Do you think the reception of the game could have been different if it were released on PC exclusively?

I mean, a cheap Diablo MMO like.

Blizzard forums:love:

Do you all realize how toxic in general you are being? These people worked so hard on all of this! You don’t like it? Okay! But do you really need to be so mean and downright nasty?

They said a few months ago that there wouldn’t be a D4 reveal at Blizzcon. They said there was still a few more reveals that weren’t happening at Blizzcon but later. Just because most of you didn’t or don’t care to remember that, doesn’t mean you get to be toxic and rude!!!

These are people, they work so very hard at what they do. Lots of companies are doing mobile games in between larger entities of the game. Just like ES:Blades and then ES:6 later. Just like Final Fantasy for mobile.

If you don’t like it then don’t play it, but do you really need to hurt their feelings just because you were let down?

The word toxic has pretty lost its meaning at this point and it's just used whenever valid criticism is made.

There's no doubt there is people working at their best on the game. Thing is, is all Blizzard's responsability to present their product correctly to the audience. And they didn't. They did a so poorly job at it that they have killed the game prior release. It's the same shit Nintendo did with that Metroid prime spin off for 3DS. They should have announced something else with it, like an expansion for Diablo III (Maybe is a bit later for that) or even Diablo IV. And the overall reception would have been less rough and more warm.

That's also a strangely tiny UI for the console version meant to be played on a huge TV. Good for monitor play, though.

Rumor: Blizzard was going to announce Diablo 4 at BlizzCon but cancelled at the last minute

BlizzCon's opening ceremony was meant to end much differently than it did.

The announcement of Diablo Immortal at BlizzCon went about as badly as it could have. The reveal of a mobile game rather than a full-on Diablo 4 led to a "huge backlash" at what is traditionally a two-day celebration of all things Blizzard. According to a Kotaku report, however, the reaction to Diablo Immortal's announcement could've been very different, as the site says that Blizzard planned to confirm Diablo 4 is in development but bailed on the reveal before last Friday.

Two sources familiar with the situation told the site that the original plan had been to announce Diablo Immortal, and then end with a video in which co-founder Allen Adham would confirm that Diablo 4 is in the works, but not yet ready to show. The move sounds like it would have been very similar to Bethesda's Elder Scrolls 6 announcement at E3, an entirely insubstantial statement of the obvious that nonetheless had fans in a much happier frenzy.

But for reasons unknown, the plan changed a couple of weeks prior to BlizzCon, and the Diablo 4 reveal was scrapped. One of Kotaku's sources said that Blizzard decided it wasn't ready to commit to the announcement because development is still in a state of flux, and the game may continue to change as it progresses.

That in itself doesn't really explain why Blizzard would decide to pull the plug on the reveal, though. It's not as though Diablo needs to be explained at this point—like The Elder Scrolls games, each new iteration is changed but the core experience remains essentially the same. That's how Bethesda was able to draw roaring applause by simply splashing four words onto a big screen at E3, and Blizzard could easily have done the same thing: Tell the audience, "One more thing," smash a Diablo 4 logo on the screen, "Thank you! Goodnight!"

I've reached out to Blizzard for more information and will update if I receive a reply.

That's funny.

Smells like damage control more than anything else. It's like "Oh, you didn't liked the reveal of a crappy Diablo mobile game? Well, we won't reveal the game you actually wanted".

Piss off, Blizzard.

Grab the Codex by the pussy
We always knew that nerds would rule the world one day, but we had no way of knowing that it would take the form of 13-year-olds running up thousands of dollars' worth of microtransactions on Dad's credit card for Smurfberries and Barbarian axe-polish.

Dunno if I buy that, they would have had all the fanboys weeping with joy and diverted all the Diablo mobile rage if they announced that, I mean what do they lose by dropping the logo bomb like Bethesda? You make no commitment to a release date.

Unless they truly are so disconnected they thought people would be excited by the mobile game, but as cynical as I am I find hard to believe even blizz execs are that stupid.

Blizzard doesn't give a fuck about the "core" audience, which has been steadily casualfied since Diablo 3 came to consoles.

Regardless of the backlash from the surprisingly vocal mouth breathers, Blizzard knows this garbage is going to make them shit tons of money considering many other companies (Sony comes to mind) have their all time best sellers as mobile games that came out within the last decade, and we're going to see this more and more. Fucking pathetic considering most of the sales are from children with mommy's card and whales.
