I liked the part with the mission that has a self-driving car then you actually get the self-driving car but it can't drive you around because the game's AI isn't capable of doing that
quality

1970: we'll have self-driving cars any day now!
2020: we don't even have self-driving cars in video games
L. A. Noire is the closest we got and that's just fast travel.

Maybe we should have gotten self striding Silt Striders in Morrowind!

CDProjektRed actually has good writers, which leads to interesting quests and characters.
It was okay by vidya standards but in no way did compenstate for there being just one quest that did anything halfway interesting gameplay wise while the rest were your usual mix of "clear outpost" and "press button to continue the cutscene"

Watchdogs did it but you can't command your car to drive fast.

Name me an instance in a game where you can't boil down the decisions and outcome like that.
Witcher 3 was my base of comparison as I was playing CP77.

C&C there is broken into short- and long-term, and consequences are often not immediate or foreseeable, nor does the player always realize there will be more than immediate consequences. You name me examples of the above in Cyberpunk, because I honestly can't think of any.

For the most part Cyberpunk feels like a poor man's Witcher 3 with regards to C&C. Very few branches, very poorly disguised illusion of choice where branches converge back almost immediately.

Knowing this game comes, if not from the same quest designers, from designers working under the same direction so as to emulate the approach of the hugely successful Witcher 3, makes me think the lack of development time was so severe that many secondary and critical path quests shipped with just the main branch ready. The rest having been cut after the January 2020 postponement of the release. Speculation, sure, but next to Witcher 3, Cyberpunk simply looks unfinished in the C&C department and in the quantity of side quests.

never played this, but I watched that recent stream they did where you could play a drinking game out of how many times they said "in the anime". And they had some Dev's on there spending like 20 minutes looking at a wardrobe and taking a photo of an ugly cat? Then Keanu appeared for 30 seconds and said some punchline at the camera.

So I take it development on this live service game is going well.

If you're even slightly interested in modding, I'd recommend joining the Discord and just scrolling through the showcases and releases. Here's some I thought were worth sharing. People are still figuring out what they can do with the new greatly expanded mod tools.

apperently c77 has pretty good modding discord focused on tools creation etc.
There is active work on various editors: map, scripts, animations etc.

So, any mods that add more prostitutes? :bounce: In original game there was only one ukrainian blyad and a niggerfaggot.

Honestly i might even replay this game with mods someday. Would be nice to have some kind of freeplay mod with factions to join like in Stalker.

This looks handy. Especially when most of the clothing being sold in the game looks like it was stolen from traveling circus.

Isn't it great that everything is being moved to the Tencent funded walled garden known as Discord? Oh boy, I sure hate decentralized Internet, free speech and consumer rights! Reddit was already a terrible idea, but let's make it worse!

I'm pretty sure there was a game where you could call a taxi and you'd actually ride it to the destination, don't remember if it was some GTA or maybe Saints Row.
Or maybe I just made it the fuck up in my old addled mind.

Here let me fix that typo for you.
haven't played it, but wasn't Cyberpunk's narrative/characters its strongest component?
No, its visuals are, the writing is its second strongest aspect. The problem is that people often don't distinguish between writing (plot, themes, characters, setting) and narrative design (quest structure, player agency etc.) - Cyberpunk 2077 generally features good writing and poor narrative design.

I disagree. There are few bits that could use some work but overall it is pretty amazing story with huge ups and downs. They did 10/10 on characters and there is proper art involved in creation various scenes. Like the one with Johny in pacifica after vodooboys gangbanging where you chill out on patio chairs which plays huge role in how you as player view Johny, that is not just good writting but work of art. Or that scene in one of endings when characters breathes in and out which feels extra special when you finish it as a nomad.

The weakest part of C77 is not in its story but just lack of content compared to The Witcher 3. Where Whicher 3 was this 200h bahemoth rivaling BG2 with its expansions out of nowhere you can play for weeks and everyone could find something he liked from crapton of quality quests, C77 is just smaller game and due to that it is much harder to find moments that "hit". So if it hits you then it hits hard but you can just be other person who didn't find his quest and thus overall experience with game will be far lower.

The fact that almost every mission can be done in complete stealth, not killing anyone etc. had its price and imo that is why quest content couldn't reach TW3 levels.

I wonder how much content will bring its expansion. From trailer it looks more like Hearts of Stone romp than Blood and Wine. As much as i liked HoS imo C77 needs much more B&W like expansion since gameplay is now important component of game.

I don't follow the disagreement, I said the writing is generally good, it's the narrative design that falls short. Think of it this way, if it could be just as well represented in a film or a novel, it's writing, narrative design is the videogame characteristic of managing player involvement with content, agency and progression. CBP does have some decent narrative design along the main plot thread, and its finale is excellent in this regard, but the rest of the game is very linear and superficial, featuring sporadic options with limited scope of outcome and riddled with faux choices, those yellow dialogue lines that serve no purpose but immediate roleplaying, if that.

Just think of the events in the first chapter, The Heist and its connected material. They form a cool story with interesting characters and developments, and you'd probably have a good time watching it in the cinema, but the narrative design is sublime in absence. The game bombards you with yellow dialogue lines that don't matter for shit, and the only real choices you have are dealing with the Militech lady, which opens up more options for Royce, and what you do with Jackie's body, which gives you some waffle either at the funeral or with Mikoshi. Oh, and you can later get a combat dildo from the boss lady. It's slim pickings with player agency and I still can't believe they didn't do anything with Evelyn's offer, that was criminally underutilised.

GTA V has that, but you can also skip straight to the destination once you start the ride.

Maybe it has nothing with your age and more with you reading leaks before release and immersing yourself in communities whose sole purpose is to shit on everything and everyone. Just a thought.
But I've not read any leaks about anything and I'm one of the more wellspoken personalities around. Yeah, it's not my age. It's about the game not being any good.

But yeah, I can't get anything out of an ordinary FPS. It just doesn't work. So, yeah...

Anyways, whoever likes it let it be good. So...
