IMO it will continue on the streamlining trend set by Skyrim. Oblivion did a lot of the dumbing down, while Skyrim was a streamlining from Oblivion, removing nerfed features.
There is nothing left to streamline

All they have to do is steal dark souls invasion idea, mixed with left 4 dead and multiplayer could be cool

That might take effort but it would be fun

Imagine you join someones game with a mage that knows an invisibility spell and just stalk a dude for an hour until hes weak then backstab him

Then the game would need a new system for handling death

There is as long as you are creative. I watched an interview with Todd where he basically said "instead of asking ourselves what can we add into the game, we first try to remove the stuff that is superfluous". It's surprising we still have weapon variety in Skyrim, when functionally all weapons are pretty much the same unless you install an overhaul like Requiem which makes blunt weapons particularly strong against armor and skeletons, for instance.

I think further streamlining would piss literally everyone off and have the game be reviewed negatively

As you said without mods it's literally as barebones as it gets

Weapons make very little difference

Never underestimate the power of reviewers. This IGN's Skyrim review second paragraph:

Part of what makes it so enjoyable has to do with how legacy Elder Scrolls clutter has been condensed and in some cases eliminated. In Skyrim, there's no more moon-hopping between hilltops with a maxed out Acrobatics skill. That's gone, so is Athletics. The Elder Scrolls V pares down the amount of skills and cuts out attributes like Endurance and Intelligence altogether. There's no time wasted on the character creation screen agonizing over which skills to assign as major. You don't assign major and minor skills at all, but instead pick one of ten races, each with a specific bonus.

If they dont blatantly steal from modders and the dark souls invasion system they are confirmed brainlets

The formula for success is right there

IMO it will continue on the streamlining trend set by Skyrim. Oblivion did a lot of the dumbing down, while Skyrim was a streamlining from Oblivion, removing nerfed features.

For instance:
  • Imperials vs Stormcloaks? Shitty main quest "choices" -> let's remove all main quest options.
  • A couple of dialogue checks here and there? Shitty implementation -> let's remove all dialogue checks.
And so on.
Except existence of any dialogue checks and any quest choices in Skyrim was already a reversal of dumbing down trends in Oblivion.

TES6 will have no skills or attributes, just perk trees for each of combat, magic and stealth. Fighting will give you combat xp etc. Once you have enough xp you can choose a new perk. Kids love perks in their RPGs!

If ES6 takes so much time, i bet it's because they feel their competitors are the other open-world juggernauts like GTA and Witcher 3.
I suspect they'll try and emulate those models in the storytelling department ; system-wise things are going the stay more or less the same, maybe more streamlined and action-oriented...

You dont think the wheel of fortune was a dialog check

Yea makes sense

I can definitely see new gameplay elements being added while maybe rpg elements are taken away

Like thieves can use a grappling hook

Maybe flying mounts, maybe mages can teleport short distances

Maybe more moves in combat, location based damage, weapons having increased effectiveness against certain enemies

All gameplay mechanics but not necessarily role playing

Honestly I'd be OK if TES6 leaned into the immersive sim gameplay that Todd seems to want. If they have to remove skills to create an open world Thief/UU then that sounds OK. It's not like they've done anything interesting with their RPG systems lately.

Expect the worst from the current Bethesda. I just hope they make something that is salvageable by mods. And if they don't at least make a half-decent RPG framework for TESVI, it will neither be possible for modders to fix or enrich it, nor will they attract those kinds of modders who would want to do that in the first place.

People that say Beth games can't get worse are setting themselves up for disappointment.
For every good idea Beth has they not only botch it's implementation but also have 5 bad ones.
These are the same people that still can't do ladders in their games and have been using the same engine for almost 20 fucking years now.
