I expected this to be a remake of the initial WoW with new textures etc. But apparently it's only servers that will run "classic" versions? FFS aren't people extremely bored of WoW anyway by now??

they are bored because wow turned into shit, I haven't played wow since 2010 wotlk because i couldn't take the dumbing down back then

Tbh I only played the initial release because I was a Warcraft fan, back then. I got bored of the endless grind when I reached level 55-56 or something and stopped playing.
So I have no idea what happened afterwards but I've always been amazed how this grindfest kept people busy for 15 years now

AFAIK there is no grind today, you can get level 100 in 1 day, it's pretty much casual

There really isn't any grind to max level in vanilla either, depending on how many dungeons you do. If you do every dungeon once, because why wouldn't you, and get every quest for it, you won't run out of quests until 60. That's assuming you do the quests semi-optimally, not run around like a headless chicken doing random stuff.

Yeah the problem is that most quests were grindy anyway. Either fetch 20 of these items or kill x mobs or sth of the sort.
I guess some people just like to do stuff like that, it just got boring for me eventually

There's also the problem that vanilla doesn't really get over the grindy quests. There are very, very, very few quests that aren't like that even at max level. I know it's not easy for every quest to be interesting and not about killing 6 bears or whatever, but it wouldn't have killed them to make at least 30% of them not a grindfest. As it stands now, you are practically doing what you were doing in Everquest - killing mobs over and over, the difference is only the framing, the ability of everyone to solo and the clearer goal. I can't overstate the importance of the clearer goal, though, that's what separated EQ and WoW and that's why people migrated to it, even though EQ is a better RPG.

There are only 2 things I'd wish for classic, half-heartedly:

1) improved class balancing, knowing that the devs did for the most part a good job in that regard during legion. I'm VERY certain that either they won't do that, OR that they will and fuck things up.

2) current-day engine, just like how in grim fandango for example you can turn on/off old graphics with a simple switch. Especially now that it's p. much confirmed that orcs will have straight back postures next expansion.

Interested if they will touch anything about classes. The reveal mentioned they will "fix bugs", but some of them had pretty big effects on balance, stuff like warrior/feral charges being slowed down/outright missing duo to MS slows, rogue vanish bugs, combat dropping etc.

I've no idea. I just want to roll a hunter and do actually competitive dps in 5mans/pugs.

You won't outdps mages, rogues, warlocks and even warriors as anything, so don't hold your breath. Making everyone do close to the same dps will make the raids even easier lololol.

You don't even need to run all the dungeons. The last few times I leveled 1-60 I only ran deadmines, stockades, and BRD. Of course, I was leveling leatherworking at the same time so I probably spent a lot of time grinding for leather. The grind to 300 in particular takes a few hours.

I honestly don't know if I have it in me to make another devilsaur set, because goddamn that takes a lot of mats. I might just roll a fucking mage this time or something.

Marks was the only good DPS spec in Vanilla even all the way up to 1.12 and it's relatively slow/clunky rotation was more suited towards raids. I suppose in five mans it doesn't really matter because there's no such thing as 'competitive dps' in a five man. There were no Mythic+++++ dungeons back then so, unless they change that, none of the five mans were particularly grueling as far as damage checks go. That said, Hunters with a decent amount of points in Survival -- albeit sacrificing damage -- provided CC/utility. Not as much as a mage, warlock, or rogue, though.

There was a demand for it and Blizzard realized they could capitalize on that instead of pretending it's too hard to do even as they shut down vanilla private servers.

Also, grammarly wants to autocorrect your name to "Jimmies". :M

I'm interested how they are going to handle all the other expansions. I'd do it like this -> have vanilla run its course then progress it to TBC (then go through the expansions), opening a new vanilla server in its place. If they do it like that, I imagine it overshadowing retail at one point, maybe around the middle of TBC or at the start of WotLK. It's not like it's unprecedented, classic Runescape is the template for that kind of thing. It HAS to progress, though, it gives meaning to the whole experience, perpetually sticking to vanilla will devalue it because there are no stakes at place. This might set up other MMOs doing the same, like a relaunch of Guild Wars 1.

10 years too late, but they have to milk that cash cow somehow, since they have no capable developers left since like 10 years ago.

Vanilla gameplay

In Vanilla you actualy level up your abilities like in Elder Scrolls, didn't know about that (weapons by fighting, tailoring by crafting things etc), it was already gone in TBC ! so TBC already was declining

oh wow you can actualy miss an attack, something that wasn't even in TBC when you learned the max weapon skill automaticaly.

Looks like they had a great RPG back then, how did they fuck it up so bad ?

What are you even talking about? Is that sarcasm? You had weapon skills, leveling professions by crafting and misses in TBC.

but you learned max skills automaticaly at a trainer and not by fighting and crafting, the actual gameplay (like in elder scrolls)

They removed ranked abilities and weapon skills in cata and trainers altogether in pandaria (I believe, I quit during cata).

I thought the biggest issue was the contrast between vanilla wow and current wow would highlight the massive decline?

it will, that is why the current wow players are so salty.

This might be a slow preparation for the future to discontinue the 'current' wow becuase it is a too big mess, it will be slowly dying and they will be shifting team and resources into the 'classic' wow to make new content.

One thing that would be awesome with that is if they completely scrapped the "new" Draenei and introduced the original rundown and decrepit ones as a playable race like some photoshopped pictures of character select showed before their expack was released.

Seeing what they'd turned the Draenei into made me all the more thankful I'd quit after a brief return during BC.

And fuck, tried looking for the picture of an original Draenei at char select, didn't find shit, so turned off my search filters and it became all Draenei porn.... :argh:
