basic framework of how it works. Entered Black Mountain Mine as a gunslinger around level 14; on the third floor and several levels later I’m starting to feel worn down and hopeless. That optional pack of Brute Fangs was nuts, and thank God for trap detect scrolls. After mostly avoiding or taking combat slowly due to low cash/bullets before now, I’m starting to understand when I should be using the turn-based mode or not.

I remember hating it in the past, but now knowing it’s one of the few mandatory sections like it I don’t want the gauntlet to end..

On the internet, writing shit posts.
Beat Bloodstained. It is a really nice game, with a lot of neat little details and mechanics, indicating that the devs really cared about their game. The final boss is kind of a slog though as it's basically two bosses back to back, but as always getting good is the solution.

On to CnC Generals now. Does not work right of the box, had to fiddle with some files. GJ Steam.

Black Mountain Mine is notorious for its difficulty.
And sheer number of traps.
Since I assume you are a Tech character, build a Flow Specktrometer. It allows you to detect traps but it does require batteries (you can buy those from Inventor shops).

The berserker's leap and the ability to swing its hammer while running are an EE thing, as is the ability to dodge the parasite's attack. The brain also has a new attack now, enemy behaviour in general has been changed slightly.

I still don't like how Lara will often not jump, just like in the GOG version. He said it probably depends on which step she has taken. Don't remember that in Tomb Raider 2.

You're literally the only person who's ever complained about that. The problem's on your end.

The other guy already explained. It's different. Can't be certain, but it seems like trying to jump forward from a stationary position is more temperamental in the remaster than in the PlayStation version.

Didn't you complain somewhere else about this bug being in the classic versions? It never existed in those, not on PC anyway.

Yep, i think i am done with the space cats saga WAD. Went further in the first map of the third episode and it's a hot garbage. Will definitely be using those characters in some other map/wad but with this one in particular i am done.
Next on my list is a Pirate Doom. Yar!
gzdoom7FtUiUUO6b.png

This one definitely look better with dynamic lights on methinks.

Using GZDoom and that Fullscreen HUD mod again.
EDIT: Wrong thread. Wanted to post this in a screenshot thread.
Anyway, still wasting my time on various Doom and Quake maps.

Finished Grim Fandango. Liked most of it, except some obscure puzzles and the annoying screaming demon driver. Not on the top of my fav adventure games list though.

Also tried Tunic but couldn't get into it. For what seems to be a one man project it's a good game, but I've probably been spoiled by Hob which seems superior, better looking, more interactive and more polished. I'll probably give Tunic another chance later.
