I am not a game dev studio owner, however my wild guess would be is that they work for peanuts.

Larian games are only for combatfags anyway, their writing is atrocious.
Only played the two Original Sin games, but the only times their writing isnt physically painfull is when they hire guest writers. Namely Fane was mostly written by Avellone and he is the only character that has decent dialogue.

Has anyone any news on what guest writers they got this time? Or is it solely done by their talentless inhouse team?

Why would you disparage people who like combat? Especially on an RPG forum... If all you care about is story then why even play an RPG? There are thousands of visual novels and adventure games that are all about dialogue. It makes sense for some people to hate storyfags because it is so unnecessary. But hate combat and you are playing the wrong genre.

I think WOTC was actually trying with the 5th edition to go back to the first and second edition halfling design but then decided to hire only the worst artists possible. Halflings in both 3/4 edition Halflings looked more like generic small humans instead of AD&D's which looked like hobbits they are based on. Examples:

I remember enjoying Divinity 2 (TDKS)'s writing, there was still a bit of lolrandum horseshit but a lot of the humor worked for me, and the characters and plot were fine.
I was very surprised at how bad D:OS's writing was after playing TDKS.

Won't find good combat in them either. Maybe it's just very well hidden behind the gimmicky battle system, armor system, and limited cool down spells.
