I still don't get why the first game had such a cult following.

It was a bland Stephen King novel with boring combat.
I liked the music and setting. Everything else was garbage.

I still don't get why the first game had such a cult following.

It was a bland Stephen King novel with boring combat.
Kinda cool atmosphere, even if cheesy. The best I can compare it to is the 90s in feel, Twin Peaks and X-files, set in a rural town in the north, surrounded by pine forest. I'm really soft for that setting.

Same case as Beyond Good and Evil - potential greater than current state.

Alan Wake had a lot of remnants of the old open-world game concept (that is, one that truly suited King), even though it was completely linear. It's like when you look at a game that isn't there and you think you're playing it.

The soundtrack was p. fucking rad.



The game itself was OK, good for one playthrough. Dont think it had much competition at the time it came out, as was already pointed out.

TBH I would have liked it more if it had more investigative/interaction elements, since the setting was really asking for that type of thing - the Twin Peaks/X-Files vibe was p. stronk.

Seems to be a running issue with them. Their games have these great settings, but they stumble executing them.

Yep, there's very few games that even remotely get close to replicating the Twin Peaks vibes, and Alan Wake sorta did that at the time. Alan Wake 2 improved upon it.

Tons of people are just dumb and easily impressed by the illusion of artistic depth by pretentious third-rate hacks and self-important idiots.

Alan Wake and Beyond Good and Evil share clunky, but still functional gameplay. First game is a shooter and the second is a Rayman variant.

The gameplay of Death Stranding turned me off from this game. I find no pleasure in uncomfortable traversing a monotonous world.

I have completed Alan Wake 2 and it should have been a movie and not a game. There should be a distinction between movies and games and remedy stopped making games after maxpayne 2. Game hardly has gameplay and boss fights are so stupid i needed to turn on the light to defeat the so called Scratch who wasnt scratch but it is alan wake. So alan wake screwed himself in this game and screwed me too with his stupid ramblings. Totally wasted of my time.

I wasn't even aware that Annapurna was owned by a female lesbian. She is also the daughter of Oracle co-founder and the ninth wealthiest person in the world (according to Bloomberg's Billionaire Index), Larry Ellison.
